Marion Berry called down
Roby Brock picks up an item from D.C. press that indicates U.S. Rep. Marion Berry has underestimated the value of a Washington home on required financial disclosure forms by, oh, a half-million or so. He seems to be reporting cost of the Capitol Hill rowhouse (which he apparently rents out) -- $369,000 -- rather than the required current market value of $947,000. Honest mistake, his staff says.
(Hard to figure why you'd intentionally underreport. With Zillow and Google mapping and all the rest of available web resources, it's pretty hard to hide the value of a home.)

Here is the real story behind the story on this one.
Get ready i am going all largeass on y'all.
THE DAMN PEOPLE WRITING THE TAX LAWS CAN'T EVEN FIGURE THEIR OWN TAXES CORRECTLY! WHAT CHANCE DOES A FELLOW OUT HERE IN FLYOVER LAND HAVE OF FIGURING TAXES CORRECTLY.
There needs to be an overhaul of tax laws, this is rediculous.
Or maybe they are all lying tax-cheats playing dumb.

"Hard to figure why you'd intentionally underreport." Really?
When Rep. Berry comes home to the good folks he won't have to explain his million dollar house. A lie is the truth until someone figures out it is a lie.

The $369,000 figure was probably the market value when he started renting years ago. Inflation over the years caused it to more than double. Just an honest oversight. Probably. Nothing to get upset about.
