Obama adds gay bishop

New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, who is gay, will deliver a prayer at the Lincoln Memorial inaugural event. Not the inauguration itself, where Rick Warren will pray. Robinson said he doesn't believe he was added on account of his and others' criticism of Warren's inclusion, but says it will be noticed by those who support gay rights. Yes and a few others, I'd guess. The DOG Anglican schismatics should be barking shortly.

Well...it's better than nothing! Most of the time there isn't anything wrong with putting some grease on the squeaky wheel. I can understand Obama not picking a gay minister to go yada yada at his inaugural, but picking Rev. Rick was going too far in the opposite direction. Now there is some balance to it and just maybe this kind of stuff won't happen in the next 4 years.

PS wonder if there will be a single Palestinian alive in Gaza on Inauguration Day? Jesus saves....just not on the Gaza Strip, huh. Tell me again which of these warring groups love Jesus? I think the answer is ZERO. So please...no bumper stickers, Kill a Palestinian For Christ.

Well...where's the woman? Heck, a gay woman preacher would've gotten two lefty birds with one token stone. (Though it's gonna be fun to hear from all those Warren supporters who chided us lefties for our criticisms of Warren's bigotry.) Sheesh, we didn't even get to the front of the line before we started going backwards...AGAIN. Time to get out my 'I believe Anita' pin...and all my other feminist bitch pins that I'd relegated to the back of my closet.

Welll...LOL!

I don't know how to "rank" the various involvements, but a woman will deliver the sermon at the National Prayer Service the day after the inauguration, the NYT reports (at the link) :

"Ms. (Sharon)(Watkins, the first woman ever selected to lead the service, is the president and general minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a small, liberal-leaning Protestant denomination with 3,754 congregations and about 690,000 members in the United States and Canada. Ms. Watkins was elected to the post in 2005, the first woman ever chosen to lead a mainline Protestant denomination,

...
Ms. Watkins has spoken out against torture and the war in Iraq, but as church president she has not taken a position on same-sex marriage. Like many mainline Protestant churches, the Disciples is not unified on the issue. As a congregational church, each church in the denomination is free to set its own policies.

Ms. Watkins said in a telephone interview that the church in Bartlesville, Okla., where she served as minister before becoming president, could not reach a consensus on whether to allow gay union ceremonies and decided to hold off on a decision.

"We really emphasize the responsibility as well as the freedom of individuals within the church to study Scripture to prayerfully pursue their own spiritual journey," Ms. Watkins said. "That means we end up being incredibly diverse politically, theologically and socially."

The woman gets to deliver the message! Go Girl. On the clicky.

Guess I'll set my Anita pin aside for awhile so I can digest this good news. Thanks for the info, tap, g.

God...that Rev. Watkins had to do time in Bartlesville, OK is enough to make me like her. B'ville is where Stepford Wives originated. It's a very creepy town full of station wagons with fake wood trim on the sides and 2.3 children per Christian couple. They have gay marriage in Bartlesville too. Yeah, lots of gay men had to marry women in order to keep their jobs with Phillips 66. I am so happy I'll never have to set foot in B'ville ever again......praise Allah!

I'm a female minister(straight one that is) and still I don't understand how he became a minister being gay in the first place. But I guest the is nothing knew here. There are a lot of things going on that I'm almost sure JESUS himself would not approve of . And we wonder why the world is in a mess.

Welcome Reverend Tucker,

Do you have a direct line to Jesus and all his preferences?

Do you, like our soon to be ex-president, hear voices in your head?

Other than what others said that Jesus taught here is what we have that directly expresses
the thoughts of Jesus:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall possess the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5: 3-12

Additionally-

Matthew 18:3 "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 18:4 "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child, will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

.

Dragging religion (any religion) into the public elements of a presidential inauguration is despicable.

It's the constitution's day... and an oath to protect and defend it which matters most.

Well Rev. Tucker, if you were a member of my church, southern baptist, you couldn't be a

preacher either, gay or straight.........being female would ban you from the boy's club.........

couldn't be a deacon either.

The Jesus I know doesn't ban anyone.

You're, once again, right, jazzy. In fact...no church I grew up in (Catholic) or married into (Southern Baptist) will allow a woman any role other than a 'support her man' one.

So hat's off to Ms. Estella for breaking the barrier...and in Oklahoma ta boot (not exactly a bastion of open-mindedness).

Ah, eureka...'it's just a piece of paper'...whereas religion trumps everything because...the dominant heterosexual males say so.

DBI said: "They have gay marriage in Bartlesville too. Yeah, lots of gay men had to marry women in order to keep their jobs with Phillips 66. I am so happy I'll never have to set foot in B'ville ever again......praise Allah."

Sorry to hear that you had to get a sham marriage. That explains a lot. At least you got to attend the Men's poker nights.

Wrong again Sev! I never lived in Bartlesville, I was forced to visit my mother in law who lived there and helped sing Happy Birthday to Frank Phillips each year even though he's been dead since 1950. The good news is that my mother in law is dead! Er...I mean, the good news is that I don't ever have to visit Bartlesville again!
