Going along to get along

John Brummett writes about freshman Rep. Davy Carter's recent talk to Cabot-area Republicans; a newspaper account of same, and Carter's subsequent explaining and amending. It doesn't do to be seen as being critical of your fellow legislators, though you might have differences with specific legislation. That's how it rolls out there.

As luck would have it, I talked with Carter recently about the session. Thematically, I'm not sure the newspaper account Brummett references was far off the mark. Being in the minority isn't easy business -- in a school classroom, in the legislature, in a dark alley in unfamiliar territory. You can get mugged.

Perhaps Rep. Carter will elaborate on partisan divides. I asked him last week to write a guest column for me while I'm on vacation next month. The more provocative the better.

MISTER Brummett

You sure wouldn't know it by all the R committee heads and the legislation they push thru.
I'm thinking of the annual sessions that tubby little R from Lowell-Rogers got on the ballot
last year. Insiders tell me it was a set up for stacking the lege with people wealthy enough
so as not to need to work...meaning Rich Republicons or Retired, rich people.
