Proctor loses at Supreme Court
It wasn't reported in the Arkansas Supreme Court's weekly report of decisions, but the court yesterday denied a request for a writ of certiorari from Circuit Judge Willard Proctor to stop next month's hearing by the state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission. He's been ordered to show cause why he should not be disciplined for numerous irregularities in operation of the Cycle Breakers probation program he started.
A docket sheet entry shows, however, that Proctor's petition was denied without prejudice. That means he could appeal. Justice Elana Wills did not participate. The case remains under seal, so the nature of his arguments to stop the hearing and those of the discipline panel are not known. The denial presmably means the disciplinary hearing will go forward.

This just makes me sad.
Living up here in the hills, and therefore being entirely bereft of, you know, information, I am entirely willing to believe that Judge Proctor was initially motivated by the entirely admirable motive of keeping those who did not deserve prison free.
What the last 28 years of voodoo economics has taught us is that access to money seduces even the (nearly) most virtuous, and that no one is so foolish about money as a rich man.
The worst result of the embarassment would be that harmless folks should be imprisoned.

I'd imagine the Proctor still thinks he's doing right by his probationers, I bet some of them even support everything he's doing. And I'm not really convinced that he's been personally profiting from these outrages.
The problem is that he's set himself outside the law, answerable to no one and no one has the ability to review his decisions.

THAT, Razorbabies, is all you need to know about Proctor.
He's FIGHTING all this -- the investigation -- the charges -- EVERYTHING.
Anybody with nothing to hide would be an open book.
Proctor's a crook who's been caught.
Expose him publicly, fully, and get rid of him.

Hopefully, the Supremes (minus Justice Wills, who is married to the former Deputy Director of the JDDC) have seen all of the crap from Judge Proctor they care to see. If this type of behavior by a sitting Circuit Judge is allowed to continue, then the rest of us will need all the help we can find.
