Off the cuff UPDATE
Jason Tolbert follows up with Kim Hendren to find out a little more about what really happened at the Pulaski County GOP meeting one week ago. Twitterers at the meeting said Hendren was met with some hostility, especially regarding his vote for the cigarette tax hike. Hendren gives his side of the story and defends, rather poorly, some of his more controversial remarks, like referring to New York Senator Charles Schumer as "that Jew."
"At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on The Andy Griffith Show. I made the mistake of referring to Sen. Schumer as ‘that Jew’ and I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say,” Hendren said.
Growing up, I watched my fair share of Andy Griffith re-runs. I don't remember a lot of talk about "those Jews." Are these the traditional values I keep hearing about? Hendren said he doesn't use a teleprompter and occasionally puts his foot in his mouth. Oy vey!
UPDATE: Schumer: "Apology accepted."

When women and blacks knew their place?
So Kim Hendren is a dick?
(someone needs to let him know that The Andy Griffith Show was not real. There was and is no such thing as "traditional values", people were just better at hiding their "sinning".

yeah, hating people based on skin color and religion is a fairly traditional value around here. and I don't recall seeing any blacks or jews in Mayberry.

On 'Real Time' Ron Howard said that Andy Griffith had always been a 'traditional' conservative but after 8 years of 'the smirking hero' he became a supporter of Obama.
People can get smarter if they are not stupid.

That shyster used car salesman....oh, excuse me, I mean, Kim Hendren is obviously a chasv-type dinosaur. He's one of the few ignorant assholes....oh, excuse me, people, who'd be worse in public office than Miss Jane Hathaway....oh, excuse me, I mean Blanche Lincoln. Neither will do a damn bit of good for the state of Arkansas or the USA-T&T. One might as well not vote in that race if those are the choices.
As I type I look over to my right and think...why not Bruce McMath? He looks like an Arkansas Senator. He's got the right genes, family history, lots of money, and a fine brain. What if we had an intelligent US Senator again? What if we had a Senator not owned by big business? What if we had a Senator willing to punch out a crook when he or she meets them face to face? What if we skipped racist, fundamentalist, assholes like Kim Hendren? What if Arkansas looked smart for once?
We sit around and bitch that we're constantly 48th on all the bad lists and then we vote into office people so greedy and flawed they make Ernest T. Bass look good. Any of Hendren, and more of Blanche is just wrong. America would be better off if our 2 seats in the Senate were left vacant for the next 6 years. Let's save the government a ton of money and vote no one into the Senate in 2010 unless we have an Obama-bright candidate to vote for next year. None is better than Bad.

"Took away from what I was trying to say?"
No, Hendren, sweetheart, you just revealed the provincial anti-Semitic hick that you are.
Okay. We've absorbed THAT.
Now PLEASE tell us there aren't any topless photos of you in your skivvies at 17 about to leak on the net, earwax.
Good God. It's 2009 and putzes like you still represent Arkansas?

Sheldon Leonard, the creator of The Andy Griffith Show, happened to be a jew.

>>Growing up, I watched my fair share of Andy Griffith re-runs. I don't remember a lot of talk about "those Jews." <<
Growing up I watched the original and if you noticed the credits lots of Jewish names popped up as
ES remarks above. One of the writers, who also wrote for other TV comedy series, is retired in Fayetteville.
Why is that Jews have always known what it takes to sell Hillbilly, hometown comedy? It's not that different from what makes people around the world chuckle.
Hendren should be ashamed. Ark and Benton County should be ashamed of supporting him.
