The perpetual campaign

House speakers have been decided well ahead of time since forever. For years, though,  it was sort of an informal sign-up process that generally produced a winner that passed around at least partly on longevity.

No more. Term limits and the need to accrue power and achievements quickly has changed all that. So it is that the race for House Speaker 2011 is well underway. Leading candidates are Reps. Robert Moore and Johnnie Roebuck. Update here. Byproducts can include serious horse trading in current legislative affairs, campaign contributions and assorted other political skulduggery.

Comments

There is a quite rumor a fairly prominent Arkadelphian will challenge Roebuck in the next election.
That to go along with the fact she only has an apartment in Arkadelphia, and actually "lives" in Hot Springs could spell trouble for her.

"I want to be a facilitative leader that brings everybody's talents to the forefront. ... I feel that I have the background and the knowledge to help people become everything that they can become," she said Wednesday.
Roebuck

What?

I think that one sentence says she's in education.
