Barracuda jumps to another ocean

The New York Times says:

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska announced Thursday that she would step down by the end of the month and not seek a second term as governor, allowing her to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

She'll step down July 25. Some cable talkers think this weird speech could be the end of her national ambitions and are quoting "sources" as saying that's her intention, to leave politics. Even some Republicans said the sports-metaphor-laden, disjointed talk was "bizarre." But I wouldn't be so sure this is disqualifying, certainly not with the zombie wing of Republican Party. And she did an awful lot of talk about serving larger purposes. She was savaged, however, in a recent Vanity Fair profile ("It came from Wasilla") and the talk today certainly didn't showcase a national prime-timer.

I prefer to say let the campaign begin -- Huck v. Palin in 2012. Just don't look for them on the same ticket. Not enough air in that room.

UPDATE: Uh oh, add meanness to cute white women to the conservatives' victimhood litany (you know Christian white males are the most discriminated against class in America.) Huck plays the victim card, too, to burnish his zombie love should she actually be exiting the stage:

Mike Huckabee, who might be/have been a 2012 contender against Palin, said that “what she’s showing is what a lot of us loved about her: Her spunk.” He said that her supporters wouldn’t punish her decision: “They’re going to feel like she was, in essence, hounded from the opportunity to serve.”

UPDATE II: I don't have a clue what's on her mind. But MSNBC is running the full speech. It's the only way to appreciate what occurred today. She's a wackjob. Whatever her intentions, she's proved she's not fit to be president. Get the bugler. Blow "Taps." Stick a fork in Caribou Barbie. As a political force, she's done.

That was one rambling, crazy filled announcement.
Ma Palin never fails to deliver....

Congratulations Alaska!

She will also be in a position to avoid public appearances and duties in the event the stuff on hubby hits the headlines.

.

Thanks for the thread, Max.

The Times is wrong. I'm speculating madly, based on body language and timing, that Sara Baracuda is fixin' to get harpooned.

The lady is nervous. The best for her is if this is the result of a deal. It could be in hopes that it will make things easier on her when the other shoe falls.

Who is doing the hits on future Republican candidates? They are going down like dominoes!!!

What if a governor resigned and no one noticed? Without the role of governor, she is just one of the 100 dwarfs running to be the next Republican sacrificial lamb.

I wonder if Mike should be worried about his time slot on FOX?

She speaks like George W. Bush in red shoes.

I think somebody bet her an elkskin that she couldn't knock Michael Jackson off the news. For about 3 minutes I was glad she did, but, gawd, listening to that woman talk is like scraping my teeth on brick. Done yet? Let's get back to all that exciting news about Michael...until something more interesting happens.

Oh boy, now she'll have time to work on that book, also, too.

>>listening to that woman talk is like scraping my teeth on brick. <<

Damn! Who could have said it better. But that's why your the writer.

.

Now that Ma Palin is leaving office who will protect us from Putin?

"...won't have to deal with the restraints of being a governor."

What? Constraints on Sarah/ Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaha

>>I wonder if Mike should be worried about his time slot on FOX?<<

Not at all Any*Mouse.

Huckabuck is just where he needs to be. He's the new Pat Buchanan. He will live well
and enjoy lots of attention and be entitled to think he makes a difference in public policy.

Well, almost. He could take another run at the White Hse. But he is no Karl Rove and
I see no Karl Rove on the horizon for any of them. What worked in one era will not necessarily
work in another. They've milked out gay hysteria, abortion, and Orange Alerts for all its worth.

.

Wooo Hoooo....

Another threat to our liberal way of life bites the dust (cue up Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust").

Way to go everyone. We ran her off....who's next?

I am kinda liking this liberal stuff. It is much funner to attack others than be attacked.

Catfish,
The LIberal POS

From what I've seen you have part of your new handle correct: Piece of Shit.

There is no doubt that you have no understanding of what liberal means.
Ann Coulter has defined it for you plus others on the luny side of life.

Enjoy your unemployment bennies brought to you by liberal Demos over the years
and fought against by people just like you.

Just for you catfish.....do the clicky

Gee, Catfish, looks to this liberal like Miss Sarah imPALINed herself. Get my drift?

She's a female Mike Buckabee, out to get her share of riches from ignorant Republicans until she is no longer relevant. You Republicans are gonna like her new grift, you betcha.

". . . Another threat to our liberal way of life bites the dust (cue up Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust").

Way to go everyone. We ran her off....who's next? . . . " CatfishEater

CE,
As if any of us cared? I will say two things.

1) Sarah,
Hire a speech-writer. You need the help.

2) ". . . to all Alaska, you have my hearts . . ." "My Hearts?!" I knew there was something different about that woman. Refer to number 1)

Funny, Cato.

You know, ol' Sanford has gotta be happy. Another story to keep that dumbass off the front pages - as hard as he seemingly fights to stay there. Maybe Sarah Moosehunter is really the Argentinian mystery chick.

Announcing at the weekend, a holiday weekend at that, suggests she might be trying to shield herself from the publicity of stepping down, and that there might be a scandal looming.

Well...isn't this a good day! Palin, too stupid to understand freedom announces she's going to resign! Says she's going to effect change outside of government. NOW YOU'RE TALKING! I don't give a damn what some nut does as long as they're not in my yard and not in my government. What we need right now is a hell of a lot of separation of Nuts and State. You don't want a bad bus driver, or a dentist, or a waitress. Why do we sit on our hands when dumbasses run parts of our government? Now Sarah's free to effect change in Mary Kay Inc.....get ya a pink Cadillac girl!

I keep seeing mention of the "iceberg scandal". Wonder what that means? Was Sarah stealing icebergs? Was she pushing them south in hopes of FK'ing with the California coastline? Wonder what all this will turn out to be? Now if we can distribute whatever Michael Jackson was taking to about half the Senate....we might get somewhere. We can be wingnut free if we wanna be! Happy 4th of July...and why not sing along with me.....

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead.

She's knocked up.

Don Pardo is leaving too, ya' know.

Will the media now please just stay away from her? She's as dumb as a sack of hair, one that they held back in sack of hair school. May our latest "long national nightmare" please come to an end!

I think that the Republican Party has embraced recreational drug use....only they have gone past harmless weed..........catfisheater, you can bet we liberals are loving this meltdown of a political party that stomped on our rights and priviledges for 8 years and who robbed us blind while being the most sanctimonious pieces of poo................it is funny and scary too that the Republicans are now using the exact same language as the Taliban in regards to describe their new political agenda. Are you a RepubliCAN catfisheater or are you a RepubliCAN'T catfisheater?

"...a woman, after all, who kept a pregnancy secret for seven months, flew all the way home from Texas to Alaska with a near-full-term baby while leaking amniotic fluid, and then finally drove the 45 minutes from Anchorage to a hospital in Wasilla, all so that the child could be born in the 49th state. "

" "I had found out that I was pregnant while out of state first," Palin told the crowd. "While out of state, there just for a fleeting moment, I thought, Nobody knows me here. Nobody would ever know. I thought, Wow, it is easy to think maybe of trying to change the circumstances and no one would know-no one would ever know." "

Does anyone else think she tried to "accidentally" abort this child? I hope I don't sound anti-feminist or just plain mean. But this incident has weighed on me since I heard of it. Of all the other things the press opened to conjecture, this is one thing they left alone. I'm pro-choice, by the way, so if she had done it that would have been her business. But deep down I still find the whole thing rather sinister.

Uh . . . if the Vanity Fair article produced THIS, I can't WAIT to see what revelations are coming!

In a nice more or less Christian way.

Spunkrat -

Bingo.

Thanks.

She's getting all the benefits and none of the liabilities of holding office. Gets to run around getting paid to make appearances, without the onerous obligations of actually doing a job. I think her goose is cooked in any national political sense.

Silver Bells, that was my first thought too -- oh Lord, what sex scandal has turned up in HER closet?

y'all need to quit calling her Caribou Barbie. What if the caribou get to vote in alaska? It could happen and they'll be mad.

I still think something rotten turned up in the Palin household, other than the lady's governing skills, and she resigned in hopes that it won't hit the fan. maybe she IS the Argentinian Firecracker.

has there ever been an Argenta Firecracker?

happy 4th to everyone. Back to work now where I belong.

Sarah Palin ripped a page from Huckabuck's playbook.
Run your mouth, No responsibilities, Make $$, Disclose nothing. Loaded Gift Cards

That rambling much ado about nothing confirms what we've known all along... that darn hair clip restricts blood flow to the brain .... that whole basketball analogy made her sound about as intelligent as the women sportscasters who prove that they know absolutely NOTHING about sports.

Gotta love her hearts and her loves for Alaska, eh?

What is this shit about adults making fun of her baby, Trig? Who or what is she talking about?
Sarah is SOOOO over!

Kizzy:

Clicky for some of the explanation about Trig.

Sarah brings some of this on herself, but it shouldn't involve Trig, or any young child.

Palin will be the center of a sex scandal within a week...mark these words.

Miss "You, betcha!" (wink) is running scared...her press conference was such a rambling piece of gobbledygook that no one could make heads or tales of any of it. But, you can count on this, she has a skeleton rattling around in her closet and it is scaring her literally to death.

FWIW, Dailykos is saying federal indictments for embezzlement are coming down the pike. Some quid pro quo stuff for the $12 million Wassilla athletic facility....the contractor was also working for Palin and Ted Stevens.

Criminal indictment pending authorization. Federal charge of embezzlement involving her house and the sports arena in Wasilla. That being reported on a firedoglake site from a source sometimes connected with CNN, in turn citing a law enforcement source.
Take it for what it's worth.

hmmmmm...Maybe this will be the final incentive for folks here in West Little Rock need to remove those distasteful McCain-Palin stickers from their SUV's.

Wow. After viewing the entire speech, I feel sorry for her. She got thrown in way over her head, probably not aware of how far, and is still paying the price. Trying to back out with dignity in such a situation is impossible.

I think it is about the money. Now she can go on the speaking circuit and make money rather than having to reimburse the state when she travels out of Alaska to do other political business. Nor could she get money for those appearances. Quit now, raise money for the next year and a half and then she'll throw her hat in the ring for President.

At least it made Michael Jackson's death not the main headline on the national news tonight. One wack job replaced the other one as the top headline of the day!

Finally got a moment to watch the full video at MSNBC.....this woman is nuts. Yes...we don't need less children with Down's syndrome.....we need more. I'm quitting to show that I'm no quitter! I'm not retreating, I'm advancing in another direction...I think she even got the quote wrong.

And it's so good she could say this mish-mash of gobbledy gook in front of 12 to 15 people. Perhaps an assembly of every Palin supporter left in Alaska. Good Lord! This is the level American politics has fallen to? How do Republican get up in the morning knowing there's a good chance another one of them will fall on their own sword more pathetically than the one that went before? It almost makes me feel sorry for the Republican Party.....no wait...FK'em! They deserve this and worse. They brought America to the brink of destruction and they're still pushing us over the cliff.

But what about this........we heard last year that there was some funny business with the Palin house and a mysterious connection to the Wasilla sports complex and the contractor who was working at both places. I'd say it's been about 7 months since that rumor started circulating. Could it be that it took the Obama Justice Department 6 months to build a air-tight case against the Palins? And only now they can release the indictments against them? Hmmmmmmm

We're known of Sarah Palin for 10 months according to MSNBC. I sounds like she might be guilty of ONE crime. Cheney-Bush were in office for 8 long years and might be guilty of hundreds or thousands of crimes. So wouldn't it follow that if it took 6 months to put the rope around the Palin's neck over a single crime....it might take a year or two to spring the trap on Cheney & Bush? Hmmmm...yes...it gives me hope. President O might be humming and hawing for a very good reason. Good things take time....good court cases take lots of time. I'm going to bed smiling tonight.
