Panetta to CIA
Former Clinton White House chief of staff Leon Panetta is Obama's pick to head the CIA, the New York Times is reporting. The Times says Panetta is an "unusual choice to lead the C.I.A., an agency that has been unwelcoming to previous directors perceived as outsiders, such as Stansfield M. Turner and John M. Deutch. But his selection points up the difficulty Mr. Obama had in finding a C.I.A. director with no connection to controversial counterterrorism programs of the Bush era."

I'll take a little humor mixed in with all the destruction/stealing. Throw in some competence and...the crooks will be light years ahead of Monkeyboy's incompetent humorless torturing crooks. I love silver linings.

Another important appointment is the Office of Legal Counsel. Dawn Johnson.
Former ALCU lawyer, Yale Law school grad, former OLC member under Clinton, current professor of law at Indiana University & long time bush critic on torture, spying, etc.
One comment from the article states: "She's become a true expert on executive power and, specifically, the role and obligation of the OLC in restricting presidential decisions to their lawful scope".
Hey that sounds good to me
Clik my name to read the article.

I want honest and smart, in that order. As FK'ed up as our CIA has been for a decade, honest and smart will be like a miracle on earth. Hurray for Al Franken! Seat the black guy from Illinois! Make Israel hurry up with their extermination of the Palestinians! Slow is cruel, fast is humane! Get it over with before Bush has to pretend to notice and doubles US aid to Israel in response.

DBI,
You conveniently ignore the fact that Hamas has been attacking Israel for a long time - sending countless rockets and suicide bombers into Israel. Israel is being as careful as possible to avoid casualties, but Hamas uses women and children as human shields. Israel has every right to do what they're doing.

Even if we could agree that Israel has the "right" to kill multiple Palestinians for every Israeli the Palestinians kill, it's simply stupid to think that this will do anything to stop the bloodshed. Violence only begets violence. Killing Palestinians only increases the level of hate - on both sides - and makes peace that much more elusive. I think it's fair to say that that Israelis don't really want peace. They have placed the Palestinaian people in ghettos, removed them from their own land, and cut them off from any realistic economic opportunities. Then they are upset when the Palestinians try to fight back.
Imagine if China came and took our country and placed all the ethnic minorities they don't like here, gave them our property, equipped them with all the latest modern weapons, and made us live in specific small areas enclosed with 25-foot high walls, barbed wire, and guard towers. That's what it's like to live as a Palestinian. I've been there and seen it. The Israelis have done exactly the same thing to the Palestinians that the Europeans did to them for hundreds of years - ghetto-ize them.

Severus....what's wrong...I've finally come over to your side. Murder every Palestinian man, woman and child so that wingnut Americans can have their biblical prophecy fulfilled so they can sleep at night and feel sure their worthless asses will be transported to heaven when they die. Murder them, but be quick about it man!

DBI,
But there's where you are wrong. Israel is not trying to kill every man, woman, and child. They are going after the Hamas leaders. They are destroying the underground tunnels that are used to smuggle weapons. It would be much easier if they did just wipe out the place.

You conveniently ignore the fact that Israel has been occupying Palestine land since
1949.
Bush did his usual lies and promised a homeland for the Palestinians but nothing more.
I bet you thought it was awful when Sioux, Apache, Cheyenne, Crow, Blackfeet, Comanche, Pawnee, and other tribes attacked English and Spanish settlers for taking their lands too.
Maybe the Palestinians can be herded into reservations and given food stamps for the rest of
their lives.

(CNN) -- The Twitter accounts of President-elect Barack Obama, CNN anchor Rick Sanchez, Britney Spears, Fox News and 29 others were hacked Monday according to the microblog site, leading to false and inappropriate messages being posted on their accounts
First Fox News Twitter followers read a false message about Bill O'Reilly's sexuality Monday morning after hackers launched several attacks.
Then came the attack on pop princess Britney Spears private parts.
CNN anchor Rick Sanchez, who uses Twitter on his TV show to interact with the audience, also fell victim to the scam, when a hacker posted about drugs on his account.

I don't know why you didn't nominate hillary for President. You pretty much have a repeat of the clinton administration with all of obama's appointments. Clinton II----I wonder if Monica will get a call?

Look, get your facts straight. The arabs left Palestine voluntarily when the state of Israel was formed. They were asked to stay by the Jews but they refused. Don't distort history it is too easy to check the facts on this. The Arabs hate the Jews and the only state position that they have taken since the state of Israel was formed was 'death for the Jews'. The Arabs hate the Jews and they hate the United States. Possibly you don't fit in any of these two groups so you identify with a group that wants to kill us. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Obama will have two key cabinet positions run by people who have absolutely no relevant experience---hillary and panetta. Fortunately, he will have a very experienced Secretary of Defense and NSA head.

"The arabs left Palestine voluntarily when the state of Israel was formed. "
What a flaming load of horse shit! Now...let me get this straight. The Allied powers after WWII divide up Palestinian land and give it to the new state of Israel and those pissy Palestinians get made and march off in a huff. Did they take their football with them as the left?
What a flaming load of horse shit. Hey you guys...hurry up and murder all the Palestinians and let's get some peace going on in this world. Sorry ole Paleies....you gotta die so Israel can live on your land in peace. Then Hagee can become the Christian King of Texas. What a FK'ing shame this is.
The tragedy of the people of Palestine is that their country was "given" by a foreign power to another people for the
creation of a new state. The result was that many hundreds of thousands of innocent people were made permanently
homeless. With every new conflict their numbers increased. How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle
of wanton cruelty? It is abundantly clear that the refugees have every right to the homeland from which they were driven,
and the denial of this right is at the heart of the continuing conflict. No people anywhere in the world would accept being
expelled en masse from their own country; how can anyone require the people of Palestine to accept a punishment which
nobody else would tolerate? A permanent just settlement of the refugees in their homeland is an essential ingredient of any
genuine settlement in the Middle East. We are frequently told that we must sympathise with Israel because of the suffering
of the Jews in Europe at the hands of the Nazis. [...] What Israel is doing today cannot be condoned, and to invoke the
horrors of the past to justify those of the present is gross hypocrisy.

Well, if they are looking for a place to live they are surrounded by Arabs. Why don't they go live with their brother Arabs? They have lots of oil money and plenty of land. Let's remember that the UN (your beloved organization) gave Palestine to the Jews. The Jews asked the Arabs to stay where they currently were. The Arabs said they would not live in a state with the Jews and proceeded to kill the Jews. The condition that the Arabs are in today is a direct result of several invasions of a sovereign state. It is only because Israel was able to defend itself that it exists today----no thanks to the Arabs.

Of all Obama's decisions since the election, this one may be my favorite - at least so far. I would never have thought of Panetta in this position, but DAMN! I like it!!

California Senator Dianne Feinstein wasn't too impressed with Obama's choice, and has said that she's inclined to not support Panetta.
She commented that she wasn't too happy with the precedent of politicizing the CIA. Essentially she said that Panetta was incompetent for the position. Perhaps Obama needs to get Senator Biden out of the closet and involve him in some decisions.
