The Onion nails it
Headline:
"Nation finally shitty enough to make social progress"
Although polls going into the final weeks of October showed Sen. Obama in the lead, it remained unclear whether the failing economy, dilapidated housing market, crumbling national infrastructure, health care crisis, energy crisis, and five-year-long disastrous war in Iraq had made the nation crappy enough to rise above 300 years of racial prejudice and make lasting change.
...
Carrying a majority of the popular vote, Obama did especially well among women and young voters, who polls showed were particularly sensitive to the current climate of everything being fucked. Another contributing factor to Obama's victory, political experts said, may have been the growing number of Americans who, faced with the complete collapse of their country, were at last able to abandon their preconceptions and cast their vote for a progressive African-American.
Citizens with eyes, ears, and the ability to wake up and realize what truly matters in the end are also believed to have played a crucial role in Tuesday's election.

The last paragraph above NAILS the sit-y-ashun here in the Dumbass State!! Of the few people I've spoken with at the Chiro's & bank, NONE of them understood the annual Ledge act NOR the foster children deal (Dr. C did get the latter)!! We need to have 'regular folk' pass on the wording and especially the TITLES of these ballot items in the future. I've yet to find one person who thinks the annual Ledge is a GOOD thing...
We need to start a PLAIN LANGUAGE ballot initiative for next time to keep these Morons & miscreants AT HOME as long as possible - do NOT believe the people really WANTED this!!

The Onion has some of the best writers - great stuff!
I'm elated that Obama won in a landslide, but I'm also embarrassed to be living in Arkansas today. My county voted more than 2 to 1 against Obama. Either they are dumber than a box of rocks or they are racists, does not matter. Shame on them!

Lieberman Vows to Work With President-Elect Obama
Wouldn't it be poetic justice if President-Elect Obama refused to work with LIEberman? I think he should be our next Ambassador to Haiti. (be nice DBI....remember......we're going to be nicer...be nice)

I am very disappointed in the State of Arkansas who voted so heavily for McCain. Obama is the President that will deliver us from the past 8 years of STUPID. From this past election our nation has grown so much though. The onion nailed it so well in the passages above. It's about time these stupid redneck white trash idiots who think Obama is a baby killer or a Muslim extremist to grow the hell up and get over the race issues. These uneducated people that voted republican in this election should be ashamed of themselves. By the way if everyone noticed on the RED/BLUE maps last night on TV that almost all the republican states were southern states. It's completely ridiculous that Arkansas' people and values are that far behind the rest of the worlds.
