Any citizen of the US can get in state tuition if they have been in the state long enough. Graduating an Arkansas high school pretty much proves they met that requirement.

Are we not talking people who have lived in Arkansas long enough to qualift?

This is a legitimate question please, since I'm not very close to the illegal immigrant issue. Senator Madison says that illegal immigrants pay taxes too. My question is: what taxes does she refer to?

Sales tax, certainly... probably excise taxes on utilities as well (unless a landlord is paying the utilities.) But how does an illegal immigrant pay income tax, Medicare tax, Social Security tax without a valid Social Security number? Even the IRS computer system... not well known for it's quality... will reject a FICA payment posted in error.

So I'm trying to figure out what Madison is talking about.

Believe it or not, illegals can and do file income tax forms. Why not, they don't have to report all of their income and they can receive earned income tax credits. Who would have thought that illegals could get tax credits and get huge refunds? The IRS will issue a taxpayer id and will not turn the illegal in to immigration services. Illegals want to have proof that they have been in the country so that they will be elligible when Obama grants them citizenship. One way to do so is to pay taxes on some token portion of your wages. Since many illegals are paid in cash, its simple enough to underreport income and get credit for time in the US for future citizenship.

The question is why don't we offer a visiting worker program - WITHOUT citizen benefits to all of the Mexicans who want to work here? They certainly need the jobs, and we need the workers. We need to find people to pay into social security, which is essentially bankrupt, without drawing out benefits in the future. We need illegals to pay a tax similar in size to the social security and medicare taxes without offering the benefits, since our government is broke. The Mexicans need a legal guest worker program so that they are documented, tracked, and pay their fair share of taxes. If they want to bring their kids and put them in schools, I have no problem provided they have legal status to be here and are working.

Thanks Severus... I wouldn't have believed the IRS would issue a taxpayer ID without checking the immigration status but that seems about as "brilliant" as anything else the IRS does. And you stated your views on Mexican guest workers very well, my views are similar. You're right, if they're here, they need to be paid according to the law, and pay taxes according to the law.

If I were Obama, I would be tempted to do a few things:

1) Bring home the troops and create a "wall of marines" to seal the border. Right now the border has more gaps than a pair of thigh-high fishnets. We've got to stopteh drug wars from continuing to cross the border.

2) Issue a blanket amnesty to any illegal currently in the country, provided they report to INS and start getting legal. I would provide MANDATORY English classes to those who needed them.

3) Prosecute the hell out of any employer who knowlingly hired illegals and paid under the table.

4) Embarrass Congress into FIXING our broken immigration law. The law as written now is simply stupid, but Congress doesn't have any backbone to fix it.

But that's just me (grin.)

If the utilities and property taxes are paid by the landlord, they're in the rent paid by the tenant. As far as income tax, etc. they simply use a valid SS number.

If they're paid in cash, that's a different type of problem since it is the employer playing games with his or her own tax liabilities.

I am so glad that you seek answers in the Scriptures, for the point towards the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Their wisdom is from a Higher Source than men can find in themselves.

That said, one must accurately handle the Word of Truth. The meaning of the word "alien" in this passage is "invited guest". Feel free to look it up in your paper Strong's Concordance. In other places it is made even clearer, for it commands the children of Israel to be kind to aliens because THEY were aliens in the land of Egypt. They were invited guests whom their hosts later turned on and oppressed.

I didn't realize that illegal aliens were supposed to have the same rights as legal citizens. Smart countries have immigration policies to benefit themselves. No one said that it's fair that some people lived in an inferior country with fewer opportunities.

We have skilled foreigners who go through the legal channels to gain citizenship. It is a long and arduous procedure with hefty legal fees and lots of paperwork. They are required to undergo medical exams and pass tests. It is still a privilege to earn US citizenship. Allowing illegals the same status as those following the rules is just plain stupid.

Achbani, I will gladly admit not being a Hebrew scholar myself. However, I'm not of a mind to depend on Mr. Strong. Any translator/commentator is an interpreter. I would contend that "invited guest" is a convenient parsing here. I would contend that there were a great number of aliens in ancient Israel that weren't invited guests. And then you could go round and round with the stories where God ordered the destruction of tribes that were already there, but not consistently, and the Israelites didn't consistently destroy them.

When I parse and contextualize that passage, I'm willing to err on the side of grace.

All that being said, you could also make the case that the employers that employ these people are, in effect, inviting them. If there were no work here, there would be no illegals. The lure of jobs paying more than they could begin to make in Mexico and employers willing to hire them seems to me to be an invitation in and of itself.

I apologize for believing in world citizenship and having a desire to see all humans live nice lives. I'm 100% behind any person who comes to this country to work hard and follow the laws and I don't give a damn how they got here.

I have a whole neighborhood of dark skinned neighbors who work their ass off and take good care of their family. They don't bother my lawn mower or my daughters. They're getting nothing for free. It's a real shame that no one helped Danny Curry get a suitable college education (or a high school, junior high, or elementary school education).
