The rallying continues

The Democratic Party has announced that Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson will join Sen. Mark Pryor and his dad, David Pryor, the Party chairman, in a round of political appearances around Arkansas this week. Pryor probably can get along against his Green opposition well enough, but they'll all be touting the Obama-Biden ticket, too.

ON THE JUMP, TOO: Dennis "What we need is another 9/11" Milligan pouts about the Dems having an attractive pair like Mary and Ted to campaign for them.

DENNIS MILLIGAN, GOP STATE CHAIR, SAYS

Mary Steenburgen may have Arkansas roots, but in no way is her ultra-liberal ideology representative of the Arkansas voters she and her husband, Ted Danson, are attempting to court this week.  We have yet to see Senator Obama himself come to Arkansas to ask for support; instead, he continues to send surrogates who fall far short of their assignment.

Arkansas is a conservative state.  We care about protecting our country, our families, and our pocketbooks.  Sen. McCain’s policies of tax relief, strong support for small business, and protection of our family values are right for Arkansas, and right for America.

Walked by Pryor's house today with the dogs and still no Obama sign is his yard. What a surprise!

So when is Mary going to run for the US Senate from Arkansas? 2010? I hope so.

I recently heard Mark Pryor speak in NWArk and he was touting Obama then. I'm impressed, since that is "lion country" for democrats. Regardless, I am glad we are seeing some rallies here in Ark. Nationally the mood of the majority of the country has picked up, sensing an Obama victory and many Arkansans are wanting to be a part of it. Look forward to Jan 09.

Not counting on it, but HOPING for a "bandwagon effect" for Obama: many voters wanting to be on the winning side.

The stronger the polls look this weekend--and especially Monday, the greater the likelihood of such a response.

Apologies for double post.

Computer rejected first effort. Then posted both when I tried again.

"Not my fault."

I've had occasion to drive thru the "whiter" portions of Fort Baptist the last couple of weeks and while most signs in the yards around here are advertising the crew putting their roof on (damn that hail storm) there are a few McCain-Palin signs. Now and then an Obama sign, but keep in mind this is the "whiter" more well off part of the Fort.

Makes me wonder how these people can still be so supportive of the party that's done us all so wrong? Is it racism? Are they some kind of insulated from the news of the last 8 years? Are they some kind of special people who haven't been hurt by the financial melt-down? Do they have advanced information that the fix is in and only people displaying McCain yard signs now will benefit in the years ahead? Did their preacher threaten them with eternal damnation if they don't vote straight Republican in this election? How do they figure it? And why out yourself as an idiot by putting up a sign for the bad guys?

Over here in the cheap seats it's all Obama, though city-wide there just aren't many signs out this time. As you edge up the financial ladder as you leave my neighborhood and creep up 10 or 15 thousand a year, the McCain signs start popping up. It just makes me giggle when I see a worn out 50s house with 2 or 3 beater cars in the front yard and a McCain sign too. What part of Republican success do they think belongs to them? Obviously they aren't sitting on the board of Halliburton. Obviously that trickle down isn't trickling down on them. So maybe their wishing forward or something. Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush-Cheney didn't help them a damn bit...but maybe if they keep hoping McCain-Palin will finally reward them for keeping the faith thru so many bad Presidents.

I say shit in one hand and hope in the other and see which one fills up first! I think some people are just plain ignorant and crazy. This election is going to be like the watershed elections of the past. Imagine telling your grandchildren, Oh yeah honey....I voted against Abe Lincoln cause I was afraid slaves would move into my neighborhood if he won. Or imagine telling them, I was a Hoover man because I loved buying cheap apples on the corner from my former banker.

Telling your grandchildren someday in the future that you were McCain-Palin all the way will not make yer Christmas dinner very enjoyable. The grands will gather off in the corner and wonder what kind of creep you were back in 2008. They'll be a little less happy to be related to you. You might only get white socks the next time Christmas rolls around.

Think man! Do you really want to be on the wrong side of the tide of history just because you're stubborn as a mule, you poor misguided SOB? Vote Obama for the sake of Christmas! And Christmas future! Vote Obama for the kids........oh yes...for the kids.

DBI you make me smile. You're a big reason I enjoy this blog. Thanks

If I were going to blatantly stereotype your observation, it would appear you are implying the achievers (or the moneymakers) have McCain/Palin signs and the poor (or welfare/govmt handout dependant class) have Obama/Biden signs? Is that what you are saying?

Let's face it.

The more you are concerned with financial success, the more likely you are to vote Republican.
The more money you are born with, the more likely you are to vote Republican.
The more money you inherit, the more likely you are to vote Republican.

If you think it's fair that workers live in poverty while their employers are millionares, then you are going to vote Republican.

We don't need redistribution of wealth through taxes.
We need a fair distribution of wealth through wages.

If companies choose profits over fair wages, then they deserve to be taxed more. Why should taxpayers (including many businesses) have to subsidize the workers of corporations that do not pay a fair wage?

DBI, I wonder the same thing about folks here in my small town "outing" themselves as idiots by displaying a McCain/Palin sign. To say nothing of how pissed I am about getting three of my Obama signs stolen right out of my front yard.
But, good news from my small town. The old, stately homes in our historic district are all owned and occupied by people with old money, mostly elderly millionaires. I noticed today that out of the approximately 90 houses, there are only 12 campaign signs, but eight are Obama signs!
And we have heavy early turnout, which is great!
While encouraging, I think McCain will win Arkansas.

eark's post pretty much sums it up, but what I was trying to point out is it isn't a surprise to me that Fort Baptist's old mossback millionaires have a McCain sign here and there, but it is surprising when lower, lowest middle class folks have a McCain sign. I'm not sure what our "Pioneer" class Republicans got or get from Cheney-Bush, but I know what the poor Republicans got....screwed like the rest of us! And yet some of them continue to support folks who wouldn't spit on them if their heads were ablaze.

When my kids have nothing, your kids will have nothing too, Don. The Cheney's will all be in Dubai, but we'll be sitting here watching America crumble around us. We were in pretty good shape January 20th, 2001 when Cheney-Bush took over. It's been a steep slide/race downhill ever since, for all of us except the filthy rich. Who wants 4 more years of that? There's a bottom down there and if we keep heading south we're gonna find it. We'll be looking up to Mexico in a few more years. Cheney-Bush have been criminal, but more importantly, they've been dead wrong at every turn. My Dish TV still works, but not much else.

My long time mechanic went out of business during the gas crisis. 20 years and now I have no idea where to take my cars. They sold gas and they just said screw it! I watched Ma get worse care than my dogs used to get. She supposedly died of a urinary tract infection though Google says that's impossible. Our coroner called me at home to ask me why she died. Is this FK'ing America? Now I'm selling everything of value to try and raise $8000 to pay her hyper-inflated funeral bill before they take my house.

Did you know the simplest grave side funeral with the cheapest of everything costs 8000 dollars cash on the barrel head, no payment plan at all? It does in Fort Baptist at Edwards-Fentress. How in the hell do the truly poor get rid of their dead? Unless you got some cash squirreled away, if you find your parents dead....better dump them in the landfill quick. Is this FK'ing America?

If you think you got screwed filling your gas tank this year.....wait a couple of weeks until your furnace is going full blast. Half of us may be frozen stiff by the time Obama takes the oath in January. For this I walked to school for 10 years before I drove myself another 4? For this my wife and I have devoted nearly every minute of the last 22 years to being the best parents on earth?

All those years growing up, I just expected a better country than we wound up with. I didn't expect heaven, I just didn't think I'd feel screwed all the time at every turn...and more than feel....BE screwed at every turn.

Did the Devil do this to us? Did radical Muslims do this to us? Meth addicts? NO! It's our white Christian flag-lapel-pin-wearing government and Big Business who joined together to box us up and bleed us dry. Why fear foreign invaders when the American Taliban is hard at work making life so hard and miserable death doesn't seem such a bad thing. It's not all the Republican's fault, but by god they're to blame enough that no one should vote for one for the next generation.

AMEN DBI!
