Vote suppression update
A handy account here on Talking Points Memo of the efforts by Republicans to purge new voters and otherwise suppress votes in battleground states. Funny how busy the GOP is in key electoral states. The good news is the successful pushback.

Yes, good news indeed. It only took 8 years for Demos to learn. And, one might add, a sharper than average Demo candidate who worked his way through the Chicago machine and trumped
two opponents with election qualification challenges.
This not a rich privileged, entitled fellow from Tenn or Mass with a well credentialed dad or a super rich wife. He can and will punch back.

Yea, that is really the hallmark problem that we face during this election---voter suppression. I guess the ACORN stuff is just electoral high jinks. There are so many investigations and convictions just relative to ACORN that to ignore voter fraud as the principal threat to this election and this democracy is irresponsible. The demos have done everything that they could to ensure that people who are either dead or not citizens of this country vote that I doubt if this republic will survive. I'm sure that my grandfather, my father and my buddies appreciate paying the kind of price that we paid to serve this country so that you people could so denigrate the principals on which this country was founded. Thanks for cheapening our democracy.

Dear Teach,

JD, I'm not your 'teach'. If I were I would be embarrassed that the only thing you could muster up in response to my point is 'duh, idiot'. Was that a major mental exertion for you? Nothing new here.

There's no way you'll convince me that your statement took any more mental exertion. Per capita, maybe...raw # of neurons, no.
Do you understand the difference between the official Republican party PURGING voters and a third party organization (ACORN--a friend at one point of McCain and Obama) REGISTERING nonexistent voters, e.g., Mickey Mouse?
There are two points I want to get across teach, and really, you should get this:
1. The official Republican party is behind the voter purges--not a third-party organization.
2. The Republican party is PURGING--getting rid of legitimate voters--vs. registering Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other nonexistent characters.
Question for Discussion (homework):
1) Which offense is more potent? The purging on thousands of voters who will not find out until election day, or the registering of nonexistent voters, who will never show up?

Individual such as the ACORN volunteer/employee who tried to register Mickey Mouse should be held accountable... So should George Bush Jr. for trying to stop as many as 200,000 votes at a time in Ohio.
Considering how Republicans act from the top down... it certainly makes one wonder just who put Mickey Mouse on an ACORN clipboard?

So you're the only one whose ancestors "paid a price," strangelove?
Mine did, too, and they included more than just men. Women pay a price during ALL wars, and it's often higher than the price men pay. They're the ones who have to carry on when their sons and husbands die; they're the ones who have to put things back together when the men return.
I had some twenty ancestors who were soldiers in the American Revolution. My father, his brother, my mother's brothers were all soldiers in World War II. Some of my revolutionary ancestors paid the ultimate price. They died in the war.
I'd like to think that they paid that price FOR democracy--for the right of EVERYONE in this nation to vote, to live lives marked by liberty and allowing the pursuit of happiness.
I'm appalled that you seem to think that those who served in our wars did so in order to keep others from enjoying liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and in order to exclude them from our democracy. What a horrible perversion of the values for which our revolutionary ancestors fought and, in many cases, died.

Yea, that makes sense. Men die so that we can pervert the election process by letting dead people and illegal aliens vote. That pretty much sums up the difference between you moonbats and all the rest of us.

And what say you of the PURGING of legitimate voters by the OFFICIAL Republican Party?
Nothing?
Oh right, that's why I never bother critiquing your posts (they're almost always thin on logic, and responding with logic won't induce you to use any anyhow).

OK, let's pretend all those fake voter registration names manage to get registered legitimately. With the exception of Micky Mouse of course. And maybe Dick Tracy. Who the heck is gonna show up to actually vote under all these fake names? Now THAT would be some super duper community organizing.

To the nuts (ha! see what I did there?) ranting about ACORN: Does the stupid hurt? I heard it burns. I hope so.
Long after many who were paying attention knew the truth, the media finally caught on. They found that ACORN followed the law. In certain states, ACORN was required to turn in every voter registration that was given to them, including Donald & Mickey's (and damn Disney for not allowing Minnie to vote). However, as a courtesy, ACORN flagged them before turning them in if they looked suspicious. THEY FOLLOWED THE LAW. My question is, who filled out the suspicious registrations? The party of dirty tricks (Hi Ashley Todd!)? Or the guys who followed the law? Why flag registrations if you were the one who did them?
Contrast that with the Republicans who hired companies to purge mostly black and Democratic voters in Florida and Ohio in 2004, both swing states by the way. Also contrast with what they are trying to do in (surprise, surprise) swing states now. Slight bump in the road for the shady Republicans who are trying to rob hundreds of thousands of voters of their right to vote: there are about 5,000 (and counting!) lawyers fighting to allow all registered voters to exercise their rights. Suck on that.
So, how will Mickey and Daffy and Donald vote? Unless you nuts shouting ACORN can explain that, I HOPE THE STUPID HURTS!! We don't need no water, let the stupid on them burn!
Please, stop the stupid. If not for yourself, do it for the children. Won't SOMEone think of the children!?

If you want to know how dead people vote you should check out the 1960 Presidential elections in Cook County, Illinois.

It doesn't matter how many convictions, suits or how many investigations of voter fraud you lefties are going to ignore it and pull out you microscopes and search for the minuscule 'voter suppression'. You just can't see the truth. It shouldn't be surprising to those of us who value the Constitution that there will always be an element of nuts who are willing to promote their agenda even at the expense of our country. You really don't care about the country because deep down inside you really hate it.

Well, if you are interested in local politics, cook county hasn't changed up to and including the present day. However, being a good demo that shouldn't bother you. The trouble with voter fraud you don't know about it till it is discovered and how are you going to discover it? I don't see any problem for the demos in the future. As long as the dead exist you guys should be able to win elections for now on out. I mean who is going to squeal when you guys run the election process?
The nice thing about the dead is that in each election one guy can vote multiple times and who is going to know. He can assume a multitude of identities. Life is good for the demos.

You got a lot of nerve bringing up the Jeb Bush - Katherine Harris tag team!
Overseas military ballots that were not legal, were counted because of massive pressure from the Bush campaign!
"They sent me a letter of apology, and I just laughed," recalled Williams, 34, who said she had planned to vote for Democratic nominee Al Gore. "I was cheated out of voting."

I've got a lot of nerve! Your party denies our warriors the right to vote because they vote republican and you think I have a lot of nerve. 'Where the sun don't shine, sweetheart'. They make it possible for some jerk like you to express his 'opinions' and you make fun of their being denied the right to vote because they voted for your opponent. They put it on the line and you think I have a lot of nerve? If they walked away today and left you sweethearts to your deserved fate I wouldn't blame them.

Stop the Stupid: Please tell me how a dead person can vote. Without ID, just...how? How can Underdog vote without ID?

Yeah, like ALL the military votes Republican. Suuure.
Maybe the top brass, who are mostly from wealthy families that paid for their college tuition so they could have higher rank and not have to do the grunt fighting, but the ones that actually FIGHT in the battles? Many of them vote Democratic.
In fact, I would think that those that are in the National Guard would have a high percentage that vote Democratic, especially the ones that WANT TO COME HOME after being stop lossed so many times. I can't imagine how horrible that must be to have to go back when your time is supposed to be up according to the "contract" you signed when you joined. That in itself shows just how little regard the Republicans have for the soldiers.
I'm always amazed at how the Repubs claim to "support the troops" when what they really mean is "keep them there so we can continue to rake in the money and our supporters will support us since we are 'at war protecting our freedoms''."

Yet you spit in their faces by NOT VOTING...because you won't vote for a war hero and can't vote for a black man.
