Counting heads

Roby Brock at Talk Business figures the House votes for the tobacco tax at 74, one short of the number needed. Pressure time to find that final vote. Blago would know what to do in this circumstance, ya think?

In all the talk of House machinations, I haven't seen anything yet re the count in the Senate. Can Pro Tem Johnson deliver most of the Brotherhood, minus Gilbo of course, and Beebe round up the Otherhood? Every Dem will do it, right?

Comments

Let's all be honest with ourselves about what we're REALLY talking about here:
Beebe wants the taxpayers to pay for an $88 million piece of his legacy.

If I wanted an asshole for Governor, I would've voted for Asa! Hindsight is 20/20, but re-election is 2010. ;)

In the current economic climate, do we really need to add another tax? Shelf it and when/if the economy comes back around re-submit. That would be like throwing $100 mil on renovating the airport when passenger numbers are declining. Oh, wait a minute?

I'm sorry, but the argument that "we can't raise the tobacco tax in a tough economy" is a load of dung. If we were going to raise income taxes or business taxes, sure, but tobacco taxes? gimme a break.
