Sex and the Baptists
Thanks to blogger Jason Tolbert for attention to what he calls the weirdest story ever from Baptist Press. It also has a local angle.
It seems that Dennis Rainey of Little Rock, whose Family Life ministry includes a syndicated national radio program, had his program cut off in mid-show recently because of a guest. Dick Bott, who distributes Christian programming, ordered the plug pulled because Rainey was talking to a controversial Seattle pastor, Mark Driscoll.
Driscoll sometimes uses coarse language in his sermons and is infamous among conservative Christians for a 2007 sermon that gave the raciest interpretation yet of the Song of Solomon.
During the sermon, which was entitled "Sex, a Study of the Good Bits from Song of Solomon," Driscoll interpreted Song of Solomon 2:3 as referring to oral sex and then said, "Men, I am glad to report to you that oral sex is biblical.... The wife performing oral sex on the husband is biblical. God's men said, Amen. Ladies, your husbands appreciate oral sex. They do. So, serve them, love them well. It's biblical. Right here. We have a verse. 'The fruit of her husband is sweet to her taste and she delights to be beneath him.'"
Driscoll went on to tell an anecdote about a wife who he said won her husband to Christ by performing oral sex on him. Driscoll said he told her that giving him oral sex would be following the admonition of Scripture. A transcript of the sermon quotes Driscoll saying he told her, "1 Peter 3 says if your husband is an unbeliever to serve him with deeds of kindness," referring to oral sex.
There's more. Lots more. But this is a family blog. (Really, much of the article is about theological disputation. Interesting, but not necessarily spicy.)
Network operator Bott told the Baptist Press he still respected Rainey and supported his programming. Without Driscoll.

Is there anything in the Scripture about swallowing? To swallow or not to swallow?

Lordy. Glad I'm going to jazzyville today. Wasn't there something in the news last night about a man being arrested and charged 'cause he was in a massage parlor getting something "biblical" done to him?

Lordy, lordy! Wait until DBI sees this. He may walk the aisle Sunday morn and get saved and then get some of that scriptural treatment of the fruit of his loins. Talk about an apocalyptic sign!

Well I've officially heard it all now...brought to Jesus by a blowjob. And, of course, being Baptist his biblical interpretations always manage to have women serving men, rather than men servicing women.
Good thing the world is full of non-nutty men/women who understand the special benefits of giving rather than always receiving.

Gee, in the Baptist church of my childhood, the good church ladies were somehow expected to have Sunday dinner on the table 30 minutes after church let out. Guess that gets delayed a bit for the Driscoll adherents.
Of course, nowadays it's hie thee to the local steak house for Sunday dinner. So, before or after? (Sister Sue, you 'n' Dickie are awfully late for the buffet. Don't you dare get kissy-kissy with me.)

Um just plain ole YUCK! It says beneath anyway and to my recollection you really can't do that beneath someone unless they are reciprocating at the same time.... i.e. 69! Just had to add to the mess...too funny....a blowjob brought me salvation....must tell the church friends about this one!

Driscoll is a Calvinist, which means he believes in predestination and the absence of free will. God decided who will get to heaven and those who will go to Hell before they were born.
Along with that literal inerrant Biblical viewpoint also comes the commandment that the man is the head of the household and that women shall not hold authority over men, etc. No women pastors at his church!
So he may be sexy but he's also a sexist.

This might win over quite a few men to convert to the Baptist faith, but I'm not so sure about their wimmenfolk............... If they have to beat her over the head with a Bible to get a few extra services, well, she may not be too eager to follow THAT scriptural advice.
Doigotta, my mother always left her roast and vegetables cooking away while we went to church. Barely recognizable when we got home, but at least she never burned the house down. I might do that if I had a timer on my stove but still....I'd worry. One of my earliest memories, however, is of her blowing up a pressure cooker while canning green beans. I guess the topic of Sunday dinner automatically appearing upon the table can't compete with the original topic of discussion, though.
Alligator gar -- i dont know how to explain this politely but something about your posting name and the subject at hand here........well, that's a lot of teeth to avoid right there. Im not too sure this scriptural advice applies to actual alligator gars, no matter what their denomination.
what are these people imbibing??????? How soon can we get some?????????
DBI, where are you?? Are you ok?? this here info didnt cause you to have a stroke, did it??

Well isn't this a little gift from heaven? At long last maybe I've found a church I can attend and believe in! But the first question that came to mind is....how do you bring women to Christ? The second question is...could it be Monica was worried about Bill Clinton's spiritual soul?
Oh I remember shouting Jesus Jesus Jesus during many a blowjob. I'll have to say few things have ever brought me closer to heaven. You can keep that sitting on the right hand of the father crap...obviously whoever wrote the Bible had never had oral sex. But people....honestly....isn't it all good? And shouldn't it all be viewed as biblical? Lunch is a happy time, but being lunch is happier. I have to wonder about the real meaning of the practice of washing feet. Maybe that's god-code for something else.
But as someone tried to say, but got one wrong extra word in there.......this proves you can make the Bible mean anything if you can surround yourself with some goofballs that are willing to listen. As it is amazing to find black people who call themselves Republicans, I find it amazing how many women call themselves Christians when the Bible is such a sexist book. Every bad thing you can do to a woman is found in the Bible by way of instructions. And even in 2009, there are millions of men who believe a woman is their property. I was lucky enough to marry 2 women in my life who never bought that crap for a moment. I stand before you a simple man who knows his place....and it ain't lording over any woman.
If we're going to make Bible guesses, I wonder if the story of loaves and fishes didn't originate from a woman who just looked between her man's legs and was hoping there was someway to multiply what she found? Seems logical to me.
And this is a good time to bring up how goofy grown people are. I was reading about how Iceland went bankrupt and in the story was a part about how Iceland, with lots of free energy coming from the ground found out the best way to use this energy for the national good was for smelting aluminum. So the Icelandic government made a deal with Alcoa to come build a giant plant. But before Alcoa could break ground, it was required to spend 6 months and a gob of money to pay experts to make sure there were no Icelandic elves living on and under the ground. No lookie for the elf, no buildie the big aluminum plant. I think there needs to be a separation between elves and state in Iceland!
I guess the people of Iceland never heard of God, or they'd forget about them elves. But it just shows how stupid humans are, even at this late date. If you need a radio preacher to help you with your life decisions.....you might do just as well to go looking for elves. I'm a big fan of the blowjob and thank Allah I have a good memory. But the only reason anyone should blow someone else is cause they wanna. And men.....if you think it's so great you better learn to pay it back. Can somebody say amen?

What always gets me is how any Baptist (or insert any denomination) can logically disect other religions as ludicrous in their beliefs and even discount any other flavor of christianity. Yet question any of their doctrine is an attack.
I see Americans talking about how a country with a muslim government is a horrible thing. (see Iran) But they can not see the EXACT same problem with the USA putting christian Icons in courthouses or requiring children to recite a specific prayer of a specific denomination.
