Pryor to UA Board? UPDATE

Passing along a rumor that Brummett's Blog passed along: David Pryor to the UA Board seat held by Jim Lindsey, whose term has expired. He meets the Lindsey standard for higher education oversight in Arkansas -- he knows the Hog call. But also once ran the Institute of Politics up at a place called Harvard, comfort to those whose interests extend beyond the courts and playing fields.

UPDATE: Gov. Beebe just announced a batch of appointments, UA Board not among them. Also, I can't say for sure if a Second District resident can be appointed to the seat. Lindsey holds an at-large seat, but I think Brummett wrote that the two at-large seats can't both be from the same district. The other at-large seatholder currently is from Little Rock, Dr. Carl Johnson. Pryor has been living in Little Rock, but has been teaching in Fayetteville this fall.

UPDATE II: Here's a clue for you -- David Pryor is currently registered to vote in Fayetteville.

In any case, it so happens that the Downtown Partnership will be giving an award to the UA System at a noon luncheon Wednesday for location of the Clinton School downtown. UA President Alan Sugg to be there. Gov. Mike Beebe to be there. Other UA luminaries to be there. Opportune time for an announcement?

"He meets the Lindsey standard for higher education oversight in Arkansas --"

No, he doesn't meet it. He exceeds it by far. Great choice, I say!

Nice. Perhaps an expansion of Political Science graduate programs for UA/UALR coming down the tubes? We can all have dreams, right?

Beebe would be an idiot to not name Pryor to that Board....

Oh, wait. Damn...forgot who I was talking about.

"Hindsight is 20/20. We're gonna throw the bum out in 2010. Anyone but Beebe."

So, Lindsey's pick of the creationist-lawyer-fundie whose running his farm is out. What is the farm manager's name?...Reed ?

In March of next year there are two more board members whose terms expire.

Make a good mark Gov. Beebe.

.

"So, Lindsey's pick of the creationist-lawyer-fundie whose running his farm is out. What is the farm manager's name?...Reed ?"

That speculation was about the position of system president, not a board slot. Reed's already been on the board and been board chair. This is about Lindsey's slot and his ability to name the next system president. The speculation was that he was pushing Reed to run the system.

Maybe David P. will be named to the board and can see the value of national searches and selecting people with higher ed experience to run a higher ed system. At least I hope that's what happens.

Thanks perplexed for straightening me out. I should have remembered that. Low oxy sort of day.

At any rate when Lindsey goes perhaps the creationist-fundy's chances are diminished.

.

"At any rate when Lindsey goes perhaps the creationist-fundy's chances are diminished."

As long as Lindsey doesn't get to pick his own successor and make that person his mouthpiece.

Now, sometimes being a foreigner is an advantage and sometimes not.

Is this one of those, "Like father like son," deals? Is Daddy David a talking-snake-believer like Mister Mark?
