Pub or Perish 2009

Great turnout tonight for Pub or Perish 2009, the bar reading sponsored by the Arkansas Times. A capacity crowd was on hand at Sticky Fingerz in the River Market to hear poets, essayists and fiction writers read from their works. Bestselling novelist Dorothy Allison rocked the house with a knockout piece of fiction (and even hugged my neck before she left... she's a class act). Arkansas Tech poet and novelist Paul Lake read some great poetry, and a haunting essay about being kidnapped as a young man. Novelist Cristina Henriquez read a very funny piece about moving to Texas, and Scott Standridge wowed the assembly with a selection of his sonnets.

In short: A good time was had by all. If you weren't there, you missed a great time. If you were, we hope to see you again next year. Cheers!

Comments

This sounded like one not to miss- sorry I did. Lake has an interesting Animal Farm type book out titled Cry Wolf.
