With God on our side
Interesting report of Republicans playing the God card in Virginia politics. Newt Gingrich, of all people.
"I think this is one of the most critical moments in American history," Newt Gingrich, the former Republican House speaker, told the audience. "We are living in a period where we are surrounded by paganism."
(And, he could have added, surrounded by hypocrites who screwed around on cancer-stricken wives while waving the bloody shirt of "values.")
And, of course, Parson Mike Huckabee weighed in with what some bloggers are saying is the worst claim yet to divinely ordained American exceptionalism:
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and Baptist preacher who ran for president last year - and won the Iowa GOP's caucuses - and now has his own TV show on FOX, told the audience at the Virginia Beach forum that he was disturbed to hear Obama in Egypt suggesting that one nation shouldn't be exalted over another.
"The notion that we are just one of many among equals is nonsense," Huckabee said. The United States is a "blessed" nation, he said, calling the American revolutionary defeat of the British empire "a miracle from God's hand."
The same sort of miracle-working was at hand in the defeat of California's gay marriage amendment, Huckabee suggested -- voters "did it because some things are right and some things are wrong and they had to make a stand.''
This inspired one blogger to write of the "right-wing circle jerk":
Thanks to Mike Huckabee, we now know that God is a) French, and b) Mormon.
UPDATE: More traction for Huck's overloaded mouth. A Daily Kos diarist recounts some of the Huckster's other divine inspiration, such as when he implied Jesus supported the death penalty because he passed up a perfect opportunity to say he opposed it. Also there was the time Huckster said it was God's decision to give him the Iowa Republican caucus victory. (I guess He took a powder the rest of the primary.)

There's two more miracles. One is that Huck left Arkansas.
Number two miracle is that Huck lost the R primary.
Glen Beck's phony little make-believe metaphor of being surrounded is silly in
these days of 24/7 FAUX News slants. Just another way of saying "black man in the White House."

Interesting that Parson Huck picked the USA as some sort of land chosen and favored by God and left out the Holy Land, Jerusalem, Israel, etc. Now maybe they dont have the resources to be world leaders as Parson Huck (I really like that) had noted the USA has -- but I wonder still if someone in Jerusalem might be interested to hear that we have now surpassed them in .......... uh. theres the problem. being a pain in the azz?
The British also might want to consult the Parson to see if God is still annoyed with them. If He is, of course, happily we know the way to fix that. Gifts for the preacher and lots of 'em!

"WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Troubled by dwindling membership and numerous setbacks, the 155 year-old Republican Party filed for financial, intellectual and moral bankruptcy and announced its reorganization as a tax-exempt church. The new GOP will be officially called The First Church Of Jesus Loves America And Latter Day Lower Taxes Anti Foreigner Old Time Heterosexual Do As I say Not As I Do Affluence Ministry Hoop N' Hollerin' Revival Gun Lovin' Banker's Club Outreach Hootenanny, Inc but will still use the name "Republican Party" for most functions.

Clearly, tina, Huck is parting ways with many of his evangelical brethren by believing that the US trumps Israel in the Jewish God's most important list.
As always, God-wielding hypocrites, like Huck/Newt, use their god to endorse anything that fits in their agenda and ignore everything else. The REAL Truth according to my conversations with various deities is that God answered my prayers by relegating those two yahoos to the presidential dust heap. God then went on to say that women are smarter than men, white men are old news and that today's Republican Party is one big cosmic joke. (Plus she's getting quite disgusted with humans inability to rid themselves of the same ole religious nuts who've been lining their pockets, subjugating women and massacring the hell out of simple Truths about loving each other and choosing people over material things.)

What this country needs is some good old fashion criminal investigations. The reason Newt & Huck are still plying the air waves is because no one has ever properly investigated their financial dealings. Huck could have himself a rollicking prison ministry going right now if the Beebe administration had bothered to investigate his last year in office. But laziness doesn't just pertain to us regular people, as the killing of Dr. Tiller points out our law enforcement and judicial branch have grown lazy too.
Well, if we can't depend on those we historically depended on to protect us from the bad guys, we'll have to do it ourselves. All we have to do is quit paying attention to assholes like Newt & Huck and they'll dry up and blow away like those strange white dog turds you find now and then in your yard. Giving assholes ATTENTION is playing right into their hands. We must stop feeding the trolls who foul the air with their insane rantings and sometimes get people killed.
If we don't have the balls to indict and prosecute them, we ought to at least have the good sense to ignore them. Newt & Huck have never done a good thing for anyone other than themselves. It's time we figure that out and shun them back into their 19th century caves. Put these assholes on IGNORE permanently!

"surrounded by hypocrites who screwed around on cancer-stricken wives while waving the bloody shirt of "values."
You mean like one-time Democratic Presidential darling John Edwards? The hypocrisy is not just a Republican criterion...seems to cut across the ideological spectrum.

But Inquisitor.....have you heard a peep out of John Edwards lately? He at least has the good sense to take a hike and keep his lying mouth shut.

"I'm serious about this. The Republican Party needs to reform or die. President Bush did three things. He destroyed the Republican majority, he crippled the American conservative movement and he weakened the country. That's a hell of a trifecta."
"Obama has been described as the Ronald Reagan of the Democratic Party.-
He is. He understands where America is temperamentally. He thinks big like Ronald Reagan.

The Inquisitor,
Refresh my memory, when did John Edwards serve his wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer as Newt did to his first wife Jackie in 1981?

I think I could deal wtih God being French and Mormon, even though Im not sure the French or the Mormons could, if Parson Huck would just pack up his Newt and go live there. In France. Among all the Mormons. Write, or don't, when you get work. save yourself some money and dont call us, we'll call you.
DBI, Im pretty sure those white dog turds are supposed to be mailed to someone you dont like very much. Im just saying, is all. It's a Sign from God. Like, if you get real mad at your bank sometime, its ok to go down there and store a favorite fish in your safety-deposit box. Just take out all those papers in there first. they'll be mad as hell, sure, but it'll take them a good long time to figure out whodunit.
eLwood, I surely do admire that new name for the repuglican party. If the choices are for reform or die, I vote to pull the plug on all the old farts and thieves and wh*reh*ppers. Is it ok to say that here? I better put a few ** in there.
Mr Joe Scarborough seems to have forgotten that Bush also started a war for oil,to line the pockets of his cronies and their fearless leader, at a cost of how many young American lives now??

What ticked me off about Bill Clinton's sexual behavior was that he didn't have the character to look reporters in the eye and say, "My sex life is none of your business. Or America's, for that matter. Next question."

It would be nice if these folks would actually look at what Christianity really is, and where it came from.
Newt must be unaware of the exponential growth that the church faced in the 3rd century when they REALLY WERE surrounded by paganism.
As the communites fell ill to the many sicknesses that were killing people off, the Christians risked their own life and that of their familes, to go out and pull the pagans in to restore their health.
People were so amazed at the authentic representation of Jesus, that they found him irresistable. The current representation of Christ makes him anything but desirable.
Shame.
