Snyder v. Greenberg

Thanks to David Kinkade at The Arkansas Project, again, for a link to an article in a "libertarianish" magazine about Republican state Rep. Dan Greenberg's fight against $11,000 in funding for the state board that registers interior designers. Arkansas's penchant for protectionist licensing boards is old news around here. See David Koon's recent article on the Catch-22 work of the Contractors Licensing Board. And of course we're familiar, too, with Greenberg's affinity for publicity stunts. (Example: Wasting legislative time on a statute prohibiting the naming of public facilities after living people. We don't like the practice either. But we figure it says more about the people who engage in it and the legislature has better things to do. Like an ethics code, something that Greenberg once did a lot more talking than doing about.)

Kinkade, a brilliant political mind, made a rare misstep here. He missed mentioning the money portion of the article. We somehow doubt the author dreamed this reference up on her own. She wrote, in summarizing Greenberg's picayunish war on the interior design industry:

Perhaps this is just the warm-up for a chance to be persnickety on a bigger stage: There's a chance that a seat will open up in the House of Representatives next cycle. The current occupant of Arkansas' 2nd district seat, 61-year-old Democrat Vic Snyder, will soon be the proud father of newborn triplets. Wonder if he needs any help decorating the nursery?

U.S. Rep. Greenberg? Thoughts?

Comments

Lord have mercy.

When Vic decides to say farewell to the U.S. Congress, his replacement will more than likely come from the Democratic ranks rather than the Republican crowd. One of the rising stars in the State Legislature this decade has been Joyce Elliott. Her savvy, charm, charisma and talent mark her as a natural replacement for Snyder and one likely to achieve even greater milestones in her career on the national stage.

"Dan represents a school of thought that has been underrepresented in the state of Arkansas, probably since its founding. We have free market conservatives here, but Dan is really giving heart and voice to those arguments."
David Sanders

Boy, that free market conservative stuff has worked out real well hasn't it.

Way to go David. You da man.

.

It goes to show how difficult it is to reduce the size of government. Unless there are safety issues involved with interior design that I'm overlooking, the government has no business creating a licensing board. Kudos to Rep Greenberg.

Why is it "wasting legislative time" to work on a statute prohibiting the naming of public facilities after living people? The legislature could be doing much more damage working on other pet projects. Would you prefer that they spend time on statutes to torment gay people or creating new burdens for the public schools or discussing whether UA should be forced to play ASU in football? With annual sessions of the legislator coming, we need more people like Rep Greenberg to "waste" the time of the legislator to prevent them from doing any more damage to the public than necessary.

Better men than that punk have tried and failed.

We will be lucky if The Hon. Vic will continue to run until he is pushing his grandchildren in a pram down Kavanaugh. He is without peer in the United States Congress, period.

Chills up my spine.

The GOP could do a heckuva lot better than this clown.

Thanks Kong for the pleasant thoughts to counteract this very ill conceived notion, and thank you for speaking the truth, Sanford.

Severus,

I didn't think you or CharlesV, LargeA**, Don Key or Strange etc. etc. would want more county dumps or sewage processing plants named after G. W. Bush? I would have thought the danger of more activism by us ". . . damned liberal godless communists . . ." here in the near buckle of the Huckle-Bush belt would have made All the CCRRR central right "reel" Americans stage torchlight parades to the Capitol.

Mike Huckabee is more intelligent than quite a few Democratic Senators currently in office. While I don't support him as a Presidential candidate because of his limited skill set, he could do a great job in the senate.

Seve',

You left out IMO or IMHO. 'cause any Intelligence qoutient test that showed him higher than more than fifty of the current Senators would have to have been graded by someone who had to wear sandals to grade the test.

Click and think, but not too hard! It will make your head hurt. ũ
