Housing report: Mixed

Here's the May report on home sales in Arkansas. Could be worse.

Total home sales were flat compared with May 2008 in Benton and Washington Counties, but down everywhere else among the largest Arkansas counties.

The average sale price was up in Pulaski County, down everywhere else. For the year, numbers everywhere are negative, generally double-digit negative, with one notable exception -- the average housing sale price in Pulaski County is up a tiny bit, from $171,600 to $171,800. In Benton and Washington Counties, prices are down 12.8 and 11 percent on average, respectively. Remarkable in this down market that Pulaski is holding up.

Here's the county-by-county spreadsheet.
