What recession?

The headline exaggerates. But still, Arkansas tax revenue in December was up over last year and forecast. Reader notes, astutely, however, that sales tax revenues are off. That's a more reliable indicator of general activity than the monthly increase in income tax receipts, most likely.

Sales tax is down, meaning sales are down. Suspect part of the income tax rise is people cashing out retirement and deferred compensation plans while seeking work.

I will state again that Arkansas generally does not experience the boom times the rest of the nation experiences nor does it experience the bust times. We just plod along at 48th or 49th with no great ups or downs. Our local county sales tax revenues are about the same will little differences. But, keep in mind, the money the county receives the last week in November is money collected by the State three months ago.
