Huckabee: A GOP Jesse Jackson?
Conservative columnist Michael Barone has prompted a number of web comments today about his suggestion that Mike Huckabee could be the Republicans Jesse Jackson. Huck could, Barone writes, leverage his appeal to evangelical and other base Republican voters perhaps all the way to the nomination thanks to Iowa's early influence and the Republican winner-take-all primary system. But would he most likely wind up like Jackson, with a significant constituency that can't give him better than a second or third place finish for the nomination?
Here's where number cruncher Nate Silver at 538.com comes in. Silver notes that in 2008 Huckabee did not dominate among evangelical Republican voters and did very poorly among non-evangelicals. His problem might be, Silver suggests, that he has too much crossover appeal to conservative Democrats with some of his populist views, something that could hurt him in the primary. Silver concludes that the best bet for Huck is to "stay in hibernation" in 2012.

Is "hiberation" a word or a typo?
Oh, well.
"First we get the military, then we get the nation." Is that Obama's new "home" church minister speaking? Huckabee? Both? Neither?
Onward, Christian soldiers.

We will know Huck is there when he makes a "I could cut his nuts off" remark on national TV.
But Huck as the Republican "coon"...just can't see it but as The Fable of Christ loses more and more of it's inerrant appeal in the coming years then someone will need to carry the leftover crosses. I imagine that to be Huck with the help of Alan what's-his-name.

Huckabee stay in hibernation in 2012?
Ha! Don't hold your breath waiting on that to happen.
He'd just as soon have his manhood surgically removed without any anesthesia.
Huckabee has tasted the big-time...he's a star (of sorts) on Faux News, he's been on the tour as the possible nominee already. He's a player (he thinks).
Ain't no way that he sits the next one out on the sidelines. I said here first.

"His problem might be, Silver suggests, that he has too much crossover appeal to conservative Democrats"
His problem might be, DBI suggests, that he has too much comb-over failure to appeal to anyone other than the Bible-beating poor of the nation. He's likable like the coolest vinyl siding salesman at the state fair. Good speech now and then but nothing behind it and it shows.
Huck is right where he wants to be. Getting paid for doing a bunch of nothing. For one family he can make a nice living shilling the religious folks and never break a sweat for the rest of his life. His name will always be out there, right below the surface where the worms live, but his retirement fund will keep Janet farting through silk for the rest of her life. Mission Accomplished!
