Cooking at our place. And watching the horror in India. And waiting for a report from David Koon, who's attending the Huckabook signing at Barnes and Noble. I"ve put in a request for one of those Team Huck shirts (on display again earlier today in Fort Smith), but so far no hopeful lines of acquisition have presented themselves. (XXLT, guv.)

PS -- If you missed the guv tonight, you can still catch him in time for Christmas when he speaks at the Clinton School at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22.

UPDATE: Big crowd greeted the Huck in LR, as you'll see in David Koon's film. Stick around for a look inside the Huckabus, formerly Toby Keith's ride. The camera gets a little jumpy while David's doing the transaction to buy my Team Huck shirt. Mission accomplished. Brian Chilson photo below.

OCMS - COOL ES!!

I'm feeling a little down - 1st I too only scored 85% on the Civics Test; made a couple of right guesses, a couple of wrong and 2 more were I was just flat wrong...AND I agree that the test may be flawed - who gets to decide what goes in? Some were a bit obscure to me.

But the REAL problem is that - - - - -
zelda: it may be over for us, after so much 'compatico' for all this time!! mcbsmith's "gelatinous mush" would describe canned Cb sauce - YUK. If you bought that in MA someone would follow you to your car to make sure you were from out-of-state, else...well, you can imagine!! AND making the real thing is soooo simple...

re Survey: disappointed with the low red wine support; any white that stands up to GRAVY is a big, boisterous one!! Wish I could afford an actual Red Burgundy...a Pommard or Le Chambertin...sigh...

Other than that, this is the funnest "community" on the 'net, and HAPPIEST Thanksgiving to all = even chasv and the various StrangeLarge-s, Sev's & such!!!!!!!!!!!!
!

"Team Huckabee" t-shirts? I checked the link twice and didn't see any. (My remaining life is too short to waste by clicking the video link.) Still, I'm offended.

(ARK. BLOG: It's on the video link.)

The official first edition of the Team Silverback t-shirts, that say "Respect Your Elders" across the chest, lowland patriarch on the back, have all been given away, so maybe we need to start a new series.

My sainted mother taught me never to brag, but maybe within the warm embrace of Norma and my old classmate Jo Carson and all of my other dearest, dearest friends, I might do a clicky to prove that even us sixties can still keep up. And besides, our American Muhammad (or was he still Cassius?) taught us it ain't really bragging if you can really do it.

OK, I did click "all the above" in the last question of the Thanksgiving poll.

where does huckabee attend church?
.

I still have a tough time believing the avg. college grad scores 55% on that test. One glitch I noticed is the questions where I changed my answer only recorded the original answer.. not the change, which in my case was a change to a correct answer on three questions. So my 77% was not the correct score. Should probably be about the same as Larry.

Once again for your blogging pleasure is

..............................Civic Literacy Quiz............

on bluename then click "Take the Quz"

beware of question #33. The most logical choice is not the correct choice.

ES, I changed two responses and the changes were apparently recorded because I had the
correct answers.

eL - that would be the big Baptist Church on I430S that is bigger than Razorback Stadium.

Good to hear, eLwood. I took it a few days before you posted it here.. must have fixed it.

Here's a nice lil Holiday R&B song.. (clicky) James Hunter - Carina (With the legendary Allen Toussaint accompanying)

How about Lioneld "Landslide" Jordan winning the race for Mayor of Fayetteville? Wow!

Can anybody find a link to the 1975 hit by our Cate Brothers, "Hey, Hey, Mr. Union Man"?

Did I get the quote mark and question mark placed properly in the previous sentence? Well, Mayor Jordan may have some trouble with noun verb agreement (like my friends at the bar) and the subjunctive mode, but however he says it, it's from the heart. A man who always speaks from the heart.

I'd also like to insult that Heffrenam bastard or whatever is name is who wrote a LED for Coody. This alcoholic narcissistic (former, probably--I'd bet his dick don't work anymore) sexual predator (like almost all English professors) actually believes we need to preserve an aristocracy and Lioneld belongs in the servant class. Blow me, Professor Poet.

Can anybody find a link to the 1975 hit by our Cate Brothers, "Hey, Hey, Mr. Union Man"?

Click my name Whoscrumdown

Thanks ES. I was just looking for some music to take along to Grandma's tomorrow.

I've listened to "Mr. Union Man" when Ernie was so damn high [Bangladesh hash] his sly grin didn't go away for hours.
I've listened to it drunk, dry, wet, stoned, sad, joyus and while doing the nasties with young wimmin. It has that driving Southern rock beat that gets inside you, into strange places.

URK, a blogger over at Jonah and Jane Tebbetts have some good stuff going on with Mr.Union Man

see Iconoclast on my bluename.

related

of course to LIONELD JORDON's LANDSLIDE VICTORY in Fayetteville.

Glad you like it bugeyed. I post Late Late night music posts several times a week... you can follow a collection built up over over the past year .. and always growing, at my name.

One more real good song, imo.. I wish I had their email addy so I could send this song to Little Rockers, Ray McKinnon and Lisa Blount.. it sounds like something they would use in a soundtrack to me.

From the KATV website:

"A major development tonight in the Anne Pressly murder investigation. Little Police have called a 10pm press conference and police have named a suspect in the case: Curtis Lavell Vance of Marianna, Arkansas."

Having just returned from a pre-Thanksgiving soirée, I'm feeling grateful.

I'm thankful for my health, my fabulous life and family and friends, the glorious weather we're enjoying, the way we treat our homeless, our compassion for the thousands of our adoptive children, blah, blah, blah.

Mainly, I'm thankful for this blog . . . and that I can bump this important post to the top o' the heap so it doesn't scroll off into the oblivion of recipes, Civic Literacy Quizzes and sentimental music faves - much as I LOVE all those.

As a Family Association Reparative Therapist, I am all about restoring inter-familial communicative dynamics through dispassionate dissension.

"Holiday Healing" is a specialty technique. A time to reunite loved ones through love, food and discussion.

Because, surely, these are issues that precede Thanksgiving and will continue long after.

Hence I'm bumping this topic to this Open Line so you can bring it up tomorrow during your Thanksgiving family times and, perhaps, restore the joy and harmony which may have grown tenuous in years past . . . thus ensuring your popularity within your clan.

Best wishes.

Life in NY and LA (where I've lived most of my star-kissed life and STILL love to visit from my now more centralized, slightly less frenetic, base of operations in The Rock, which I adore), is exhilarating, but NOTHING is more exciting than Gays on the March!

EVERYBODY in NY and LA loves the gays! (Except those people who AREN'T anybody, but wannabe.)

Entire families, including babies in strollers, attend Gay Pride and Gay Halloween weekends by the hundreds of thousands! Disneyland and Disney World host Gay Nights -- again heavily attended by straights, straight couples and straight families who know a good party when they see one.

So it's no surprise when one's gay friends over the years email one the latest tidbits from the ongoing national EXPLOSION that's the passage of Prop. 8 in California (and simultaneous passage of anti-gay legislation in Arkansas, Florida and Arizona).

Nor is the pitifully defensive reaction of those who supported these measures a surprise, when the viral spotlight that is the internet is immediately shone on them. The Mormon and Catholic religions, for example. Black churches, for example.

I wasn't around for Stonewall (Google it if you don't know), but THIS is being compared nationally to THAT -- which launched the same-sex equality movement in the late 60s.

Gay friends around the country, after some reflection since Nov. 4th, couldn't be happier at the unexpected turn things have taken!

The Florida court just today declared that state's decades-old anti-gay-adoption laws "irrational" and unconstitutional.

The Republican-appointed California Supreme Court, which declared anti-same-sex marriage laws unconstitutional a few months ago, is set to rule (next March, expectedly) on the legality of Prop. 8, which strips away a minority's legal right to marry by popular religious vote.

Make no mistake. This is ALL about a religious minority -- right-wing Christianists -- taking over this country. Which is why it's so hard-fought and heavily funded by their religious institutions (which have already infiltrated all three branches of the Military, law enforcement branches nationwide, school boards, local government, ad infinitum. Oh, Google this stuff, Hogger Bloggers).

Yes, my darlings, THIS issue is religions' last-gasp at an American theocracy.

What do they ALL hide behind? "Freedom of religion."

So, of course, Norma must climb out of her Chenal jacuzzi, temporarily abandon her recreational substances, towel off and share with you Dan Savage's brutally brilliant takedown of this "you're violating my privately held religious beliefs" bullshit.

At clicky.

Happiest of Thanksgivings!

Okay, HERE'S clicky.

"Vance is reportedly driving a Black '98 Oldsmobile Aurora.

"Little Rock police are asking anyone with information on Mr. Vance or his whereabouts to contact them immediately. They are offering a web-based service for people who want to submit tips or other information pertaining to the case or to Mr. Vance."

I had to bail at the 2:14 mark....Huck overload. First of all, if I had a bus, it would be painted a nice bus color and it wouldn't say jack on the outside. And if I looked out the bus and saw some goons in Team-DBI jackets....I'd never get off the bus. I'd be under a seat cringing for all I was worth. How FK'ing embarrassing is that! And I notice black people don't buy Huck's book. I saw one black guy standing out behind the crowd, looked like maybe the bus driver. Everyone else is white. Think maybe the black folks are joining Spike Lee is being a little pissed about the rip-off title of Huck's new book? Hattip to R on that one.

Well, I am in the land of cow and horse and there are wife-relatives and food as far as a man can see. It's going to be lovely here, I can tell already. Plus a new kitten to play with. And an Italian girlfriend to look at when no one is looking...oh, not an Italian girlfriend for me.... relative girlfriend, you see. My pies got jostled and some of my uncooked dressing slopped out in the box. I left the damn turkey at home and had to buy another one at Mena. Other than that and 400 bucks worth of car work.... we're ducky. I am thankful, but I plan on being bat-shit crazy thankful this time next year.

last book signing I attended was when an acquaintance did a book on Nostrodamus. It wasn't that crowded but still the excitement of doing it is grand.

Thanks , ES for The Old Crow Medicine Show, loved the beauties and music.

Darlin NormaB, did I detect anger and come-uppishness? Was it my own inferiority by way of being an Arkie seething to the surface? I dunno but, I didn't make it all the way thru your link.\

About the only Thanksgiving tradition I never overlook is cold-duck time. Tonight was no exception either and I'm so glad for spell-check and Les McCann and Eddie Harris' recording.

Cheers Hugh. Here's a clean, 2007 version of Eddie Harris' 1966 classic...on blue clicky.

.

Whoa! Thanks for the Cold Duck, eLwood. Excellent.

Not at all, eLwood!

As an accredited FART (Family Association Reparative Therapist), whose mission is to promote holiday harmony, the link was to an article sent me that turned out to be the best takedown of using religion to write bigotry and discrimination into state constitutions and, ultimately, the national Constitution!

That's all.

Have a wonderful day, everybody!

Yes, there's a lot to be thankful for.
