LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas lawmakers voted Thursday to cut the 3.85 percent raise they gave themselves and constitutional officers almost a week ago, when Gov. Mike Beebe signed the pay hike into law but turned down the extra compensation for himself.

Sen. Gilbert Baker, R-Conway, said the initial raise included in the general appropriations bill relied on outdated figures from the Consumer Price Index.

The proposed reduction, filed by the House and Senate chairmen of the Joint Budget Committee, calls for cutting the raise to 3.3 percent.
