Speaking of ignorant
The Southern political culture. Guns. Fear of Obama. Thanks to JB from Lower Ark. who directs me to the words of U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, recently elected, 61-39, to a second term in Congress from Georgia. Check it out:
A Republican congressman from Georgia is calling President-elect Obama a Marxist and warning that he might be planning to form a Gestapo-like security force so he can rule as a dictator.
Like the sound of that? Broun has more good ideas:
Among the legislation he introduced or signed onto were constitutional amendments banning gay marriage and requiring Congress to balance the federal budget; and bills that would outlaw abortion, replace income taxes with a national sales tax, ban the sale of Playboy on military bases, restrict the travel of leaders from nations that sponsor terrorism and use local police to enforce immigration law.
I hear Bentonville calling.
Get even with the likes of Broun. Buy one of these stickers from Rick Baber.

Comments
We liberals and moderates ignore at our peril the level of paranoia that is running rampant in parts of the country (and our state and city) that we seldom come into contact with.
I spoke with my gun shop guy this morning about a specific model that I am looking for. He said, "I don't have any guns left, man. The store is full of people right this minute. These people are scared s * * * less (that someone is going to take away their guns or prevent them from buying new ones)."
We liberals may scoff at s * * * heads like Broun, but he speaks for a lot of ignorant people, and those people are capable of some really horrific stuff, man.
They may seem laughably ignorant to us, but we need to remain aware that there are plenty of them.

He's afraid Obama is gonna rule like a dictator? Where the hell has he been the last seven or eight years? Oh, right. Bush was only going after THEM, not US.

California is $11 billion dollars in the red, attributed to the illegal alien invasion of LOS ANGELES. So now they are looking for ways to cut programs, so has gone the rest of the country. CUT OFF STATE WELFARE PAYMENTS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. 37 million people illegal aliens here, according to Tucson sector Border Patrol union local 2544--NOT 13 MILLION, AS THE NUMBERS HAVE BEEN MANIPULATED BY THE LIBERAL NATIONAL PRESS AND SPECIAL INTEREST LOBBY. Arizona has fallen to Sanctuary city policies as well, although their employer sanctions have started to turn the states wilting economy around.
An additional half-million coming every year. A massive financial impact on our economy by importing the worlds poor.
TELL CALIFORNIA'S TAXPAYERS TO PASS (H.R.1942), TO TERMINATE ALL FREE WELFARE HANDOUTS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS! The corrupt LIBERAL-politicians and judiciary stole your future away from you by pandering to illegal foreign nationals. www.numbersusa.com for facts not lies.

What I'm trying to figure out is why it is Marxist when a person calls for the CIVILIAN population to take control of some of the "burden" off of the military. To me, President Elect Obama's statement to this effect is not only constitutional, but goes along with the The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act. How can a person call himself conservative and NOT want the civilian population to be a bigger partipant in all of this? It seems to me that Congressman Broun is the one who is leaning toward a Marxist philosophy, not President Elect Obama. By the way, I did not vote for Mr. Obama or Mr. McCain and am a constitutionalist all the way. I will say that Mr. Obama's statement makes me feel a bit more comfortable about how he may govern as the Commander in Chief.

We have got to keep highly educated people in the highest offices in this country.
Next time somebody says (or blogs) nonsense about President Obama's "Marxism," play dumb and ask them politely, "What is a Marxist, anyway? Can you tell me?"
Each time they finish a sentence ask them more about Marxism. The origins, psychology and history of it. Pretend you are curious and need their help being educated.
That'll shut 'em up, believe me.

These are the people the Republican party has cultivated for years and without them they can't win because there just aren't enough fiscal conservatives out there. This truly was an unholy marriage and we can only hope the marriage implodes destroying all the Republican party. I read this morning that most pundits think the Republicans will turn ever more hard right in the near future, believing that's the way to win. Unfortunately we have a vast number of kooks who thrive on conspiracy and are bored out of their minds when they don't have some evil to fear. So it is always easy to scare up enough votes to get the Broun's elected and sometimes the Bushes and Reagans.

The second American Civil War is about to begin, I 'spect Max will be manning the Fort Hillcrest pillbox. The Palinistas have declared that ignorance is patriotic. They believe that hate is more powerful than tolerance and power is right. Liberals need to learn to hate hate, not tolerate it.

Welcome to Power Democrats
This is what you can expect for the next 4 years (That is all of Obama we will need).
What is so interesting is how offended you get with name calling since for the last 8 years you have all called Bush some of the most despicable names possible. What did Bush say in defense of your accusations? He said it is the right of Americans to speak their mind; it is what makes America great.
So stop calling all conservatives stupid because we do not agree with your policy views.
Keep an open mind as we will continue to remind you for the next four years why Obama was a mistake.
I did not read the link but here are a few thoughts on the issues you are so "Scared" about.
Keep in mind the gay marriage issue failed in California - Not exactly a conservative bastion so it must be more than conservatives who are against gay marriage. Not sure what is wrong with congress balancing the federal budget, this actually sounds like a good idea (President Clinton though so as well - Is he a stupid conservative?). As far as most conservatives are concerned the abortion issue is dead (No pun intended) as it ahs been settled by the Supreme Court and we accept the verdict. Overhaul of the tax code - Good idea. Not sure about the income tax idea but Tax code change is OK with me as well. Playboys are OK with this conservative as well as everyone else I know - I don't want my young children exposed but you can look all you want local police to enforce immigration law - Good idea, they actually already do help ICE, nothing new. Remember we are talking about "illegal" immigration so the use of local law enforcement to stop a crime does not sound that crazy to me.
I encourage you to go out and meet a few of the stupid conservatives you think are ready to overthrow the government. We are most likely just like you but with a few ideas that are a little different. Get past the name calling and fear and together we might just be able to make Americana a better place.

And all the lunatic comments from Broun, Brittanicus and the like will continue to seal the death of the South politically as reported on the front page of the NYT's this morning. Our embarassment as a state being the most to turn red in this election is due to the likes of the narrow minded, religious non-thinking, minimally educated, rednecks who frequently expose their ignorance on this blog. So go grab your guns, you live in such a dark world anyway, perhaps you can shoot one another in that darkness and do your country a favor.

Holy cow...can't make this crap up. After eight years of the most secretive, Civil Liberty destroying presidency to exist in my lifetime and NOW folks are scared that Obama is gonna take away Rights. Sheesh...the ignorance is staggering. I sure hope that inbreeding finishes off that gene pool...before it finishes us off.
On the other hand, I'm not gonna worry too much about the future of any politician who is dumb enough to try to take Playboy off military bases...plus he's obviously one of those bathroom-loving Republicans.
Brittwhatever...what a load of shit. Everyone with two working brain cells knows that it's white folk, mostly women/children, who make up the bulk of folk getting 'welfare.' Healthcare is another matter...don't know the data on who's visiting hospital emergency rooms 'cause they don't have insurance. But I'll bet that most of the 45 million uninsured Americans are not illegals. Sure, there are legitimate concerns regarding open borders/unchecked immigration. But portraying them as service-sucking no-counts who bring nothing to the table while being the cause of so many of our economic problems is unfair and fails to address the real reasons for our economic woes: Corporate exploitation, corrupt politicians and an outrageously expensive healthcare system that leaves 45 million Americans without basic care...sending them to overburdened outrageously expensive emergency rooms. If all the illegals left tomorrow...we'd be really sorry and still left with a broken healthcare system/corrupt politicians.

California is not in the red because of "illegals"... Nobody makes more money than those who profit off of the cheap labor and low cost demands of a workforce with no rights. The only thing is.. folks fact free bigotry and fear has helped diminish liberty and workers rights of American citizens along the way.
Without the "illegals", California would likely be much further in the red.

Well, Mdunn...when Obama starts taking our guns, running over Habeaus Corpus, allowing AT&T to eavesdrop without warrants (oops...bad Obama!), allowing torture and starts wars based on lies...I'll start calling him names worse than Monkeyboy/shit-for-brains. EVERY President, liberal or conservative, needs critics/watchdogs. What made Monkeyboy different, in my opinion, (and deserving of my disrespect) was the breadth of his overreach (the War, torture, Guantanamo, Patriot Act, etc.) and the failure of his so-called base to call him out on ANYTHING.

One more point which needs to be made very clear to the Blue Dogs and whiney assed republicans.
We don't balance budgets in time of an economic spiral. Clinton was president during a boom... Bush and the republican congress just spent us into more debt than all other presidents combined and left us in possibly the worst position to pull out of it.. But no one with two or more warm brain cells thinks we can get out of this without a lot of spending/deficits. Especially republicans if you look at their actions over the last 25 years.
After all Bush appointees, Paulson and Bernake are printing and burning many trillions in wealthfare as we sit here today. All for the very folks who robbed us to begin with.... with no strings attached.

I was all set to attack MDunn, but I think instead I'll turn the other cheek and agree with about half of what he or she says. I'm sick of the fighting, but that doesn't change my mind about a few things.
Bush deserves all the names he's called. He actually deserves a firing squad and I haven't counted that out yet. His administration is as close to Nazi as America has ever come. I've spent close to 3 years listing his crimes here, so I'll spare everyone 39 more paragraphs. No conservative is going to make up any ground by excusing Bush-Cheney of their crimes to my face. Cheney-Bush are simply the worst of the American worst.
Most of my lifelong friends are conservative and Republican, so while I think they've been wrong, I don't think they're stupid or a danger or in need of extermination. I think they're lazy and only know what Fox tells them....if they even bother to pay that much attention. I really think their views come from a few sound bites and their natural fear of anyone whose not a member of a country club. I know my friends didn't go buy new guns. I know they are not plotting to start Civil War 2. All that will goof up their trust funds and 401K plans. I don't understand them, but I don't fear them and I not only don't hate them.......I love em.....they're my friends. A friend loves a friend even when their FK'ing up.
President Obama will not be Left enough to suit me....I already know it. But...should he survive long enough to make a difference, I know he'll right the Cheney-Bush wrongs and govern with honestly and openness and intelligence. He'll make mistakes, but kidnapping and torture is a mistake he won't make. I'm too old to fall in love with any politician and I'll be glad to scream bloody murder should Obama pull any Cheney-Bush tricks. As I've said before....I think Obama will be a great President because he has the entire US black population, dead and alive from 1619 on resting on his shoulders and he knows it.
We need to calm down and learn how to be friendly even when we disagree, dial the wick back down to a normal flame. It won't be easy, I've taken to pure hate so deeply. But it was only because I saw my country going away in the hands of bad people, with flag lapel pins, flying my flag. We can have Civil War 2. It CAN happen here. I'm trying not to fan the flames.

With the exception of banning Playboys for the military, he has a good list. Our financial mess has a lot to do with the federal government's deficit spending. He needs to go a step further and demand that government use more transparent accounting. All top management at Fannie and Freddie needs to go to jail. We need to retroactively tax the hell out of every Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac executive who benefited from the fraudulant accounting.
The economy was fine until DemoncRATS took over congress 2 years ago. Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd assured us that there was no need to regulate Fannie and Freddie and that they were in great shape what 6 months ago. Thanks to Democrats LaRaza and ACORN get kickbacks from all new mortgages. Government deficit spending, fraud at Fannie/Freddie, and naked short selling by hedge funds like George Soros is what has gotten us in the mess we're in. Dumbass George Bush should have known better than to choose a Democrat as his Treasury Secretary - who thoughtfully provided the October surprise for Obama. We've got Sen Feinstein and Rep Pelosi skimming money to benefit their husbands's businesses/investments.
Welcome back to the Jimmy Carter presidency.

Being nice to most on the so-called other side is easy, dbi, most of my relatives/friends don't subscribe to my way of looking at things; and I love every last one of em and they love me. Most times we just don't talk about religion/politics; and if someone does...then we all do...then get on to food/kids. When Bush et al became Monkeyboy/Kool-Aid drinkers is when they decided that anyone not on their team was un-American and that Civil Liberties/the Constitution were just more liberal gobbledygook that needed to be trashed...for the greater good, of course. The point is that there has to be some kind of basic respect for differing opinions for them to civilly coexist...to people to play pretty. Maybe the Monkeyboy gang will go back to more civil days...me/my Republican relatives/friends been playing nice for decades.

Do you actually believe, severus, that the Dems are to blame for the current economic collapse? Monkeyboy could have vetoed anything he wished and the Dems did not have a veto-proof number, after all. I seriously wonder how your mind led you to place all blame on the Dems...despite a Republican Presidency and six years of total Republican rule.

You better check yer math on the Democrat majority there Sev. How does 49-49-2 with the likes of LIEberman, Pryor and Lincoln add up to a Democratic majority? Pick another lie to feel better about.
We're all wearing a less than respectable Republican cloth coat today because of Cheney-Bush and no matter how hard you dig with yer front paws, you'll never be able to cover the stink coming from that Republican financial pile of shit. Go back to yelling about Vince Foster's murder at the hands of the Clintons, at least there are fewer facts available to make you look foolish. I approve of this message!

Okay Severus,
Explain to us all how Frank and Dodd invented "credit default swaps" and Collateralized debt obligations (CDO's) and got Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Bear Sterns along with temporary survivors Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and AIG to leverage their worth with those risky credit instruments to 30 to 40 of their actual value all due to their faith in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. How they got the federal reserve not to regulate or even oversight these transactions.
Then you can explain how the Bush administrations' abdication of regulation and repealt of the Glass-Stegall Act (regulating banks) and how Greenspan didn't mean it when He.apologized for not regulating the banks as he was required to do
". . . In 2003, President Bush's chief thrift regulator - holding a chainsaw in his hands as a prop - boasted of his plans to cut banking regulations, including the scope of the reinvestment act and his enforcement staff, which he carried out over the next two years. . . ."
You have our rapt attention, we are ready to hear your facts?
While we wait, we will be thanking our future and current veterans for their sacrifices and dedication on this Veterans day (Click).

Credit default swaps, intended as yet another avenue for sucking money out of nothing is more of the deregulation, get the government off our backs, Republican mantra of trickle down. To lay any of the blame on Democrats is to show pure ignorance of the facts. Severus I think we should choose sides and all bet that maybe you will or maybe you won't won't default on your bills this year. If you do we collect, if you don't we collect. Either way, we line our pockets and you lose. Sounds reasonable and lucrative to me.

Are you main-lining the kool-aid now Service?
Last night while participating in a Forum on Disaster Capitalism, I listened to a fellow present a book entitled
"FREE LUNCH"
by David Cay Johnston.
I learned that U.S Bankcorp (USB) was leveraging 250:1 their assets to get their free lunch.
Try as you may but Fannie nor Freddie could match this hideously ridiculous practice.
"What I'm asking in Free Lunch is: Are you better off than you were a generation ago when Reagan was elected? Government is just as big, there are vastly more regulations, and as I show, we have many new rules and regulations that handcuff the invisible hand of the market and instead, in subtle, sometimes hidden, ways, extract money from the pockets of the many and funnel it to the politically connected few. It's the very thing that Adam Smith said would ruin the benefits of markets."
David Cay Johnston.
