Quote of the day
No, it's not George W. Bush, trying to channel Roosevelt but falling way short when he said: "We'll get through this deal." But Cheney's sock puppet is the source.
It was this, from New York Times: (belatedly, link corrected, but the quote was the thing)
Now, as he spends his last months in office trying to avert a global economic collapse, Mr. Bush has been telling people privately that it’s a good thing he’s in charge.
“He said that if it was going to happen at all, he was glad it was happening under his presidency, because he had a good group of people in D.C. working for him,” Dru Van Steenberg, one of several small-business owners who met with Mr. Bush in San Antonio earlier this week.
The only thing we have to fear is the fear that he'll be in charge much longer.

I try to be hopeful....I really do. But a quick look backwards at how well Bush has handled everything that ran across his desk tells me it might be time to stuff towels under the garage door, get some drying hose for my tailpipe and avoid the rush off this planet.
Your money is safe! George W. Bush is in charge! Kill me now!
But as equally disturbing is a click on my blue name. Asa Hutchinson has been named to a 3 person Blackwater panel to ENSURE they follow US export laws. Exporting torture? The old Penny Stock king just opened another new law office and now he's a Blackwater insider......Kill me now! Though I can't really name anything Asa's been a success at, he doesn't have Bush's list of absolute failures, he just doesn't have much of a list at all.
He couldn't convict 18 backwoods sedition-ists, he failed to impeach Bill Clinton, he failed at most political races he ran in, his accomplishments at Homeland Security would fill a thimble. And his record since leaving the Bush administration is.......what? Some talk, no action, no success. But now he sits on a panel of the scariest company on earth. WTF?

scariest company on earth. WTF?<<
It would be safe to assume that a loser like Hutchinson
picks another losing proposition, like water following salt.
I think one of the emblems of Neo Con Empire is soon to be
eliminated. As I advised all AT Porkers to get on the gold
I would say get rid of Blackwater investments.
They may find enough frightened corporate chieftains
to keep them employed but it's doubtful. The Arabs and
Haliburtons may need some help to keep everyday Muslims
from slitting their throats but it won't be the bonfire BW
has previously enjoyed.

While MAX IS FIXING THE LINK, the best commentary I found today in the NYT was
GAIL COLLINS, actually in yesterday's issue but usu read it on Sat and Sun.
Gail does this:
"I miss the good old days. Remember when the presidential campaign was all about oil drilling? That sure was fun.
I miss August. August was neat. The Dow was over 10,000 and nobody had ever heard of Sarah Palin. .............
During that last debate, while he was wandering around the stage, you almost expected to hear him start muttering: "We wants it. We needs it. Must have the precious."
Remember when McCain's campaign ads were all about his being a prisoner of war? I really miss them.
Now they're all about the Evil That Is Obama. The newest one, "Ambition," has a woman, speaking in one of those sinister semiwhispers, saying: "When convenient, he worked with terrorist Bill Ayers. When discovered, he lied." Then suddenly, with no warning whatsoever, she starts ranting about Congressional liberals and risky subprime loans. Then John McCain pops up to say he approved it."

History is a wonderful thing. It reminds you when you make the same mistake again. And this one is for you Ark Red, for your notebook.
The following I think should be high value for historians. It's from a market fundamentalist-a breed we won't see for a long time, unless Americans become more stupid than they have been recently.

A Stock Market Vote of Confidence for Bush
By Lawrence Kudlow
....
Early last week, when the Democratic leadership of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi launched their latest antiwar offensive, stocks dropped about 150 points. Then, in a press conference a few days later, after Bush discussed clear successes in Iraq's Anbar province, the Dow Jones soared nearly 300 points, marching ever closer to the 14,000-point plateau.
Of course, shares trade on the profit and interest-rate fundamentals of the economy. But if you ask folks on Wall Street what their biggest worry is, most will say it's another 9-11. They rank another attack far ahead of passing sub-prime mortgage problems or wiggles in consumer spending.
The stock market, in fact, is voting for the president to stay on offense. Here's a case in point. The highest-ranking Iraqi leader of al-Qaida in Iraq was just arrested, after which he told interrogators that Osama bin Laden's inner circle enjoys considerable influence over the Iraqi al-Qaida branch. ...
And Wall Street connected the dots, too: That day, the Dow had been down 150 points. But it rallied back 100 points after the Iraqi capture came across the tape.
This brings me to a larger point. Despite the criticism President Bush has received over his Iraq War policies, isn't it interesting that stock markets have been booming since early 2003, when Saddam was overthrown and the president signed his supply-side tax cuts into law? (Bush, of course, never gets any credit on either of these points.)
The entire fantasy-story on bluename

WE ARE ENTERING THE LAST ONE HUNDRED DAYS OF GEORGE W. BUSH'S PRESIDENCY!
Surely nothing worse can happen in the next 100 that he hasn't already done to us. Surely. Please?

Quit calling us Surely! And while we like to think we'll only get cancer OR heart disease, not both at the same time...there is nothing to indicate that the worse isn't yet to come. Think about this....Cheney-Bush started their evil on the first day in office, knowing if they got caught they'd have many months and years to be the targets of anything and everything.
With only 90 something days to go....they may very well be preparing lovely parting shots so awful and shocking they'll knock the tampons out of our teenagers. Why be good now? Why act better when you're losing then you did while winning? They've given us the finger for 8 years, why not carry thru with the threat on the way out the door? I can picture Cheney throwing a lighted lantern thru the front door of the while house as he walks toward the Lear Jet on his way to Dubai. Or worse.....push the big red button as he closes his Samsonite and melt Iran into the sea.
After all, they took no responsibility for the disasters they created while in office, we'll get no dead-bed confessions out of them when they're out of office. And someone needs to watch that crumbling copy of the Constitution on display at the National Archives....bet before January 20th, 2009 someone will catch Cheney squatting on top of the open case with his pants around his ankles. Shitting on it one last time for old times sake. Never again! Never ever ever again!
