Friday night frenzy

If the crowds weren't heading to the first round of the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase last night at Sticky Fingerz (see Rock Candy for updates and other things to do daily) they were storming down to Riverdale to try the just-opened Maddie's Place, Brian Deloney's casual New Orleans-influenced spot newly opened between Faded Rose and Buffalo Grill.

Fair warning. The line was out the door and there was hardly a scrap of standing room to wait inside. We called ahead to pick up the oyster poor boy above. See the Times next week for a review. No, they don't take reservations. I'd suggest an off-hour visit.

Damn, Mackie, who eaten all the fries on the way home?

Tsk tsk....Max you know its PO'BOY.

Maddie's Place just opened? With cajun cooking?

Next door to Faded Rose? With cajun cooking"

Remind me to lose sleep and get excited.

While you're writing about useless food I had quite an experience during the ice storm.

WalMart in Fayetteville had opened after a two day closing period. People including my self were waiting outside the doors for the registers to be restored. I went for tp since with extra bottoms for the stool our supply would soon run out.

What disappeared first off the WM shelves were, as expected, lanterns, flashlight, and propane bottles. Bottled water wasn't in high demand this time.

But next is what got me. Hot dogs were zapped up, then burger meat, and the burger buns were sold out very fast. The shelves were totally vacant of frankfurters of any kind imaginable. Lunch meats went pretty fast but not as fast as hot dogs.
Stuff you can cook on an outdoor grill or with a campstove.

Man, eLwood, I believe you! Wife and I were shopping in the West LR Kroger this morning. We damn near got knocked down by a Kroger employee elbowing her way past us to get to the Oscar Meyer weenies and then the five-pound "chubs" of burger meat. She grabbed mass quantities of both. Her basket was already overflowing with hot dog buns and burger buns.

"This time tomorrow [Sunday] won't be a weenie or pound of burger meat in Pulaski County," she said sort of half-apologetically as she zoomed off in the direction of the five-pound loafs of Velveeta.

Further explanation for inordinate purchasing of burgers and weenies? Ballgame food for Super Bowl parties.
