Mike Huckabee on gay bias
Interesting video here. An independent Michigan news website caught former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at a book signing in Lansing and asked him again about his differentiation of discrimination against gay people and the civil rights movement. Hisw comments on "The View" have roiled the gay community.
Classic Huck: He sounds reasonable in his unreasonableness. Hate crime legislation? He's not going to be for it. Ready to agree that gay people have been targets of violence on account of who they are? Not really to an unusual degree. From his answer, you draw the conclusion that he believes gay people have suffered no more offense than Christians. The Christian-as-victim card and the use of gay people as a wedge with black voters tells you all you need to know about his sympathies. But he knows his audience, and that's the truly sad thing.

And how damn difficult could that be?

Oh slick mouth Huck is what makes censorship so appealing!
It doesn't matter how you dress up a turd (tux) but in the end all you still have a piece of shit!

I am opposed to hate crime legislation though I suspect my logic differs from Rev. Huck.
To me beating the very life out of a person because the refuse to give-up to rape is no less heinous than beating a person to death for the color of their skin.
Declaring the brutal beating of a black man a higher crime because the attacker is white becomes demeaning by making black-black crime even less offensive than it already is (look at sentencing).
Question of motive is always there for the judge or jury to consider but it shouldn't be an additional crime.
It is very bad for prosecutors the defense becomes "Yeah I kicked his head a few times but I didn't know he was gay."
Creating another element of the offense creates an additional ground to attack on appeal.
