The final votes
At least two races in Pulaski County are up in the air as a team of 20 Election Commission workers completes today the job of counting some 6,000 mail absentee ballots. About 4,000 got counted in a 12-hour day Tuesday. Election Co-ordinator Susan Inman said the crew resumed counting about 2,000 ballots this morning. They should complete the job by the end of the day.
At issue: The House District 38 race, where Democrat John Edwards has a 71-vote lead over Republican Kelly Eichler. Representatives of both candidates are watching the hand counting. There's also the JP race in which Democrat Kathy Lewison has a 101-vote lead over Republican Sid Rosenbaum.
There's no way to know how many of the absentees left uncounted until today have votes in those races. Inman says there are also some 100 or so military ballots yet to be considered.

Comments
I have to wonder how many voters though Kelly Eichler was an adviser to Gov. Mike Beebe. Her ad says she was a criminal justice "adviser to our Governor." OUR Governor is Mike Beebe. Huckabee is our FORMER governor.
That ad is very deceptive to say the least, unless she really was an adviser to OUR Gov. Beebe. I still don't know for sure.

That's what I thought as well. For those who didn't get to see it, it is on her out-of-state website.

You assume that a candidate hitching his/her star to Beebe would create a more desirable result. Joe White would disagree. And didn't our governor oppose both the lottery and Iniatiated Act One? Both passed with ease. Eichler might have won by now had she made it more clear she worked for Huckabee.

It was deceptive regardless of the effect. The effect really depends on the makeup of that district. I doubt that district is similar politically to Baker's senate district.

Well I am so proud of Obama and our country today
But God I am ashamed of our state, the story in Arkansas is the Democrats simply did not show up at the polls. 59% for McCain? Wow we are now redder than Mississippi, Georgia or South Carolina
Dumb bastards going to approve the lottery also blindly voted yes on everything else, a terrible bill to irrigate the White River, to ban a whole group of people from being Foster Parents, and and 59% FOR MCCAIN...it's disgusting
Not to mention a repun running so strong in what should be an overwhelmingly Democratic district like District 38... House Caucus and/or the Democratic Party did a bang up job of coming away and -1 result for the next State House... I don't know maybe next time instead of pouring 400k into one lost State Senate race you might "Spread the Wealth" and help Bill Witty, Earl Hunton, Val yagos, Tom Akin, Mike Bock or John Edwards?
For 200k in independent expenditures you could have possibly won all of those races (hopefully Edwards holds on) and still saved yourself 200k.
Anyway, What the hell is wrong with our state?
God bless President Obama!
Rahm Chief of Staff, Billy Secretary of State?

Remember yesterday's thread about how Logan and Van Buren Counties have picked the eventual winner for President every time since 1960? Not this time.
Logan County: 68% McCain; 29% Obama
Van Buren County: 64% McCain; 32% Obama

There's a 3:52 update on the Election Commission website--looks like they've just posted absentee results, and it looks like a win for Eichler.....

OK, looks like the numbers were temporarily screwed up. It's now showing a 74-vote lead for Edwards.

Democracy only works if people know what they are voting for. Sometimes I have to wonder such as with the foster parent ban.
