Senate race shaping up
Here's former state Rep. Lenville Evans' announcement that he'll seek term-limited Sen. Bobby Glover's seat in 2010. Evans is a Democrat. Cabot Mayor Eddie Joe Williams has said he'll run as a Republican.
And our Garland County bureau reports from Hot Springs this senatorial news:
Republican Rep. Bill Sample announced this morning at the Hot Springs Convention Center that he will seek the Senate seat of Terry Smith who is term limited. He is expected to be unopposed in the Republican primary and then face the winner of the Gene Shelby and Rick Saunders battle in the Democratic primary. Saunders and Shelby are both term limited representatives.
Lenville Evans, a former State Representative, announced today his intention to seek the District 28 Senate seat as a Democrat. District 28, consisting of parts of Arkansas, Lonoke, Prairie and Pulaski counties, is currently represented by Senator Bobby Glover who cannot run for re-election due to term limits.
“I believe my 6 years as a member of the House of Representatives and as a former Mayor and City Council member gives me the insight and experience to serve in the Senate. I know how important it is to work on issues that deal with education because that is the best way to secure our children’s future. I am also very interested in making sure our cities and counties receive equal funding. It is imperative we keep our towns and counties viable. I also believe we need to repair and upgrade our infrastructure because without good roads our economy will not improve.”
Evans previously served 3 terms in the House for District 15 which consists of parts of Lonoke and Pulaski counties. While in the House he served on the Transportation, Agriculture and Economic Development and the Energy Committees. He also served as Chairman of the House Management Committee.
A rice and soybean farmer, Evans previously served in the Arkansas National Guard and is a Board Member of the Lonoke County Co-Op. He and his wife, the former Sandra Hudgens, have two children, Tammy and Bill. They are members of Lonoke Baptist Church.

Lenville if you believe that then how about a state-wide sales tax on gasoline that goes directly to the county where it is produced.

As my former representative, Evans sat in the House for his six years like a piece of furniture. What to say he'll be any different in the Senate, where things tend to be a little more laid back?
Not to say that such inactivity is a bad thing, given the shenanigans that these fellows frequently get up to.
