Paul F. Dumas of Morrilton has been appointed to the state Ethics Commission by Senator Bob Johnson, the President Pro Tem of the Arkansas Senate.
Dumas has been in private practice in Morrilton since 1998. He was president of the Young Lawyers' Section of the Arkansas Bar Association in 2003 and 2004, a member of its Board of Governors in 2003 and 2004 and recipient of its Golden Gavel Award in 1999.
"I've known and respected Paul Dumas for many years," Johnson said. "He's dedicated to the practice of law and he's active in his community, but no matter how busy he gets he always keeps his family at the top of his priorities. Paul Dumas is a solid person and a first-class individual."
Dumas is married and has three sons.
"I'm honored to have this opportunity and I look forward to working with the Commission," Dumas said.
Dumas is a 1986 graduate of El Dorado High School. He graduated with honors from Ouachita Baptist University in 1993 and from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law in 1996.
Dumas' community involvement includes a term as chairman of the Conway County Economic Development Corporation in 2007 and 2008 and chairman of the Morrilton Planning and Zoning Commission in 2004.  He also served as a commissioner on the Planning and Zoning Commission from 1999 through 2004. Dumas is a past president of Conway County Vision 2020 and a past chairman of the Conway County Community Foundation. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Morrilton Rotary Club, and served as its president in 2005 and 2006.
He has been city attorney for Plumerville since 1999 and for Perryville since 2004. He has been the City Judge for the city of Oppelo since 2003. He has resigned from all three court positions because state law does not allow anyone to hold such offices while also serving on the Ethics Commission.
Dumas will replace Linda Collins-Smith of Pocahontas on the Ethics Commission. His term will expire at the end of 2012.
