A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly open the door to the freezer, the parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"
old guy had a parrot for years and the parrot quit saying anything. It wouldn't utter a sound. This went on for months. The parrot would sit in the cage, head bowed and make an oowing sound a couple of times per day.
Old guy took parrot to a vet for exam and explained his parrot's behavior. The vet reminded the old guy that parrots are flock birds and social. His parrot needed company.
the old guy searched and found two nice females to go with his male parrot. Upon placing the two females in the cage the parrot squawked
Three very old men on the golf course. While playing a round on a breezy day, one blew over and fell down. "Windy, isn't it?" said one of them, while helping him to rise.
"No, it's Thursday," said his friend as the three walked on. The third man had listened intently and now he called out, "So am I. Let's have a beer!"

Former Centerton Mayor Fights Forgery Charge
"Williams claimed he changed his name and left his family in Hammond, Ind., to protect himself and his family from abductors who brainwashed him in 1975."
Now Mayor Williams is being charged with forgery and other assorted crimes.
The charge against Williams states that between 2000 and 2008 he fraudulently signed documents including "tax returns, government documents, and election documents" using the name Bruce Kent Williams or variations of that name.
"Defense attorney Doug Norwood said Thursday he'll ask Circuit Judge David Clinger to exclude a large period of time and the related documents, because the statute of limitation for a felony is typically three years."
Small world, goof...my best friend, Sherry, served as adoption coordinator at Boxar a few years back; and still does all she can. It's a great organization.
There were two glaring examples on here today of the double standard you all employ.
Max...It is just amazing how much slack you are cutting your boy Sabin through this UCA meltdown. Man, you won't even use his name. Let's recap how you and the DG would have treated this during the Huckabee years.
First off you would use his salary constantly. Example, Warwick Sabin, the $92,000 a year UCA political hack refused again today to release blatantly public documents.
Remember the rules Max....
* Use the salary
* Call him a hack
* Demand to know why the governor is doing nothing.
I invite any of you to disagree with me on this.
The other double standard today is the suicide at the state hospital. How come the ever gutless Jay Bradford gets to say...we're trying to fix that.
You would have called for his head in a heartbeat during the Huckabee years. You also would have pointed out he was running the division and he had no psych training etc ....
I could go on.....but please...try to apply the same rules you have always used here.
THANKS Goof - I'm hoping to hear from them soon - emailed them a couple of days ago.
Since this is obviously "Parrot" night, y'all make over to Parrot Beach in NLR next Sat for my radio co-host's birthday bash!! Port Arthur Band featuring Gil Franklin...GREAT blues.
Why I am getting the feeling more and more that the Treasury Department hasn't a clue about how to deal with the current credit crisis and that worse may be coming?
"Federal bank regulators have rejected a request by banks and consumer advocates for a program to let lenders forgive huge portions of credit card debt.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency rejected the request for a special program that would allow as much as 40 percent of credit card debt to be forgiven for consumers who don't qualify for existing repayment plans.
An unusual alliance of financial industry interests and consumer advocates, represented by the Financial Services Roundtable and the Consumer Federation of America, made the request to the Treasury Department agency on Oct. 29. It demonstrated the urgency of the situation in a deepening economic crisis: consumers - even those with strong credit records - defaulting at high levels on their credit cards, while banks battered by the credit crisis bleed tens of billions from the losses.
An agency official said the government objects to allowing banks to defer losses for several years on the forgiven debt, as would occur in accounting by lenders under the special program.
The agency 'does not consider any plan that defers the timely recognition of loss as prudent, and any such proposal cannot be viewed favorably by us,' Timothy Long, senior deputy comptroller for bank supervision policy, said in a letter to the two groups dated Monday and made public Wednesday.
'The timely identification, reporting and management of credit losses, along with adequate loan-loss reserves and capital levels, provide the public with ... confidence' in the banking system, Long wrote. . . "
Are you really that clueless, strange, Warwick doesn't have the authority to decide how a FOI request is to be answered. The FOI buck belongs with Legal Counsel and the Board. Once an official UCA request is answered, then the attorney general/courts determine whether that determination was legally correct. He's a 'spokesperson'...not a 'decider.'
In a poor state and a state school, I agree that salary is outrageous. But, again, he didn't give himself that salary...it's the Board again.
I'm waiting on Beebe/legislators to step forward and hold the UCA Board accountable for their malfeasance and/or incompetence.
Bush has until Jan 20, 2009 to continue his Bushonomics treatment of our economy and the Bush Bailout of the administrations' unregulated financial institution by Bush appointees Paulson and Bernanke. Call us Democrats crazy, but that's how the Constitution proscribes the change of executive branch and we believe in following it.
If you want to carp and cavil about what cause the crisis, you might find this article illuminating.
CLick
P.S. Hope you had a good Veterans Day and a few people saying thank you for your service.
You're not serious about the Obama recession. One thing I've come to truly detest about Republican rhetoric, if not Republicans, is that bullshit brain dead, partisan inanity. Take some fucking repsonsibility for the shit your party heaped down upon us. It's so lame. So bullshit. Surely you jest.
The reublicans fucked us good. They had their day and they had their way. And, yes, all of us are culpable because we gave them the hall pass. And all of us lived high on credit. All of us. We deserve half the shit that is coming our way. we shoudl be embarrassed. All os us mostly. But STFU with that stupid bullshit. You belittle yourself with that crap. It's truly patheric. the other half of the b ullshit is directly due to Bush and comoany bullshit.
Read a fucking buck, even one written by an objective republican.
True, the stock market is going to go way down from here. and it is going to suck for months, probably years. And if you think this is the bottom you are an deluded. but it is not going to be the Obamas fault. So just STFU and take the shit we all have coming to us like a man. you may not have any money left but you'll have some self respect. And in the end that may mean more to you.
And while I'm on a little tear, I will say that the UCA Board has been, is and will continue ot be regarded as a joke given their nonhandling of the Lu fiasco by any serious minded persons. Was pathetic. And that they are not really accountable says more about us than about them ultimately. But you can't really say that here can you, in this polite, strange little state. God forbid someone had to be held to a standard that isn't so parochial. Did I say joke?
Up until November 3rd, everything that went wrong in the Bush administration was Clinton's fault according to the right wing news media like Fox News.
After November 4th, everything that is going wrong in the Bush administration is now Obama's fault.
Well, excuse me, but last time I looked, Bush is still President. If he wants history to have a favorable view of him, the best thing he could do is take responsibility and apologize to the country for screwing things up so badly.
Blame your "Obama Recession" on the the right party Strange. The "Obama Recession" will end when wing nuts like you stop injecting divisive politics into every conversation. It is and always will be the Bush/Republican recession.
I was told by several members of this blog that since Bush was President it was his responsibility for the economic mess since he was the 'captain of the ship'. Well, the sword cuts both ways. Obama become President and he is the captain of the ship of state. He owns the recession. Get used to it. As things get worse---and they will---he owns it. People aren't going to accept your excuse that it was Bush's fault. They will say that Bush is no longer President and Obama runs things now. I told you that this would happen. Winning has consequences.
You and the democrats are taking the fall, pal. People who vote aren't going to accept your excuses that it was Bush's fault. I know people. When they start hurting and it gets worse they are going to grow impatient with excuses. People are very fickle and they have even shorter memories. If you think that you will escape responsibility then you are whistling Dixie.
Here I'd been SO enjoying "life" at the ATBlog w/out the coitus interruptus that is Strange - NO rest for the weary, I guess! Rush apparently started bloviating about the "Obama Recession" on Tuesday, and awaaaayyyyyyy we go. The kingdom for a BRAIN...
On a better note, go to www.change.gov and put in your ideas for "fixin'" America IF you haven't already. Here's mine:
END the ridiculous, counter-productive and EXPENSIVE "War" on Drugs!!!! Every presidential commission on the subject since Nixon has basically said the same thing, as have most medical and psychological associations and courageous law enforcement leaders all over the country. When put to an actual vote, the score is something like 20-1 FOR various forms of common sense approaches to drugs in America.
$50B a year down a rat hole, and NO CHANGE in the use/abuse of drugs, and therein lies the problem: Have the good sense to clearly delineate the difference between drug USE and drug ABUSE! The "fruits" of this "war" have been NO affect on drug abuse, while increasing violence 10-fold and enabling corruption of law enforcement and the "justice" system.
I am in my 70th year and a good citizen. 70% of the adults I've known well for the last 40 years (in MA, CA & AR) USE marijuana! These are farmers, students, laborers, POLITICIANS, musicians, professional people, doctors, lawyers (NO Indian Chiefs! ;>). Seriously, these are people who have paid their taxes, raised their children, volunteered...the full gamut of responsible citizenship - while abiding by the law in all other matters.
The country is PAST ready to end the senseless war on drugs. The ones who control the "war" are those whose LIVELIHOOD depends on continuing the single most wasteful undertaking in our history. The drug czar, like the ONDCP, hasn't a CLUE about actual drug experience in the populace. Treatment/rehabilitation for those who NEED it, and leave the rest alone!! Prisons and jails are bursting at the seams simply because of our counter-intuitive prosecution of an un-winnable "war" on citizens.
There are dozens of reputable studies and other reform activities going on all over the country. The most likely "partner" for government leadership in this effort is LEAP - Law Enforcement Against Prohibition: http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php
Sorry but you are just a sorry ass, partisan,arch- conservative, scared, right wing, asshole. Hard for me to see that bulshit neo-con FOX news pummelled addle brained, shit for brains crap any othert way. It is pathetic. Yoiu should get some self respect and think a bit more. Obma inherited some stupid, c omplicated, deep shit. Own up to it. Don't be stupid. Just stop it.
Well, let's just see how long the American people accept the excuses. I have been down this road many times before and I know their fickleness. I'm willing to wait. Just let's see what happens when unemployment goes to double digits, when 401 (ks) keep dropping, when people lose their jobs, when credit is non existent, when bombs start going off here in the US of A. There are consequences for winning and calling me names isn't going to diminish those consequences. Enjoy victory, it is fleeting.
Speaking of parrot jokes.....just read the idiot savant's entries.
Anyway, time for the Horny Parrot joke!!
A woman had a female parrot named Polly which kept saying: "Hello, I am very horny. Do you want to have some fun?"
She was frantic, so she went to her Pastor to find a solution to the problem. The Pastor said, "Bring your bird Polly to my house. I have two male parrots who read the bible and pray all the time. They will be a good influence on her."
So, the woman brought her parrot to his house and put Polly into the cage with the two male birds. She squawked, "Hello, I am very horny. Do you want to have some fun?" One male parrot looked at the other one, winked at him and said, "Put away the Bible, our prayers have been answered."
There is only one President and right now it is Bush. Why can't conservatives accept the fact that their leader and their party screwed up instead of always trying to blame the other party--even when it isn't in power and hasn't been for 8 years? At least Obama is already looking ahead at how he can fix the economic problems in this country since it is obvious Bush is just going to hide out in the White House for the remainder of his term while the country falls apart around him.
Obama will inherit the mess but that doesn't mean he was responsible for creating it in the first place. If your brother owned a house and let trash build up in the yard and the house start falling down and then he died, you would inherit his mess but you wouldn't think you were responsible for creat8ng it. So use your self-proclaimed "intelligent mind" Strange and make the analogy here. Obama will inherit the "Bush Recession" but he didn't create it.
Calling names. I'm calling you names because you refuse to accept responsibility for the shit that 8 years of repblican leadership has left us in. Democarts bear some responsibility to be sure. And politicians, en masse, I will admit, basically are childish, under-developed, ego-maniac, sociopathic, attention craved, pricks who are in way over their heads given the complexities of the world today and the policy decsions they are asked to deal with. and for that we are probaly all fucked ultimately. And I do think we are. I believe the real complexities of the world today make our political leadership look like rank, stupid amateurs in comparison. They are silly looking. And we know this at some level but we continue to watch like it is a friek show and we are all in a stupor.
But that having been said, you can't cast blame at Obama. You know this. You say otherwise but you surely know this. we are in seom deep shit. Deeper that we think, or at least have admitted so far. And the pain will be great and far rfeaching. No one could fit it that easily and quickly. bush sucks and the effects will be long-lasting.
So Strange, according to YOUR extra-Constitutional folderol Obama became "responsible" at midnight 11/4, and you, plus your infallible Crystal Ball "know" all?!! Can we all get some of the drugs you're on, PLEASE? Better than LSD, obviously...and it would go a LONG way towards rehabbing your reputation here.

Strange--Bush is President until noon on January 20, 2009, so until then, it is his recession. Don't believe the garbage that Rush and his cronies are spouting. Think for yourself once in awhile and realize what a bunch of crap they spout that you regurgitate back as if it were the gospel.
"Bush has until Jan 20, 2009 to continue his Bushonomics treatment of our economy and the Bush Bailout of the administrations' unregulated financial institution by Bush appointees Paulson and Bernanke."
Yeah!!! Then Barney Frank and Pelosi can take full charge and do it right!!
IABL1969 & NVR, come on guys. He has a point about the financial crisis. The Rethuglicans did try to bring bills to the floor that would have regulated Fannie and Freddie. The Democrats did lie and say that neither was in trouble or needed oversight. We have to accept that. And I hate to sell us out so much, but the CRA was a total Clinton sell-out to buy votes for our party. Hey, it worked, but that doesn't mean we did the right thing.
Larry, I agree with you. it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to make drug use illegal. Now that we will get our healthcare paid for there won't be any costs associated with treating the really bad abusers. and would you mind telling us who the politicians are that you know smoke weed please? I've been telling my friends that I know they do, but they don't believe me.
Strange, unfortunately the era of stupid will not totally end until January. We'll have to watch Bush continue to screw up stuff until then. I've been around a while, too. You're right that people are fickle, but I think that the simple fact that we'll have people who know how to think addressing our problems will give people more hope than they dreamed was possible. It will be only you and the other 15%er's who will be listening to Rush and Faux News and crying about how Obama hasn't fixed all our problems before his inauguration.
You really don't get it do you? You might as well accept the fact that whether it is today or tomorrow or January, your guy is going to get tagged with Obama's Recession. What are you going to say then? Eventually your excuses simply won't wash as things deteriorate. When you won the election you won this. Rant all you want but it is inevitable. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Maxine Waters could hide behind the ambiguity and lack of knowledge of the average voter about government and economics but that won't cut it when things go south and you control all three branches of government. Strangelove warned you of this long before the election but you ignored me. Eventually you won't be able to.
IABL1969, the warS cost us a lot of money, too. we certainly had to do something didn't we? that's what Rethuglicans think anyways. I think Bush should have just made a statement after 9/11 that we wouldn't continue our foreign policies, and then the Muslim extremists would know that we got the message. Thank god that Obama can finally say what we've all been thinking for 8 years.
Larry, the market really dropped once Obama was the likely choice for president 6 months ago when we called it. But he'll bring it back up once workers start getting paid more.
Threats against Obama's life are much higher than any other president elect has endured.
Strangelove and others need to realize that their hate chatter contributes to such behavior and stop it.
Palin whipped her crowds into a frenzy, and will share the blame is some nut decides to kill Barack Obama.
We are supposed to be a country that stands for love, not hate.
Special for Strangehate at blue name. This must be Obama's fault, too. After all, Obama lives in America and the gas drilling is taking place in America. Guilt by association or being on the same planet or something.
Warning- don't read the linked article if you ever want to feel good about your drinking water again. Drill, baby, drill.
So if I disagree with obama that is equivalent to 'hate'? Then I am responsible for some nut's actions? Are you always totally irresponsible or just tonight? That line of thinking negates any disagreement and results in a chilling effect on freedom of speech. Do you condone the junk that dailykos puts out. You don't consider that hate?
I reserve the right to disagree with my leaders and to express that difference of opinion in accordance with my Constitutional rights of free speech. You and the rest of the 'jack boots' can either get used to it or you can ally yourselves with others who think the same way. I think they call them Nazis.
"So if I disagree with obama that is equivalent to 'hate'? Then I am responsible for some nut's actions?" Posted by: strangelove
Kinda like the perfect chorus of us liberals on the Arkansas Times blog who unanimously agreed that it's just fine to rough up little old ladies and blow air horns in the middle of church services.
Okay, I am more than a bit sleepy, but before I tuck in for the night I'll share a parrot joke. It's bad, though.
Woman goes to the pet store and buys a parrot. She's assured the thing can talk, so she takes it home and starts trying to teach it to talk.
A week later she comes back and asks why the bird won't talk. The pet store owner asks if she's got a mirror for the parrot. She says no, so he sells her a mirror. She goes home and tries again.
Next week she comes back and says the bird still won't talk The pet store owner asks if she has a bell for the parrot. Woman says no, so he sells her a bell. She goes home and tries again.
Next week she comes back -- with the dead parrot. She's angry, understandably. Pet store owner asks if the parrot ever did say anything.
"Yeah, he did. Right before he keeled over, he asked if you ever thought about selling me any food."
Why can't the media figure out what a colon means? As in, "There was chatter in the blogoshpere: I had Obama's gay lovechild, I opened the door to a spaceship and Obama came out, and I invited Obama over to sacrifice a baby whale."
Something very similar to this was written by Ayers, as an epilogue to a new edition of his 2001 book, and the media (AP, Fox, SunTimes) are omitting the fact that what comes after the colon is merely Ayers' enumeration of what precedes the colon; i.e., Ayers is explaining, specifically, what the chatter was, not actually stating Obama was an alien, that they had a lovechild, or that they truly sacrificed a gay baby whale.
Are our media that fucking illiterate? Or, do they merely expect us to be?
Follies indeed. Maybe not exactly as Max intended the word to be taken, but follies indeed. I guess the moon is full, right? I started to rebut comments on two threads, then figured it for a waste of time and jettisoned both comments. You folks lucked out tonight.
Doigotta,
The Moon reached fullness last night just after midnight. But it does bring out the crazies the following day.
Strange is bottom fishing again...trying to sell people on the idea that a black man of dubious
birth (according to strangle) will inherit
the Bush Recession, which already been labeled a recession before monkey boy leaves office.
Good luck to Rush Dopehead Limbaugh and his lapdogs like strangle.
However, Limbaugh may be short supply a year from now. When the Fairness Doctrine
is reinstated there will be other voices on the radio and tv. Can't wait.
.
Funny, no one called the Great Depression the Roosevelt Depression, it was Hoover's and it stuck. The same will happen with the Bush Depression. Obama will be seen as the hero who stepped into the fray and saved America after a long hard fight against impossible odds.
But like a cat covering his shit, our friend strangelove is trying to cover the large steaming pile of Cheney-Bush shit by tossing blame on Obama 2 months before he takes office. Not even a 4 year old would be fooled. I suppose, strange, that Fahrenheit 9/11 was the worst movie you never saw, huh.
Your ilk was wrong about Bush, so please don't waste any time stepping up to be wrong about Obama.
DBI, I'm sure we'll be right, but let's let Obama do something before we start talking shit. plus we're not going to win any arguments about 4 year olds understanding domestic & foreign policy and the economy. when we say really dumb crap like that we just sound like we're reaching because we can't think of a stronger argument.
What a fun thread! Hate I missed it. I totally <3 whacky wingnuts...they are great comic relief. I especially like the wingnuts who try to pretend they're lefties. What a strange and whacky bunch they are! Viva la right-wingnuts! 'Night y'all!

Three nuns used to go to the church from their homes every day. On the way they would pass a house where a parrot lived. The parrot would call out three colors every time the nuns would pass by. They soon realized that the parrot was calling out the colors of their respective underpants. They tried to fool the parrot by switching positions while walking and even wearing different colored underpants every day, but the parrot was never wrong. Finally they devised a way to fool the parrot by not wearing any underpants at all. When they walked across the house the parrot spoke out loud, ''Straight, straight, curly.''
Once upon a time, there was a famous parrot prophet. Over a century in age the grizzled parrot was renowned for not speaking often, maybe one a decade.
However, the parrot was as prescient and accurate as Nostradamus adherents claimed his quatrains were. Believers of the wondrous parrot maintained a constant watch for the bird's next prophecy.
In 2006, the parrot munched some seeds, cleared his throat and as all the anxious listeners leaned in to hears his words said, "What Strangelove and leftwingwhackjob will fear is that the Obama administration may be able to begin to solve some of the problems within three years!"
And the parrot-listeners looked at each other in wonder and said, "Who the h*** are Slrangelove, leftwingwhack job and Obama?!"
Shit. Sorry I missed this one. I so enjoy a good fight.
I figured since the political thng was settled, I'd take a night or two off.
Saw Iron Man last night. The best superhero movie ever.
So,
Peace & Love everybody.
IT'S DOKTOR KIZZEE AGIN... BLAMING TALK RADIO... AND SARAH PALIN FOR ALL THE VIOLENCE IN THE WORLD. AND ANY THAT MIGHT BE TARGETED AT OBAMA TOO..
SHE'ZA DOKTOR DONCHA KNOW..SHE MUST BE RIGHT... GOOD GRIEF.. YOU SOUND LIKE THE TRAILOR TRASH YOU PURPORTEDLY ABHOR.
SHAME ON YOU.. PRACTICE LOVE, NOT HATE.
AS MY DAD USED TO SAY TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU.. YOU ARE SO EAT UP WITH THE DUMB ASS.

The Parrot

A man with a pegleg, hook hand and an eyepatch went to apply to be a pirate.
Interviewer: How did you get that pegleg?
Pirate: Arrr. I got me leg shot off during the first world war.
Interviewer: How did you get that hook?
Pirate: I got me hand cut off by a big knife.
Interviewer: What about your eyepatch?
Pirate: It was a rainy afternoon and I looked up into the sky and a bird crapped in me eye.
Interviewer: And that put your eye out?
Pirate: No, it was the day after I got me hook.

My twist on Jake's parrot story:
old guy had a parrot for years and the parrot quit saying anything.
"My prayers are answered!"

Larry - if you are looking at a boxer, go to the Boxer Ar Rescue website and see what they have for adoption.
I actually drove up to Ward and looked at a couple of dogs before I found JD who was also a rescue.

Thibodeaux: Boudreaux, did you get the parrot I sent you for your birthday?
Boudreaux: Yes, it was good!
Thibodeaux: You ate the bird!
Boudreaux: Of Course I ate it.
Thibodeaux: That bird spoke five different languages!
Boudreaux: Then he should have said something.

MORE HYPOCRISY
There were two glaring examples on here today of the double standard you all employ.
Max...It is just amazing how much slack you are cutting your boy Sabin through this UCA meltdown. Man, you won't even use his name. Let's recap how you and the DG would have treated this during the Huckabee years.
First off you would use his salary constantly. Example, Warwick Sabin, the $92,000 a year UCA political hack refused again today to release blatantly public documents.
Remember the rules Max....
* Use the salary
* Call him a hack

Constitutionally, Strange.

THANKS for listening!

Moral: Polly doesn't want a whacker.

IABL1969 & NVR, come on guys. He has a point about the financial crisis. The Rethuglicans did try to bring bills to the floor that would have regulated Fannie and Freddie. The Democrats did lie and say that neither was in trouble or needed oversight. We have to accept that.

Yeah, told you it was bad.

Three Nuns and a Parrot

And the parrot-listeners looked at each other in wonder and said, "Who the h*** are Slrangelove, leftwingwhack job and Obama?!"

when Max Brantley wants to censor free speech he simply blocks your ID. It's obvious that anyone who actually pays for Arkansas Times is either:
1. getting robbed
2. being lied to
3. anti-American
4. a Socialist
5. a Communist
6. really stupid
