Bush has left the building

He has left the White House, never to return as president. (The White House photo was taken shortly before his departure, when he walked out to greet the Obamas for the ride to the ceremony.)
It is impossible, with the event not much more than an hour away, not to invoke the famous words:
When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual,
"Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
CNN just said more people will watch the inaugural than any event in the history of television. Even the World Cup.

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,
Those of mechanics, each one singing his, as it should be, blithe and strong,
The carpenter singing his, as he measures his plank or beam,
The mason singing his, as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,
The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand singing on the steamboat deck,
The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing as he stands,
The woodcutter's song, the ploughboy's on his way in the morning, or at the noon intermission, or at sundown,
The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work, or of the girl sewing or washing,
Each singing what belongs to her, and to none else,
The day what belongs to the day-at night, the party of young fellows, robust, friendly,
Singing, with open mouths, their strong melodious songs.

He may be a good, albeit simple, man. I don't know what's in his heart.
But it's debatable if he kept us safe, and he SURE didn't keep us strong.
