He's good enough, he's smart enough...

And doggone it, people like him. Well, the people of Minnesota liked him enough to elect Al Franken to the senate by 225 votes. It will be interesting to see how the inevitable legal challenges play out.

Legal challenges or not, I think he's in. Sure hope so.

Like the Daily & Colbert Show where they do the news as a joke and tell a lot of truth while news casters make a joke of the news and tell no truth,
I expect Franken to exercise his franking privileges and mail us some humor each week telling us what a joke Republics and Democrats
have made of legislation and policy.

I think Franken is dead serious and will be an excellent senator. And I do think he will be seated.

Franken, even as a comedy writer, has always been very informed and politically savvy. He should make a fine and serious Senator. Remember Gopher from The Love Boat (Fred Grandy) also made a fantastic Congressman and went on to run Goodwill industries. A life in comedy doesn't necessarily mean that a person is silly all the time or that they themselves are a joke.

We've had a retarded idiot in the White House for 8 years, why not a comedy writer
in the Senate?

You're kidding right? He is a comedian. Have you guys lost you every lovin common sense. He is a joke!!!!! He should blend in well with the other politicians. He also makes a joke of our government. Well, we really don't have to resolve anything so it shouldn't make a difference.

Franken is well informed and can make a point by using his sense of humor. He will make a great senator. If an actor can be President, why can't a comedian be a senator?

That actor had been governor of the state of California before becoming President and head of the SAF. What is frankenfurter done or than being a poster boy for a joke?

You keep comparing frankenfurter with people who had been governors of large states before becoming President. What are his credentials other than being a joke?

Obviously being governor of a large state doesn't quality some people to be president.
The people of Minnesota have spoken and chosen Franken to be their senator. Obviously the majority thought he was qualified and would make a better senator than the incumbent. What does it matter to you Strange? Oh, that's right it doesn't. You just want to stir the pot.

Well, the use of the term 'majority' will have to be settled by the courts. The questionable votes will most likely be reversed by the federal courts. However, many did vote for him and my respect for the people of minnesota is certaily much less than it used to be. Not only is frankenfurter a joke but so is the state of Minnesota.

We have a shot at having a Will Rogers in Congress when we need him most. Don't ya think it's odd that Will Rogers fame peeked during the great Depression of the 1930s, and now we have Franken heading for the Senate in the 2nd great Depression? I think it's some kind of Rapture-like sign, I really do.
Franken is funny, and that's fun, but he's smart funny cause he's smart. He will be a great Senator....old strangelove will have to eat his words in a year or two. I'm starting to sleep better at night already!
PS......anyone know if they've got all them damn Palestinians killed yet? Hurry damn it! Kill! Kill! Kill!

DBI, as I have said many times before at the end of obama's term it will be difficult to find anyone who voted for him---that includes you. A guy with no relevant experience will fail with the kind of problems facing us. These kind of problems would try the most experienced. He will not be able to cut it. I expect that you moonbats will do damage control by blaming Bush. Unfortunately, the non moonbat population will not tolerate that for very long and start blaming him. hillary's escapades alone will probably sink him. With bubba in tow playing his games it should get somewhat embarassing for your guy. Oh, well, you are a tough guy. You can handle it.

>>being governor of a large state doesn't quality some people to be president
what comes to mind-
Raygun, a grade B actor, paid propagandist then Guv
Jessie Ventura, a world class wrasslin champ then guv.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, an action-violent actor then guv. "Ah dey are spesheel entriss groups. We kick dere buts all da tam"
last and not least
George W. Bush...failed wildcat driller of dry holes, baseball team co-owner financed by his dad's buds then guv.
Oh, of course
Ark's own
Michael Huckabee...preacher at small baptist churches, James Robison workshop grad,
then guv.
What the fuck qualified any of these to be governors?

caroline kennedy is another one of the elites who is bored and needs something to do. I agree with you. She has no business as a Senator but it appears that she may get it. Nothing surprises me any more.
I propose that we establish a House of Lords as they do in England. We can place all of the self appointed hot shots there and anyone else that thinks they are deserving. Give them a fancy job and place to yak all day. However, don't give them any power. As long as they feel like big shots they will be satisfied. Then we can dump the caroline kennedys, frankenfurters, hillarys and anyone else.

I see no reason to think Caroline Kennedy cannot be just as effective of a senator as Hillary Clinton. She may not attend the Senate prayer meetings as Hillary did but by virtue of her work with children which parallels Hillary's and being in association with powerful and influential people as was Hillary and both hold law degrees she is just as viable to to fill the shoes of the Sec. of State-elect as anyone else.

elWood - you don't in any way shape or form believe "but by virtue of her work with children which parallels Hillary's"
I don't even think her publicists would say that, at least not in an environment where the snickers could be recorded.

Of course Norm should appeal. 25 precincts have more votes than voters, something got messed up in the counting and should be rectified. Franken demanded a recount when he was down by such a small margin. Now Frankin is up by such a small margin, obviously a further look needs to be given to the situation.
Why is it when a Republican won by such a small number of votes, he had not really won, but now that a Democrat wone by such a small number of votes...suddenly the "people have spoken".
Norm has to appeal, and the 25 precincts that had more votes than registered voters need to be researched especially in depth. Any Democrat would do the same thing and would have every right to do so.

MAK,
DemonRATS knew they'd have to cheat to win. The ends justifies the means. Democrats are the party of fraud. They know they control enough of the vote counters that they can manufacture however many votes it takes to steal an election. They did it in Washington state a couple years back. DemonRATS blocked out the observers and mysteriously found enough votes to steal the election on the third recount.

A good sense of humor is an excellent barometer of intelligence. A parody or satire often shows a depth of understanding that goes way beyond an attempt to get good laughs. Franken's wit and insight will be a breath of fresh air in the Senate.

At least with Franken, he will be a true progressive. Unlike the ass-kissing Blue Dog conservative "Democrats" elected mainly in Arkansas (M. Pryor, Lincoln) Franken is the real deal.

I just laugh in the general direction of strangelove, MAK and Severus. Why after a disasterous 8 years or rack and ruin would the Democrats have to cheat to beat the Republicans. If Americans are stupid enough to kiss the hand that's killing them for another 4 to 6 years.....may Allah help us all!
Count the votes again and again in Minnesota if you want. It's just a ploy to make sure the Democrats are down one Senator when Obama takes office and starts proposing all kinds of legislation to fix the Cheney-Bush ruination. Democrats aren't afraid to count the votes....go ahead....Franken will be the winner again and again.

Most comedians are very smart and recognize reality, that's why they are so funny. It takes work to be a comedian, so they have a very good work ethic. They also are able to look at things from outside the box, so they are great innovators and creative, coming up with solutions that are new and fresh.
We could do MUCH worse than to have more comedians in government.
