The Obama cabinet
Penny Pritzker to Commerce secretary. Local note: Her brother, J.B. Pritzker, another member of the billionaire Chicago family, gave $25,000 to the Arkansas lottery campaign. Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to Homeland Security.
PS -- I'm really hoping for Hillary Clinton to land secretary of state, for a purely petty reason. The cable TV shouters and the harrumphing commentariat -- Broder, Dowd, Friedman, etc. -- will have a stroke. Why, many of them (Chris Matthews particularly) as much as suggested last night that a Clinton appointment would betray all of those who, like them, worked so hard to defeat the bitch and her scheming spouse.
UPDATE: Forget Pritzker. She's out.

Penny Pritzker: Change you can believe in.
"The [sub-prime] financial engineering that created the Wall Street meltdown was developed by the Pritzkers and Ernst and Young, working with Merrill Lynch to sell bonds securitized by sub-prime mortgages," Timothy J. Anderson, a whistleblower on financial and bank fraud, told me in an interview.
"The sub-prime mortgages," Anderson said, "were provided to Merrill Lynch, by a nation-wide Pritzker origination system, using Superior as the cash cow, with many millions in FDIC insured deposits. Superior's owners were to sub-prime lending, what Michael Milken was to junk bonds."
In other words, if you traced today's sub-prime crisis back to its origins, you would come upon the role of the Pritzkers and Superior Bank of Chicago.

Dang, pumpkin, I thought this mortgage stuff could be directly traced to a bunch of good-for-nothing poor folk who got together and hoodwinked innocent Wall Street bankers...after Clinton/his henchman changed laws to allow the con, of course.

The Pritzker chick's uncle Bob used to come to Northeast Arkansas yearly--he owned the Marmon Group, which has Colson in Jonesboro and Monette, and Darling Store Fixtures in Greene and Clay counties. Last I heard of him, his kids from his second, much-younger trophy wife, were suing their half-siblings and Penny and her brothers for not getting their "fair share" of the Pritzker fortune.

Time for an update, Max. Pritzker is out of the running.
It's not that I think Hillary wouldn't be a good Secretary of State, I'm just not sure she would be the right fit, given that she and Obama disagreed most on foreign affairs, unless Obama is really going for that adversarial model described in Doris K. Goodwin's book on Lincoln.
I personally would rather see Hillary on the Supreme Court.

Let's not overlook that sometimes the Clintons make it difficult to do bidness with them.
Bill will make much ado spinning around how there will be no conflict of interests between his money hustling and the position of SoS. He will claim he's not doing something or will stop doing it then find another label or another way to do it. That's what bothers Team Obama.
Pumpkin you need a little more family history before believing the bit about the Pritzker family
designing the mortgages which melted down. I think they had sold their interests long before that occurred.

Obama has the same problem when those who are his most ardent admirers as Salman Rushdie described for those who claim to love God. They must make life very difficult for him. He hasn't even taken office yet and already the naysayers are critical. More than most any candidate I've ever observed, it seems supporters have assigned to Obama thoughts and intentions that he never stated for himself. He deserves a few months in office before everyone starts deciding they know more about what he should do than he knows for himself.
Personally, I would rather Hillary not be part of the Obama administration, but if they go that route, it would be a very powerful team of the smartest people in goverment and politics today. I'd rather see how it all plays out than second guess everything the man does.

Shoot, CiCi, it's only been a week (about) since the Hillary/Secretary of State stuff started and I'm already tired of the Clinton-bashing talking heads. It's like the 1990s starting all over again...and it's just a 'maybe.' But after my initial recoiling, my thought process led me to the reality that she hasn't done a damn thing but consider taking a Cabinet position. And, that despite millions spent investigating everything Clinton she's never been found with her hand in one cookie jar. She did, however, forgive a cheating hubby...damn her, damn her. So I'm not going to give the eternal Clinton haters the satisfaction of letting their nipping get under my skin. Hillary for whatever she chooses.
Yup, eLwood, the Clintons, especially Bill, know how to earn money, know how to trade connections for income. But I don't recall that they've ever been caught crossing a legal fiscal line...ever been caught doing anything that every other DC politician isn't doing. (Not a defense of money/politics...a belief that the Clintons are quintessential politicians--no more, no less.)

Ditto, Zelda. If I were a Clinton, after 8 yrs of the horror which followed a very successful 8 yrs of Clintons, and I had to listen to all these jerk-asses who blame them for everything and jump to all sorts of conclusions - I would take my millions and go find something easy to do and forget their stinking rears. Who needs them? The Democrats who slammed the Clintons for no good purpose, make it very hard, even today, to fully get on board with Obama.
I'm proud of him and I'm thrilled to see my two younger sons so happy with the candidate they supported, but a lot of the joy is gone for me and I would like him a lot better if he would come out and put this shitty attitude among his staffers out of the door. If they can't respect Obama enough to shut the hell up about his choices for his cabinet and the decisions he makes, they need to be gone - yesterday! They don't appear to be so happy Obama won, only so thrilled that Hillary lost. They are petty and very ugly and made me come very close to staying home on Nov 4.
