Response from Rep. Webb

In response to state GOP head Doyle Webb, whose acknowledged yesterday that he's described the state Democratic Party as the party of lesbians and other people not as Godly as he is, state Rep. Kathy Webb sends this via e-mail (she had trouble posting a comment to the blog):

Please note that Doyle Webb and I are not related. However, I would be happy to meet with him and share my thoughts about family values and a little background about my life. First, my parents were happily married for 68 years, and my siblings and I get along very well. My Dad is a retired United Methodist pastor. I serve on the Missions Committee at First United Methodist Church, and chair the Green Team there. Last year, I spoke from the pulpit during Lent to help raise money for hunger relief. I am privileged to serve on both the Arkansas Foodbank Network and Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance boards. I donated two rice mix recipes to the Rice Depot, one in memory of my Mother, to help them raise money. Today, I was one of 10 legislators honored by the Arkansas Kids Count Coalition as a Legislative Champion. My parents raised me to help those who are less fortunate than I, that to whom much is given, much is expected, and to love my neighbors. I hope Mr. Webb will email me so we can visit.

That address, Mr. Webb, is kathy@lillysdimsum.com

Like all conservatives, Doyle is a coward who'd rather eat dirt than consider the possibility the focus of his fears is just a normal person.

Good luck Representative K Webb and thanks for all you've done.

Kathy thank you for venturing up to Benton County this past year. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Unless there's an inheritance to pluck I doubt old Doyle will be interested in sorting out his jaded
and perverse statements. He's such a christian ya know.

.

Dear Ms. Rep. Webb,
Exactly how do you feel about my coal-fired electric plant at McNab?

I predict w/confidence that this meeting will never take place.

I predict also that the D. Webb will never meet with K. Webb because he is afraid her gayness might rub off on him. After all, being gay is a choice you know. Right MR. Webb? Gays choose to be ostracized by small minded people, right MR. WEBB? Yeesh. I thought the dark ages were passing us by...not in Arkansas apparently.

I agree with you, eLwood. Unless Rep. Webb agrees to put ol' Doyle in her will he's got no time for meetings.

In a contest between a lesbian and a dinosaur, I'll put my money on the lesbian every time.

In another life, I knew and closely observed Doyle Webb while he served in the Arkansas General Assembly. He was a certifiable fool then, and it is abundantly evident that he remains one. I can assure Kathy Webb, should ever her eyes fall upon these lines, that any communications or meetings with Doyle Webb will be time wasted. He is a hopeless case. That he is chairman of the state Republican Party is, to me, mind boggling, and says as much about the Party as it does about Webb.

Then the GOP are saying what's wrong with us? Well Doyle I haven't a inheritance, I got my meager allowance the Old Fashion Way, I labored for it. And any so called Christian who can stand for torture as an acceptable way to treat another human or animal. Does not practice the instruction my Lord left me with, he told me to love one annother as he loved us, to love our enemies, and to show them the other cheek, and pray for them. What part of these instructions have been torn out of your GOP Bible?

Good response Rep. K. Webb.

Respond to a negative reference with a positive and informative reply.

That sounds mature and classy.

Excellent.

Wonder how long it will be before she gets the first (of many) "hate" emails from some of our least favorite trolls on here!! YOU know who they are...

Doyle Webb, a lawyer and state senator from Benton, claimed victory Friday after the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct found he violated three rules of professional conduct but committed no fraud by accepting about $321,000 as beneficiary of a client's will.
"It helps me. Mr. [John] Lovell had alleged fraud on my part," Webb, 45, said of the attorney representing the heirs of Merle S. Salberg of Benton. "The committee found none."
Webb was accused of having himself written into the will by a lawyer with whom he shared an office, staff and stationery. He had faced sanctions ranging from a letter of caution to disbarment.
The seven-member committee found that Webb violated rules that deal with misconduct, misuse of law firm names and letterheads, and actions by an assistant.
...
Webb, who had represented Salberg for several years, wrote her will in 1993, which left all her belongings to her three heirs. It was amended three years later by Charles Doerpinghaus, a lawyer who shared an office and staff with Webb in Benton for about 14 years.
The changes, in what's known as a codicil, stated Webb would receive the residuary, or remainder, of Salberg's estate after specified items were bequeathed to the three other heirs. Webb received stocks, a house, a car and other assets.

There is another element to this that is interesting to me: The vast difference between Evangelical churches and churches such as United Methodist when it comes to acceptance of different lifestyles. I have some friends who attend evangelical churches and they just about think that United Methodists are some kind of occult satan worshipping folks.

No different than the 60s when ending segregation was the issue. "What is Black and White and Red all over"????

The Methodist Church

Although her response is perfect, the fact that she is either a lesbian or a Methodist or even a Christian has absolutely nothing to do with her governing abilities, and every single post on this thread ought to reflect that. This is sad. Sad. Sad.

Mine did.

My advice to Doyle Webb is to change his last name to prevent being confused as a long lost relative of Rep. Webb. I think a change to Dumbass would fit him best as many Arkansas Republicans will eventually agree.

DBI threw the soft pitch out there. I can't resist. SInce you mentioned Lesbians AND Dinosaurs in the same post I'll repeat the old joke.

What do you call a lesbian dinosaur?

Lickalotapus.

I'm gone for the day...

I worked with an Old Ironworker, needless to say anyone who climbs around in the steel like that all day everyday, or at the least a colorful character. But anyway, some shop talk was going on about ex VP Chaney's daughter being Lesbian. Gary spoke up and whats that, we informed him, he replied well I guess I'm one too cause I do like the Ladies. And a few other claims he made I want repeat. But Calmwriter's message brought that to mind.

Calmwriter, I can't help but be disappointed. After a thread of positive messages about a legislator engaged in, by all accounts, honorable service to the state who also happens to be a lesbian, you go and do that. Define lesbians by their sexual behavior. I'm not a complete prude, maybe a little one, though, and it's not that I can't see the humor there, but disappointed I remain. Sorta takes this conversation full circle, though. Sigh.

Kathy Webb is a wonderful person and an excellent legislator. I am grateful to have her as my representative and proud and honored to call her my friend.

Sorry you were offended.

I had that one in my clean joke box. Guess I was wrong. Having grown up gay around people who used the word "faggot" when they stubbed a toe or hammered a thumb rather than using a four letter, I can understand the lean towards caution.

I thought it was clean enough because it doesn't degrade. It doesn't insult lesbians. When Kathy ran I lived in her district. There was a sign in my yard and a check in the mail. I really don't think this is offensive to lesbians. In fact, just last month at the Eureka Springs Diversity festival I told it to a group of 40 something Lesbians and one almost laughed herself out of her crocs. She said it was one of the funniest lesbian jokes she'd ever heard. If you can't laugh at yourself...

I guess it's a matter of opinion. If I offended, I meant no harm.

Feedback from others?

"Feedback from others?"

calmwriter, most of us have at one time or another hit the "Post" button and immediately thought, "Oh, SHIT! Can't believe I did that!" Alas: If only there were a "Quick, Cancel!" option. Having said this, I'll share with you that an L friend told the same joke over drinks at Boscos the other night. While the rest of us were looking over our shoulders to see who might have heard her, she was practically convulsing in laughter. Who knows? She may be the person who became hysterical when you told the joke in Eureka.

Don't be too hard on yourself, calmwriter. It just struck me as a sharp contrast to the rest of the posts, many that hadn't even mentioned Rep. Webb's sexual orientation. I've told the joke myself. It's funny. I just thought it was out of place. I'm an old fashioned southern girl who wouldn't have included it in this sort of forum. I know you're on our side.

To help soothe your fears of bad gay jokes calm, here's my standard gay joke:

To gay guys were hanging out by the park on bright, nice Spring day. Slowly
up from the street comes the most gorgeous brunette, wearing hip huggers so
tight not one detail was left to the imagination, blouse open to just past the
beginning of full cleavage, and full red lips just below her sunglasses. The two
gay guys were fixated on this knock-out woman and had their eyes glued to
her every move as she slowing and deliberately swung her hips past them. After she
had passed the two gay guys bodies sorta slumped into a normal relaxation.

Then one gay guy says to the other: "You know, sometimes I really wish I was
a lesbian."

.

My impression of Kathy Webb, which was already very favorable, just went up several notches. I wish I were as conscientious about doing some of those things my faith requires of me. Unlike some, I shudder at describing anyone as "Godly," but Rep. Webb sure is about the business of doing some of the things Jesus did.

I mentioned on the other thread and will say again...I'll be supporting Kathy Webb with my wallet at her wonderful restaurant Lilly's Dim Sum, Then Some. No restaurant in Little Rock (maybe even the state) does more to reach out and help the community than Lilly's. What better way to show support to a great legislator, great person...and great cook, than to support her livelihood.

Kathy, thank you for your post and I am sorry if my post hurts your standing with many of the "regulars" on this blog. I have known Kathy Webb for many years, her brother was one of my teachers/mentors at UCA in the early 70's. She is a great contributing member to our congregation at First United Methodist Church in LR. Despite the blasting I got from several here the last time I responded to a "gay" issue on this blog, Kathy's prominent position as a lay leader in our congregation is embraced and celebrated by the whole church community. I do not know Doyle Webb but I do know him. I hope he will accept Kathy Webb's invitation to visit. Kathy Webb is a person of integrity and a great contributor to the fabric of our community besides being a good business woman and restaurant owner/operator. We are fortunate to have her leadership in the state legislature.

In Response to Doyle Webb's comments in the June 2 edition of the Daily Citizen. Mr. Webb seems to be hedging on his statements about the Democratic party in calling Kathy Webb a good Christian. I have discovered that over the years that going to church and doing good works doesn't make one a good christian. There is only one thing that does, that is to follow God's plan. Our goods doesn't get us into heaven nor does going to church every time you get a chance.

Our Salvation is dependent upon our acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Saviour. Accepting his plan for our life is the best way to show the world that we are Christians. If Kathy Webb, you, me or anyone else isn't living a lifestyle that is examplary of God's word , the Bible, then it would be questionable as to whether or not we are christians, let alone, good christians.

If we aren't living up to God's standards then we need to examine our lives and make necessary changes. After all God condemned the act of homosexuality and other sinful acts in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. If the wording is as explicit in one it is the other. Homosexuality, Adultry,Fornication, denying God, anything that is contrary to God's word is SIN. Yet somehow we tend to condone sin and reject God. How can anyone that is a part of a lifestyle that blatantly rejects God and his teachings also be considered a good christian? We can't have it both ways.
