Blogging the recount in Minnesota- Coleman promises to cry in public if he loses.
They are counting the hundreds of mistakenly discarded absentee ballots in the Minnesota Senate race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman, with Franken holding a razor thin lead of 49 votes.
Come on, Norm. Be a good sport.

Do you think if Franken were on the short end of the stick he wouldn't go to court? He has already said that he would. So what is the difference here?

I have been enjoying another glorious day at Buffalo City. Friends and family have left and I am lingering until tomorrow. I have had every single window open in this cabin and have greatly enjoyed the fresh air. I have been wearing shorts and a t-shirt and have just come in from sitting on the deck and drinking a glass of wine while enjoying the sunset. I let the dogs go off-leash up here and walked them to the river so one of them could roll in the mud she dearly loves. It was warm enough to hose her off outside and let her dry and she seems happy.
The sky looks clear enough for me to view the meteor shower later this evening, if I am still awake.
So far, a good start to the New Year for me and I am thankful and grateful.

Today was a great day for the simple things in life. I pulled the 1989 Alfa Romeo out of the garage, put down the convertible top and drove my wife over to Sonic. It was warm, romantic, and nostalgic.
My car is older than the carhop who brought our order to us. She had never seen one before.

Warning: I'm about to feed the troll.
Strange, who says there has to be any difference here? So what if Franken would have gone to court? A person can still express their wish that Coleman give it up and accept the inevitable.
Grow up and quit trying to create conflicts where they don't exist.

CL, you've got me all reminiscent about float trips on the upper Buffalo. I bet your setting there on the White is just incredible. Thanks for sharing about it!
Hear any bagpipes up there? :-)

I wish the stores would respond better to sudden changes in our weather, like today. Went shopping...household crap, nothing exciting, and I thought I was going to have a heatstroke in Wal Mart. I swear the heater was on...and it was summer outside. If I hadn't needed a few last things to finish my package for my niece who's in Germany waiting for her husband to get leave from Iraq, I would've left my cart mid-shopping...damn damn damn...hot flashes are bad enough. I did get to buy some beautiful pecans from a nice woman who was selling them from her pickup. Chatting and the great pecans almost made up for heat hell.
Don't know why but I'm loving the Illinois circus...sure hope the new Senator shows up and he's barred from entry. Politics hasn't been entertaining for a long time. Go Franken, too!
I'm THRILLED every time I get to log in without spending thirty/sixty minutes cursing my innocent computer...again, thanks Max/AT for getting things working...before I digressed to juvenile temper tantrums.
What do ya have for us tonight, jazzy?? And hope the crud has gone for good.

Lovely word picture, CL, I can just see it as I picture the bagpipe player in his plaid kilt and
the camel spitting at humans over the fence.....you need to visit Garland Co. to be amazed
by the half human rednecks we put up with, I swear they belong in Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
Frenchie went to visit our former state Sen. Bud Canada today, he had to go into an
assisted living complex after last surgery failed. We come into this world helpless and go out
the same damn way.
I cooked.....had a few folks come in needing a meal and a couple dollars to tide them over....
same old same old.

No, Perplexed, no bagpipes, sadly. I would love to hear one up here, though. I did have a friend bring up a Banjola that they played and that was even better than a bagpipe.
The White is finally looking better since the late March flood. The generators are still running at Bull Shoals, but the water level has dropped and the water is clear again. The river bottom has definitely changed since the flooding, though.
I have eaten way too much while I have been here with family and friends, but I have enjoyed every single minute of it. I will just have a grilled chicken salad tonight and one more glass of wine and hope I can stay awake to see the meteor shower. Venus is incredibly bright right now under the quarter moon and I think the skies will stay clear all night.

Now, Jazzy, the camel is in Clinton. The watusi, the zebra, the water buffalo and other assorted critters are up here in Gassville. I do hope to see the camel on my way home tomorrow.
If any of you are so inclined. do check out Lurch and the herd and donate some money to the woman who is doing all she can to help save abused animals.
On the clicky.

Went over to the north side this afternoon to see Pelphrey's Hogs beat N. Texas. Great crowd (almost 16,000) and atmosphere at Alltel. These kids are really fun to watch, but they won't beat Texas next week playing like they did today. Got coughed and sneezed on incessantly by an old gal sitting right behind me, and almost died when a spray from her hit the back of my neck. Hope I'm not on my deathbed by Monday with whatever she has. Why th' hell don't sick people stay home?
jazzy, sorry to hear about Bud Canada. Like all old people, he deserves better. He was a good 'un in his day: Always appreciated what he tried to do about the sales tax on groceries. CammackLife, I'm envious. Sounds like the good life up there. Hope to be speaking from my own Buffalo City experience soon. Cheers to all on this fine Saturday night. Still 65 degrees in LR town.

Zelda, I don't know if you were in the same Walmart I was, but it was HOT in there. I was on the phone with my son at one point and told him they must have the heat on.
I enjoyed the game today too, but from the comfort of my chair in front of the TV. Thought about trying to get tickets for today's game after they beat Oklahoma the other night but figured if there were any left, they were in the nosebleed section. It would have been nice to be there to see them win in Alltel--they've lost when I've gone to see them there in the past.
Great story Slingerland

Durango:
I can't wait to hear your report from Buffalo City and whether or not you like it here. If you stay at White Buffalo, be sure and tell the owners I said hello.
The stars are brightly shining, but no meteor sightings yet.

Well, dang it all. The meteor showers were to have occurred THIS morning and not this evening. That's just me: a day late and a dolllar short.
I went online to check the best time and place for viewing and discovered I missed it. Maybe next year then.

Slingerland - I'm envious. Just parked my '79 SL a month or two ago after 20 years of driving. Would have loved to be out driving around today with the top down.
Cammack - walking just one dog today was quite nice. Took a leisurely stroll through the seminary.

We visited the White River today, the portion below Beaver Dam. It was near devastated by last year's heavy rains which caused massive releases of water from Beaver Lake. Old terrain was no longer recognizable. Parts of the river were filled in with upstream gravel.
Later enjoyed a fine meal in Eureka Springs at "Local Flavor"- me, grilled Mahi-mahi with lime/dill
and she a filet mingon with blu cheese based sauce. Service was good. Prices were moderate.
Noted several diners enjoying meals on the wrap-around deck.
Catching "Little Miss Sunshine" on TV tonight. One of the funniest movies ever made.

Goof:
I take it then that you have more than one dog you normally walk. Why only one today?
Do we know each other in the real world?
I do love that stroll through the seminary myself. I am always tempted to walk my dogs through the "No dogs allowed" posted neighborhood when I get up that way, however. I have managed to control myself so far and stayed out.

We are in the process of updating our house, so it's been painting, sanding, building, sawdust, new kitchen, etc. for a while. Today we kicked back and watched the Hogs game, and now we are cheering for the Colts. Sweet.
Supper was a pot of beans and ham with fried potatoes and cornbread. Yummy.

Ah, cato...another great one. For a time I thought hubby/me were two of about 20 people who hated the crap FAUX News sold us...until I watched the war protests. Those wonderful American activists were rightly protesting FAUX News as much as the war. God bless em!
I was in the Wal-Mart on Dave Ward Drive, never vote republican...hotter than any old woman hot flash!
Ah, kizzy, you're cooking my kind of food..,.yum! Though I'd toss in some sweet onions and some greens with pepper vinegar.
