Open line and holiday special
I guess you've heard by now that flat-screen-crazed shoppers busted down the doors of a New York Wal-Mart at 4:55 a.m. today and killed an employee in the stampede. Three others were injured.
Despite this cautionary tale, I'm going to visit a Dallas shopping center in a few minutes. I'll be the one reading a newspaper in the food court.
For the rest of you, a very early open line.

Comments
Standing in line at bank today, I listened to a news story on the wall-mounted big screen in the lobby.
Interview with a couple of mom and pop operations in the NE part of the country.
Gist of story was that the small business owners had yet to be paid by the Hillary campaign for work done during the primary.
Not much money (to most), around four grand each. Invoices were for setting up chairs at rallies and I think, catering services.
These are the people HRC talked about being "one paycheck away from living in their cars."
She should pay these small business owners out of her personal pocket, then apologize. She has the money.
Shameful. Surely the economic karma for her will be severe.

I've just about finished collecting my items to be wrapped under the tree. And I did it all with a few clicks from my mouse. No congested stores, malls, or parking lots; mission accomplished in minutes rather hours, incredible selection, easy searching for the best prices, and delivered to my front door, often for free, usually already wrapped. All this, and no sales tax. Thank you cyberspace!

For a more accurate account of Hillary's campaign debt problem, click on name. Apparently JF is not aware of the laws concerning how Hillary can deal with her campaign debt and be a government official. Next time, maybe he will do his homework first.

Good way to end the season. The seniors will have a great final memory and the LR fans get to prove again how vital their support is to the program.
And, congrats to our ol' buddy Houston for winning the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss and Nutt are a good fit.

Strangelove is back. After an induced absence due to 'typekey' or whatever it is I was knocked out. However, I have deduced the way back in and so I am now again part of the festivities.

An open note to Derek Jenkins, keeper of the "boy named sooie" blog and occasional movie reviewer. I don't what to make of your review of the new Disney movie, Bolt. I haven't seen the movie yet and certainly your psychotic review would discourage anyone from ever watching any Disney movie. I hope that with therapy and meds, you'll be able to watch Disney movies again. Especially Pixar movies. In the meantime, please don't write movie reviews and if you do, review the movie instead using the space as some sort of catharsis for your disdain of the Disney legacy.

"Tailgating" has a lovely ring to it, I think. Though perhaps that derives from my early days as a, um, "social worker."
Nevertheless, gray drizzle-chilled fall football weather, crowds of colorful Razorbacks and Tigers swarming all over Markham and War Memorial, smells wafting from charcoal grills and kegs, war whoops and high-fives - what wonderful post-Thanksgiving excitement!
Especially the way I'm lucky enough to do it: from inside a luxury converted Greyhound bus that resembles an Embassy Suite. A REEELY NARROW Embassy suite. Parked near the 18th hole by the driver about 6:30 this morning.
The rest of us parked at St. Vincent's and showed up when we felt like it.
Three flat-screens for spectacular viewing. Wi-fi. Abundant recreational substances. Friends dropping by - and in - all afternoon.
And, of course, an actual warm toilet with one of those little "Occupied" latches.
Plus, winning is good.
Fabulous!
Off to the after-party!

Woooo Pig Suey! Who'd a thought it?! Arkansas 31, LSU 30. Undoubtedly a case(y) of too much Dick for the Tigers. Kudos to Coach Petrino and all the Hogs. A great comeback and perhaps a glimpse of what the future may hold for the Razorback Nation. And congrats to HDN and his Ole Miss Rebels! A preseason pick to finish one notch above the SEC-West cellar, HDN and his guys finish second and are probably headed to the Cotton Bowl. Life is good! We're off to join LSU friends for dinner in the River Market. Have a great night everybody.

Stuffed with turkey/dressing and delighted to be so. Six family members/four canines gathered with enough food for 20...a wonderful happy time. (And gas is cheap!)
Guess some people are nuts ...and even bigger nuts when gathered together for cheap stuff. (Don't know how to explain such destructive/hateful nuttiness any other way.)

Just a reminder that the River City Men's Chorus will perform their Christmas concert December 7th, 8th, & 11th at the Trinity Methodist Church in LR. Me and the missus went to the last two Christmas concerts and can only say that they are must see holiday season entertainment. This 50-men choir puts on a show that is flawless in performance and uplifting to the spirit.
The only way you'll be disappointed is if you don't attend.

I just have to say......never in my entire life have I ever wanted anything bad enough to be standing in line at 5 am. Never in my life have I ever wanted anything bad enough to join a mob in knocking down a door. Never in my life have I wanted something back enough to trample someone to death. Is this FK'ing India or something? I have pictures of a big sale at the Boston Store in 1937, the store is floor to rafters full of excited women going for the bargains. Newspaper reports from that day don't mention any injuries or deaths. What the FK has happened to Americans?
Also let me point out the guy that was killed was a temp worker which means his family will be lucky to get a 10% off coupon from Wal-Mart. Hopefully over on isle 8 they have a Bury-Yourself kit or the poor flattened man's family will have a giant funeral bill to pay. I guess no one will be arrested. And I guess no one will introduce a law saying that Wal-Mart and other big stores must have a large stock of items that are on sale, multiple flat screens so that in the future crazed shoppers trying to save $23.40 won't kill other people to get their damn bargain TV set. Come on...for the safety of the country they outlawed 3 for 1 drink nights. It's time to stop these gimmicky sales that are killing people. I wish that damn Rapture would come! We're hopeless!

Mother-in-lawEY and I had a lovely time in NWA shopping today. In and out of WalMart in 15 minutes at 5 am. Yep, 15 minutes. Granted, we weren't buying big-screen TV's or the hot item of the day, sheets. Kohl's was the problem this year. Everyone was nice, but long long line. As in 45 minutes long, but I got all the little ones on my Dad's side of the family bought for and inexpensively at that. All in all, I'm tired, but it was fun.

Not talking about lip-synched studio-processed Britney "talent."
Talking about the REAL DEAL -- DEMI LOVATO!
Girl kicks the shit outta the National Anthem a capella! No orchestral flourishes, no nothing!
Just her fearless young voice and a mike in a stadium full!

By golly eLwood....you may have found some common ground that will unite this nation! With that whole long list of disbelieving...... believers and non-believers might just come together. That's the kind of thinking we're gonna need in 2009. The whole family down here in Cowland watched the movie Giant on the big projector screen thingy and ain't it a shame that movie came out in 1955 and we're only moved about an inch forward in race relations. But my oh my I'm proud of that inch. I hope we move 2 inches next year....wouldn't that be great!

Black Friday has a whole new meaning thanks to Walmart.
That is really a strange term. Seems to me that Black Friday refered to Dec 22 and the Kennedy assassination. Then it was applied to the day after thanksgiving shopping orgy.
Do you people in LR not know how to drive? 430 was backed up for two rear end collisions last night.

TESTING! TESTING! TYPEPADSUCKS
Joke of The Day
Stick of Dynamite
A large, powerfully-built guy meets a woman at a bar. After a number of drinks, they agree to go back to his place. As they are making out in the bedroom, he stands up and starts to undress.
After he takes his shirt off, he flexes his muscular arms and says, "See that, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She begins to drool.
The man drops his pants, strikes a bodybuilder''s pose, and says, referring to his bulging thighs, "See those, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She is aching for action at this point.
Finally, he drops his underpants, and after a quick glance, she grabs her purse and runs screaming to the front door.
He catches her before she is able to leave and asks, "Why are you in such a hurry to go?"
She replies, "With 2000 pounds of dynamite and such a short fuse, I was afraid you were about to blow!"

But glad that's the worst thing I have to bitch about today!!!
Once again, you're right, durango...Save time, check beforehand. Your joke, bejeeus, is proof that some guys BEG for a reality check...no matter how hard we try to be, well, kind. I've never understood that kind of masochism. But then I'm still scratching my head over how President Shit for Brains ended up as President...and how any ONE human/President could wreak this amount destruction/havoc on so many things in ONLY eight years. (I guess he is 'great' at something Being the worst.)

I went to The Hop, the restaurant featured in that video on the main page of the Arkansas Blog. Bearded guy in the video was so harried that he looked like he was about to cry, I felt sorry for him. Another guy took the order of the lady before me, who just so happened to request exactly what I wanted. Then, it came my turn to order the strawberry shake that I had been craving all day. Bearded guy takes over and he says, "I can't give you a shake, we're busy."
You mean to tell me that you're so busy that you can't serve your customers?
Um, ok.
I eyed him for a minute, looked at my surroundings and then decided that I was in the wrong place for a lil colored gal.
I don't feel sorry for him anymore and I won't be going back there.
