Set 'em up

The legislature's hearing from Speaker Robbie Wills and shortly I'll link his important committee leadership decisions.

Meanwhile, you might be wanting to figure where to go to watch the lawmakers guzzle free drinks and chicken nuggets.

The much improved legislative website includes a handy link to the social calendar. The wining and dining never really stop, but with the General Assembly in session, you can't keep the throwdowns straight without a scorecard. The Propane Gas Association got things underway last night with a reception for the new speaker at the Wyndham in NLR. Today, UCA (?where'd they get the money?) and the Conway Chamber have booked the Clinton Library this afternoon and for those who want to keep the buzz going, the Wholesale Beer Distributors provide further evening fun at Next Level Events.

I see no mention of a bus to Oaklawn for the track's opening day, but somehow I figure anybody who'd like to go probably won't need one of those coveted racing passes to get in.

Bon appetit!

PS -- New bill filings today include the appropriation to pay the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Read it for individual salaries (governor's pay rises to $87,352, plus house, etc., next year.)

Chicken Nuggets?!!!

That lobbyist would never see another solon.

But what if they're Nuggets from Chick-fila? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Lessee here, ChikFila nuggets or Sonny Williams steak uhhhh, errrrm ...

Still, the new site is a huge improvement over the old one. It's actually responsive enough to surf w/o knowing the exact bill number, just to browse the zaniness, e.g. Faris' SJR3 AMENDING THE ARKANSAS CONSTITUTION TO CREATE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO HUNT, FISH, TRAP, AND HARVEST GAME.

I'm sure there are sheriffs and prosecuting attorneys who're just slavering at the chops in anticipation of jailing some trapper or hunter if that amendment isn't adopted. The tree hugger in me is glad they've gone to electronic bill filing. I'd shudder at the idea of wasting a tree for that drivel.

Wait.wait ...wait wait...What was that thread on the AT Blog just the other day about making it illegal for our legislators to accept even a cup of coffee from a lobbyist? And here is this list of 2 months worth of free food and entertainment....2 MONTHS WORTH! Jesus H. Christ....it's better than being Andy Williams personal house guest in Branson!

Do they not list the hookers and blow on this spread sheet? Oh I guess not. But buddy...you know there there too. Tell me this....do any of you on this blog get free anything? How often do you get a free BBQs thrown in your honor. When has the Arkansas Propane folks given you a ball point pen? What has the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce done for you lately? Do you have 2 months of fun free activities ahead for you? Well hell no!

Look...we got our panties in a big wad over Governor Blago who was trying to auction off Obama's seat in the Senate to the highest bidder. Well...that's just everyday business in American politics. The other folks call it a campaign contribution is all. And here our legislature is fixing to run the gauntlet of 2 months of parties and dinners...in other words auctioning off what they can do to the highest bidder. I'm thinking Gov. Blago ain't so rotten after all. Old baby maker John Edwards was right......there are 2 Americas.....and none of us are in the upper echelon. Disgusting is what it is!
