Hillary to State

Sounds like it. Sorry, Mo, Chris, etc. An angle with LR implications:

People close to the vetting said Mr. Clinton turned over the names of 208,000 donors to his foundation and library and agreed to all of the conditions requested by Mr. Obama’s transition team, including restrictions on his future paid speeches and role at his international foundation.

If Bill Clinton isn't traveling the globe to schmooze world leaders and financiers for contributions -- and he shouldn't if his wife becomes secretary of state -- it's hard to see how his foundation will continue to pull in $120 million a year, as it did last year. That has implications for a variety of worthy causes the foundation has supported, from HIV/AIDS relief to such smaller local things as the speaker series at the Clinton School for Public Service.

Larger issue: Barack Obama looks like a very big man here. If hard work is enough to reward him for the choice, he has nothing to worry about. Judgment? Diplomatic skills? Results? We shall have to wait and see.

ALSO: Cabinet to include Timothy Geithner, NY Federal Reserve officer, to Treasury. Bill Richardson at Commerce.

Again, it's the Clinton's style to complicate things.

>>Barack Obama looks like a very big man here.<<

A lot bigger than he looked when, as a candidate for the Democratic nomination, he hardly had a chance to win the general election!

If Obama draws heavily from the Senate ranks to staff various offices and positions, how will that affect the Democrats' ability to pass legislation Republicans may go apoplectic over? Are governors limited in terms of whom they can appoint to fill a vacant seat? It's been a long time since civics and poli/sci, but it seems to me that there are blessed few restrictions there.
And Bill Clinton muzzled? Past impressions lead me to believe it will be the death of him. Of course, it would have been much the same had Hillary gained the presidency, so I presume they've addressed all of this privately.

This does say one thing loud and clear. Hillary was never remotely sincere about health care.. or at least she is/was incapable of accomplishing a damn thing. Considering her latest meme on that issue was mandating american people purchase it like auto insurance, I am thrilled to see her voice removed from the issue. But it just says she is not a leader and she seems to be an opportunistic quitter.

A Dem NY Gov will replace Clinton with a Dem senator... I wish it would be someone like Spitzer myself.

Clintons neo liberal stance on foreign policy horrifies me! Seeing Barack place her at State undermines his credibility on war and other foreign policy issues a great deal. That said, the world community is absolutely fed up with us on just about everything from war policy to our disaster capitalism criminally unfettered financial industry. If Obama intends to keep Clinton on a short leash and they are both willing to CHANGE a lot of things (which I seriously doubt) then great things can happen for this country, the world, and their place in history books.

eLwood, exactly WHAT are you saying that the Clintons are doing to complicate things? Does their very existance bother you THAT much? Get over it! They're going to be around for a number of years yet, and I'm very comforted by that. I'm hoping that Chelsea will follow in her parents footsteps, and I'm looking forward to voting for her some day in the future.

No Rick C's "very existence" doesn't bother me from commenting on an old high school chum.

But it always gets complicated with the Clintons.

Just wait.

P.S. I voted for BC for Congressman - 3rd District, AG, gov and as prez.

Well, that just goes to show that if you aspire to be a Secretary of State you should first be a first lady. It is such good relevant training. If only Mamie Eisenhower had known.

While I think Hillary will be a fabulous Secretary of State, I'd rather she stay in the Senate and wait for a Supreme Court appointment...
But she will be a 100% improvement over Condi Rice.

An improvement over condi rice is saying nothing. condi rice was a joke. she was the author of the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza. We all know how that turned out. hillary will be another token who knows nothing about what she is doing. I would guess that bubba will be the real power behind that job. hillary and bubba will do what they do best---chaos.

Choice #1, follow in the shoes of Byrd, Helms and Stevens and be in power for life or
Choice #2 follow the career path of Mad. Albrignt

Seems clear.

Supreme Court? When Hell freezes over? Most candidates don't make it because someone hates their position on something. When Hillary, they just hate her.

I'd personally rather have Hillary in the Senate and in Harry Reid's job. But....I tell myself over and over...Barack Obama is smarter than I am. Plus he's up there where he's got a birds eye view of what's really going on, plus he knows about this people. We think we know them......but I'm sure we don't.

So my mantra is and shall be......Trust Barry......Trust Barry.......He's made very very few mistakes so far. If he's only half as good at being President as he was as a political candidate....we're talking BEST PRESIDENT EVER!
