Not many were shocked when Curtis Lavelle Vance was found guilty last week of capital murder, rape, residential burglary and theft of property in the October 2008 beating death of KATV anchor Anne Pressly.

MO' MONEY, RAZORBABIES!
I, Norma Bates, Blogger From Another World, confirm - straight from a Centennial Bank horse's mouth:
Why did Centennial Bank President Chris Roberts cash his stock options and resign immediately following their last audit?
Because he's a good guy. He wanted to stick it through that last audit for his Centennial team, before bailing for morale's sake. Let's just say Chris was less than enchanted with Centennial's current owners, who already ran off Exec Veep John Olaimey.
And because Wells Fargo is buying Centennial.
Chris' future plans? Let's just say he has a LOYAL team with which to start another bank.
Just sayin'.

Heard of ANY new bank start-ups lately? Anywhere in Ark? Anywhere in the USA?

Good God, the last thing we need is more banks. When the best and the brightest started getting MBAs in Finance and working on Wall Street, the end was in sight. We need engineers, scientists, professors, teachers -- people who contribute something tangible. An artist contributes more to society than a stockbroker. We could reduce the number of lawyers and MBAs by 50% in this country and the GDP would increase. And I say that as someone with an MBA.

my grandmother told me that in 1929 there were over 30 banks in this little bitty (it was then) community and the even smaller mining towns next door to us. Now we just have one on every street corner or so it seems.
I have a problem. I can't find anywhere to send this hamburger meat that some evil person left on my front porch in little balls for Fred and the Bride of Fred last week to have it analyzed. Will be glad to pay. Any ideas?
thanks.

Tina -
Yadda, yadda, yadda about the banks.
What's important is determining who left poisoned meat on your front porch for your pets.
Let me ask you a question.
Who is the FIRST person or persons to come to mind?
According to Gavin De Becker's book, "The Gift of Fear" -- a highly worthwhile read -- THAT'S the person or persons. (His is hardly the only tome on this subject: just one of the best.)
Go after this with all the legal resources at your financial command.
Don't stop unless you have to, financially.

Have you asked your vet, or any vet, where they would send it, and if they would send it for you?
Please keep your babies safe.

Had a dog poisoned when I was just a lad and off at camp. Vet identified it as strychnine (sp?) poisoning based on symptoms. Not sure there is any testing available. Just be glad you found it and look around the neighborhood at possible suspects. Talk to neighborhood friends about it.
Not paranoid, just the way to look at it.

"Can UCA still (not that they really ever could) afford commercials? I saw one (without Lu) this evening on channel 4."
Generally, 'affordability' doesn't interfere with a government agency's desire to spend money.
It's an evil bastard who resorts to anonymous animal abuse to settle scores with a human. Take care, tina...and set up a camera, if possible.

Tina,
Not sure...but try Atoka. Or maybe it's Itoka. Something like that...four or five letters and it starts with a vowel. Anyway, they have a little lab behind the La Qunita off Interstate 30 near SW Hospital. You'll see it. They test stuff for germs. Maybe they can test for toxins or poisons too.

Anyone have any idea of what's become of BlackWater now that THE agent of change
sits in the White House? Still funded? Still getting cost-plus contracts?
wondering.
Olberman reports tonite that Obama is protecting Bush and Darth Cheney from criminal prosecution due to Cheney-controlled death squads and torture.
Cheney also attempted to betray Obama to Israelies just prior to Obama taking office.

Blackwater is now Xe. They lost their U.S. license to operate in Iraq and the State Department did not renew their contract for securiyt according to TPM.
Surprised you missed it, "L." They claim to be moving into training. Clik

Tina,
You may not find a forensic laboratory capable of checking for all poisons in Arkansas and it may not be cheap.
They may be able to test for strychnine or other common poisons, but the banned carbofuran or Furadan and other subtle, but deadly pesticides, while banned, may n0t be unattainable.

Blackwater changed their name to "Xe". Bet they have plenty of drug running contracts from the Afghan poppy fields and dawG knows what else. I think Iraq really did run them out of their country... as should we, the weak willed Americans.
fyi, Bob Dylan has a new free mp3 out today... free for 24 hours.. so hurry! (clicky)

Thanks for the Dylan download, Springs.
I thought it was a Tom Waits cover for a moment. Rather similar, certainly.

Meanwhile, here's what they're saying (and agreeing with me) about Bob's free song on the Internets:
"Beyond" has just a hint of Eric Clapton's cover of Otis Rush's classic "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)" from Clapton's time with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. It's a blues joint with some mariachi trumpet, organ, and accordion.
From some tweeter: RT @mcnitt: Free Bob Dylan MP3 download http://bobdylan.com (via @emilychang). Is it me or is Dylan slowly turning into Tom Waits? by AgileActivist 23 hours ago
From some Eurosnob: The accordion as a rhythmic element and the trash-can blues trumpet are striking, and might otherwise suggest a similarity to Tom Waits - although Dylan sings much less theatrically and isn't angling for an effect.

I love Wait's; but I for the life of me I can't understand a word he sings....ever. Even after I read lyrics I'm often scratching my head sayin' i just don't hear those words.
Been recommending Jeremy Scahill's book around these parts for three or so years... Goof is right.

Thanks doc. I had not kept up. Been ill of sorts for almost a month, slow recovery.
Again, NWA's Donna Hutchinson is the Salvation Lady, saving Arkies from
paying out QUEER MONEY:
>>In an 83-11 vote, the House approved House Bill 2105 by Rep. Johnnie Roebuck, D-Arkadelphia, which would allow a public employee such as a police officer or firefighter to choose who would receive death benefits in the event he or she is killed in the line of duty. Under current law, the benefits must go to the person's spouse and/or children. ....
Rep. Jim Nickels, D-Sherwood, spoke against the bill.
"An officer could give the money to somebody other than his family, other than his wife, other than his children, and I think that makes this particular piece of legislation anti-family," he said.
Rep. Donna Hutchinson, R-Bella Vista, said that under the bill, death benefits could go to a person's "mistress" or "secret same-sex partner."
Roebuck said she is willing to trust law enforcement officers and firefighters with the decision.<<
Only in the 49th state. If ONLY it didn't suck so badly.

"There is a crying, desperate need for some of the services that these people provide," said Alex Yearsley, the head of special projects at Global Witness, a London-based human rights group. "There's no question they can do it. It's a question of when you're going to have a questionable regime hiring these people to kick out indigenous communities or [gain access to] mining areas. That's when it gets problematic."
