She has a dream

State Rep. Lindsley Smith of Fayetteville dreams that reason will prevail in the Arkansas legislature and pour the mighty stream of equal rights down on women. In other words, she is, as long promised, planning to try again to win legislative approval of the Equal Rights Amendment.

The Family Council and the usual rank opportunists (Gilbert Baker comes to mind) will wave whatever bloody shirt is handy -- unisex bathrooms, abortion, homosexuality and, who knows, maybe they can find a way to bring in union bashing, too -- to beat this simple declaration of equality of rights under the law.

I'm all for the ERA. Then we can use the same rest rooms. Oaklawn would then be more attractive. Perhaps the female users could browbeat the males to wash before leaving the premises.

Yeah, but then leaving the lid UP will be the sign of a REAL man!!! ;>) Seriously - that this is even debatable is a GIANT stain on "the greatest country in the world." And of course the usual suspects are lined up on the wrong side once again.

What amazes me is the WOMEN who are against this. They WANT to teach the young male boss how to do his job when he comes in at a much higher salary than they make after 25 years? And if you're thinking, well, he has a college degree . . . honey, that ain't worth spit. Her high school diploma plus her experience, trumps his college degree in everything, except that oh-so-important piece of paper. That, and of course, the fact that she's a woman who knows her place.

rep. smith seems confident this time around. let this please be the year! right side of history! all that!

Lesson number one form the last go around may very well be.

Keep David Pryor away from the negotiations. With Dems like him, who needs enemas!

I wonder if Representative Smith and other AR Dems from this side of the dark ages has a petition of support folks could sign?

Looks like Arkansans are really getting behind the ERA this time around!
