Keep your powder dry

The frenzied e-mails about an appearance by the ERA in House committee today were for naught. It did not come up. More time to organize the troops.

On Monday, February 16, Arkansas Times blogger Max Brantley, jeopardized
the privacy rights of every person with a concealed carry permit in
Arkansas by publishing a complete list of permit holders in the
Razorback State.

The link to the list was later removed after some protest but on
Tuesday, February 24, an anonymous website was created that allows the
visitor to search for any Right-to-Carry permit holder in the state.
Both of these sources have been removed at the time of this posting, but
this remains a threat for all gun owners in Arkansas.

In response to this abuse, State Representative Randy Stewart (D-23) has
introduced House Bill 1623, legislation that would prohibit outlets or
individuals from publishing records in the future that open gun owners
up to identity theft and persecution for their Second Amendment rights.
Currently, HB 1623 is in the House Judiciary Committee where a hearing
has yet to be scheduled.

Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee TODAY and
respectfully urge them to support this crucial piece of legislation.

ARK. BLOG: You've had two bites at the apple Little Red. Subsequent repetitive posts will have to go on your own blog.

What little red, are you ashamed that you've got to pack heat to feel safe? To the shame, you need to add stupid. I bet you have a small you know what!

little red, I want to thank you for providing the commitee members' names. You saved me the time in locating that information, because I do have something to tell them.

You will not be happy to know that I am urging them to NOT support this legislation.

Yes, thanks (Cry Me A) Little Red River. I appreciate the leg work on providing us with this list!

p.s. Buh-bye!

Damn! Next thing you know women will want to vote and drive automobiles and even own property. What in the heck is this country coming to?

I'm still trying to figure out how Max jeopardized anything by revealing records that are public. It's on the order of letting the cat out of the bag that all males in Arkansas possess a penis. What shocking news!

What Max did manage to undercover is how many frightfully paranoid people we're living next door to. Holy Christ on the cross...who knew there was so many people scared to death of every dawning day? I will look at my neighbors differently from now on. If Max wanted to jeopardize, he could have published a link to a list showing the people in Arkansas WITHOUT a gun. That would really jeopardize a bunch of defenseless people.

But if I ever had any ideas of attacking anyone, a sign in their yard saying Beware of Dog would have slowed me down. As much as I think littlered deserves a smack, knowing he or she has a gun hidden around sure enough stops that idea. Think Red.....people knowing you have a gun is not a bad thing. People knowing America has nukes hasn't been a bad thing. Put your little mind demons back in the closet and think about how absurd your argument is. And while you're at it, think how unconstitutional House Bill 1623 is. Don't waste our legislator's time......they got freebies to suck up.

And don't be afraid of the ERA amendment either. When it was first proposed the main argument against it was OH MY GOD...IT WILL PUT WOMEN INTO BATTLE. I got news for you sport....women are in battle and lots of their ground up bodies have returned to our shores from Iraq in body bags to prove it. There are zero reasons to oppose the passage of the ERA amendment. Of course wife beaters and cheap-ass employers will be against it, who will stand with them?

Let's be sane, let's be adult, and lets be modern in our thinking. Big FK'ing deal you have a gun....so do I. And anyone against the passage of the ERA is a creep. Come on 21st century! Arkansas is waiting for ya!

My weapon may be concealed, but the fact that I carry one is not...SO WHAT?!

Note: If you carry a knife 3 inches long, you are required to have a Weapon Permit.

OK...evidently I haven't been paying enough attention, but why did Max remove the list and why was the anonymous website removed/whatever? Who the hell are these folks who wield so much power and think they are exempt from the public information laws that apply to the rest of us? Those who legally carry concealed weapons are not a privileged class that gets exemptions from laws regarding openness/public information.

Given much of the discussion regarding this issue, I'm beginning to believe there needs to be MORE openness, not less, attached to people whom we grant the privilege of carrying a concealed weapon amongst us.

As soon as I read the last two posts, I quickly got out a ruler and measured my...

knife.

Thanks, LittleRed for being so little. I've already contacted my legislator and not in the way you suggested. Public records should be..... Pub-lic.

Thanks for the list so I can encourage them NOT to support the legislation.

Your privacy rights end at my right to know of state-licensed Wyatt Earp-wannabees.

Not to mention the second amendment, which is a lot firmer than the nebulous "right to privacy," which if you cared anything about you'd have applied the same passion against the GOP.

Little red, are you stupid or ignorant? Do you know the difference? I have kids and I have a right to know who I live next door to, work with or sit near in a restuarnt who may be packiing a pistol. I emailed the Arkansas State Police when this story broke. I have a cd waiting for me at ASP headquarters that will cost me one dollar. I suggest everyone get a copy. By the way, they were very nice about the request and the only question asked was where I lived for mailing purposes. So for the lists to be removed is a mystery to me.

A quick google search of litte red's text reveals it's from a post at the NRA web site ( clicky or)

http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=4476

My word for the is going to be "Wimp"

What a bunch of wimps these people are.

Shooting the first amendment is one extremely dumb and self defeating way to pretend like you are defending the second amendment. This should have never been about the press... and because the dangerous and idiotic bill is designed that way it should never see the light of day on the floor of the legi.

Folks in the MoveOn thread shouted down the left extremism without citing one example... but I can say this type of extremism from the NRA is exactly why I (a gun totin' liberal) am not a member of the extreme right NRA.

If you don't want you concealed registration info to be public... then tell the NRA to author a constitutionally sound bill. Make the government keep it private... or better yet.. make the government not ask for such info in the first place. But don't continue to ignore or attack the rest of our liberties due to knee jerk reactions. The press has a duty to report and it should do so.

And pass the ERA.. Time for AR to enter the second half of the twentieth century.

Arkie Ledgers know that to protect their 3-inches, they GOTTA keep them wimmins down. You wonder what part of "ALL" they don't get!!!

Posted by: MadCat

I take it you failed that question on the test. The only weapon legal for AR citizens to carry concealed is a handgun. The 3 classes of weapons recognized in AR: firearm, knife & club. Under no circumstance can a knife or club be carried concealed legally. A knife of over 3 inches in blade length is illegal, concealed or no. None of the above applies to law enforcement agents or good old boys, as they are above the law.

"The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer." Henry Kissinger

DBI....all males in Ark have a peni,,,some just a whole lot more others a ton less...

I call the latter group, *3 inchers.*

Take the little red river post down Max. Enough is enough.

They've harassed you and threatened you in your home and I assume your office.
Giving them this space is too much.

ARK. BLOG: I gave him his shot. And a second one. And now he's gone.
