Dog's life in Helena

Comes word of an agreed fine of Helena-West Helena Mayor James Valley for setting city pound dogs loose in the nearby national forest.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, ARKANSAS – Helena-West Helena Mayor James Valley has been issued a federal violation for abandoning personal property on the St. Francis National Forest (36 CFR 261.10e).   The agreement between the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ronald Davis, Jr., {Attorney for Valley} and Mayor Valley results in Valley paying fine and restitution of $1,900.


The restitution charges were incurred after the mayor instructed an employee to dump two loads of dogs in the St. Francis National Forest and will be paid to Northeast Arkansans for Animals for their work in locating and rescuing the dogs.


“We appreciate the assistance of Northeast Arkansans for Animals of Jonesboro and area residents who assisted in the recovery of the dogs,” said Ozark-St. Francis National Forest Supervisor Judi Henry.

Probably a good outcome. Turning the mayor loose on a cold night with light clothing a few miles from civilization also had occurred to me.

Max, I believe you meant a few DOZEN miles out, and he should have been taken there blindfolded and in a roundabout way so he wouldn't know which way to turn. And locals should have been given free rein to take pot shots at him if he came in the yard looking for water or a handout.
