UA tuition going up

So says Chancellor Gearhart.

Comments

"Tuition has increased between 4 percent and 8 percent annually since 2000."
TMN

That's an average annual increase of 6%. Much higher than the increase in cost of living.

The Moron News noticeably makes no mention of admin/faculty pay raises. Nor do the morons
ever examine how top heavy the UA has become relative to other state universities.

Finally, are they anticipating a larger influx of well-financed students from Lt. Gov Halter's successful scholarship lottery?

.

Hold on...I think this is math I can do! If the increase has been 6% a year, averaging things out, that means the cost of tuition at the U of A has increased 48% since 2000. Have you or I had a 48% increase in our salary since 2000? No, if anything we're making less now than we did 8 years ago.

I'm not sure how we're going to pay my daughter's tuition next week at UAFS. We got 1500 bucks in the savings account, but her tuition at UAFS is about 2200 per semester, with her living at home, and that's not counting about 500 dollars worth of books that might be worth 100 bucks when she goes to sell them, if we're lucky.

I guess she won't die if we can't make it this semester, but once a kid skips a semester it's usually hard to get them to go back to school. She might graduate in 2009 with a degree in drama....which pretty much guarantees she'll live at home with us forever....but..it's OK...we likes her!

I say it's time the U of A tightens its belt and takes one on the chin. If half their students can't return to school because of our financial crisis, they're going to have to come up with a new plan anyway. I thought Gearhart was smarter than this. By all means let's get that damn lottery going!
