President Huckabee

Andrew DeMillo analyzes the political fortunes of Mike Huckabee amid the cratering of careers of some other top Republicans (Ensign, Sanford). He certainly hasn't been hurt.

Sarah Palin is a wild card, however, whatever you or I may think of her intellect or her quitting her job mid-term. See Frank Rich's take that she now owns the GOP. Let us hope.

Comments

"...she now owns the GOP. Let us hope."

Careful what you wish for there Max. While they might not constitute a majority, they are batshit crazy and capable of doing a lot of damage once someone talks them into taking up their pitchforks and torches.

So Frank Rich is the final say so on who is the leader of the republican party? Yea, that doesn't surprise me relative to the bias of this blog. Right now the repubs have no leader. How else could you explain the fact that demos are getting away with the nonsense that they are getting away with without an effective challenge. Frankly, I think that the leader of the demos is Barney Frank. He certainly is your leader as far as the economy is concerned. His track record as overseerer of Fannie and Freddie and his peristent push to award mortgages to people who can't afford them really places him at the forefront of your economic expertise. We all have become beneficiaries of his 'expertise' as well as the effective leadership by the demos of the economic mess that we are in today.

mike, it's not so much that the GOP has no leader...it's that they have no substance. Democrats have some problems, too, but they are in charge--for good reason. Republicans screwed the pooch, as well as the country. It's gonna take some mending.

>>Right now the repubs have no leader. How else could you explain the fact that demos are getting away with the nonsense that they are getting away with without an effective challenge.<<
mike

How else would I explain that Demos are having their way? DEMOCRATS WON MAJORITIES IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE. Oh, btw, they won the presidency too. The SCOTUS IS TIED.

.

Well, if you think that a democratic deficit and debt in the trillions of dollars is not 'screwed the pooch' then you are delusional. Between the bogus climate problem that would have imposed onerous taxes that would sink the economy into a depression to national health insurance that would add unsustainable deficits to an already unsupportable unfunded liabilities of federal debt then you have much in store relative to a return to reality. If you are a moonbat don't look forward to 2010 and 2012.

Jeb Bush is looks like the only Republican with any credibility left. Scary.

Since Cheney-Bush destroyed America in 8 short years, Obama has no choice but to throw money at our problems. I've seen plenty of my friends throw money at the problems caused by their drug addicted, out of control offspring.....in the real world you either throw money at it or shoot it when the shit hits the fan. The only hope we have is to spend our way out of the Bush Depression. You can't Google up another cure that's worked, there are none.

The Arkansas Times could lead the way to Huckabee's final demise by refusing to ever mention his name again. I don't see Lyndon Larouche's name being tossed around the blogs....why Huckabee...an equally failed politician proverbially running running running for office. We can bury Huck by ignoring him...the very worst punishment for a man like him. Huckabee isn't news, hasn't been for some time. Dump his lard ass in the Political Graveyard and be done with him.

Let's start the I LIKE MIKE club. It goes well with Run, Sarah, Run!

Mike is about 90 degrees to where the American public now stands. He thinks living and breathing teabaggers stuff is mainline. So with that in mind

..............I LIKE MIKE !..............

What say you Hog Fans? mike for state rep, mike for Lt. Gov, mike for Congress!
????

Inquiring Minds want to know.

.

Let me reind you that the Congress controls the budget and NOT the President. If you want to blame somone for the financial mess that we are in you might start with who the Constitution holds responsible for the budget and promulgation of regulatory controls----the Congress. I find that most of the people on this blog appear to have NO understanding of the most basic concepts of the Constitution and Federalism.

Explain who pushed banks to extend loans to people who couldn't pay them? Who put down any need to increase the regulation of Fannie and Freddie when regulators recommended such action?

Must have hit a raw never, elwood! I like the Constitution and Federalism. I think that the Founding Fathers had considerably more know how about running government than the idiots we have today. If you want to start a fan club how about one for John Adams or James Madison?

Thank you for the "reind" Mister mike.

Kinda early in the day for you to be drunk enough to begin your rants, eh stranglelove.

.

My name is Mike. I don't know a strangelove. Who is he?

If Bush is responsible for the mess that the government was in when he was President, then I am going to blame Obama for the debt and deficits that we have today. If we go into a depression then he will be responsible for that.

If Bush is responsible for the mess that the economy was in when he was President, then I am going to blame Obama for the debt and deficits that we have today. If we go into a depression then he will be responsible for that.

>>If we go into a depression then he will be responsible for that. <,

We expect no less from the mentally retarded. Any of you ever read "Of Mice and Men?"

It was a depression era story by Steinbeck about two drifters, Lenny, a retard, and his cousin George, somewhat Lenny's caretaker. Lenny became devoted to George because Lenny was drowning and George jumped in and pulled him out. Being the retard, Lenny could not connect that it was George who pushed him into the river.
.

Well, you are the one that blames Bush for all of the problems we have today regardless of who is Constitutionally responsible. Why shouldn't we do likewise and blame Obama. Last time that I checked he was the president. What's wrong with that? I guess it is just ok to blame the president when he is a repub but you can't blame him when he is a demo. Isn't that the ' progressive' way?

I blamed Bush from the very Day the Supreme Court selected him as president after he lost the popular election. I did not put much faith in Gore either but Gore was not as corrupted and brain-damaged as Bush who had a lengthy period of alcoholism and drug abuse.

I blame BHO for continuing Clinton-Bush neoliberalism which is destroying this nation. I did not vote for Obama. I did not vote for Mark Pryor nor will I vote for Blanche Lincoln. IF there is no viable alternative then that part of my ballot will be left blank.

Milton Friedman and his neo Liberalism policies wreaked havoc on Bolivia. He tried it here and
Clinton kept the Ryanist-NeoLiberal Allan Greenspan who allowed markets to inflate and spin out of control until the collapse finally arrived.

Bush was another front man, just like the bait and switch Obama.
.

"The Arkansas Times could lead the way to Huckabee's final demise by refusing to ever mention his name again."

Oh, how I wish!

No, that will never happen. You need Huckabee like you need Bush. You have to have a 'boogie man' to blame. It's the 'progressive' way. I think that Huckabee is boring and really has no significance on the national scene but many members of this blog are obsessed with him.

The Constitution names the winner of the Presidency as the one who receives the most ELECTORAL votes not the most popular votes. You need to get your facts straight. The Supreme Court just followed the Constitution----a rarity in this day and age.

The current economic cluster-boof had very little to do with this tired argument that banks were forced to take on loans. The Countrywide's of the world did not have government-guns to their heads. They did it for greed..plain and simple. I know folks in the banking industry and as a percentage, the number of "forced" loans is puny compared to all loans outstanding: residential, commercial, etc...go ask your local bankers.

Wall Street, feeding DC, turned over rules put in place after the 1929 crash, have been slowly dismantled beginning almost thirty years ago, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush. Aided by many leaders on both sides of the aisle in Congress.
Reasonable regulations and oversight, that worked relatively well for more than 40 years.

It is simply that Huck is not good enough for what we need now...a person that is willing to bring folks together, place religion aside and run at common, acheivable goals.

Paul Harvey-lite's ego is amply stroked, he's probably making good cake and we can only hope that the voices in his head tell him to stay with his current gig..instead of poisening the already foul water.

From my lips to Anne Heche's!

Contrywide 'voluntarily' agreed to abide by the Community Reinvestment Act and far such received awards from Fannie for their significant rate of loans to minority homeowners. Clinton was the President that pushed through legilation to remove the barriers between commercial and investment banks. Even the NYT admitted that the source of the housing failures was rooted in the CRA and the efforts of the Congress and the Clinton administration to coerce banks to make subprime and Alt-A loans. Barney Frank did all that he could to ensure that Fannie and Freddie backed these crazy loans. When the regulators started to stop that process he did everything he could to stop them. He is such an idiot that he is still trying to get them to push loans to bad credit risks. The idiots never learns his lesson.

I did not vote for Obama. I did not vote for Mark Pryor nor will I vote for Blanche Lincoln.

Damn we have/will have the same voting record.

GODDAMNIT!
Did I log in to time warp?
JEEZ! Mike you're SO McCain/Palin 2007.

Give it up man!

GOP...Get Over Palin!

"It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control
...

- The Time Warp Lyrics

I remember doing the TIme Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again...
Let's do the time warp again!

It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

It's so dreamy, oh fantasy free me
So you can't see me, no not at all
In another dimension, with voyeuristic intention
Well-secluded, I see all
With a bit of a mind flip
You're there in the time slip
And nothing can ever be the same
You're spaced out on sensation, like you're under sedation
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil's eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let's do the Time Warp again!"

I never mentioned palin or mccain. You are trying to create a relationship where one does not exist.

"You need to get your facts straight. The Supreme Court just followed the Constitution----"

Perhaps, Mike, you will point out in our Constitution where the central government is empowered to take part in presidential elections, especially its court, other than Congress officially revealing the count result.

"...if you think that a democratic deficit and debt in the trillions of dollars is not 'screwed the pooch' then you are delusional. Between the bogus climate problem that would have imposed onerous taxes that would sink the economy into a depression to national health insurance that would add unsustainable deficits to an already unsupportable unfunded liabilities of federal debt then you have much in store relative to a return to reality. Cue the party of 'NO' GOP (Get Over Pailn) Whiners! talking points...McCain, Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck.

"I am not a quitter. I am a fighter" --Sarah Palin

"...after announcing that she was, uh, quitting before completing the job to which Alaskans elected her. "

Guilty by association!
Mike!

Moon-Bats-'R'-US!?!?!

Who said I was a republican?

I'll point out the role of the Supreme Court in elections if you will point out the place in the Constitution that grants a right to privacy or the right of the government to confiscate private property for private use.

Frank Rich out and out lies in his column. He gives the impression that 71% of Republicans are committed to Palin. 71% of Republicans said that they would consider voting for her in a scenario where no other names are offered. Based on a hypothetical, Rich declares that she "owns" the Republican party.

Someone should also tell Frank that people fish for reasons other than needing to eat. His Upper East Side sensibilities are showing.

Obviously, Frank dances to a DNC tune. No one other than demo hardcores would take him seriously. He wants to push a hidden agenda of the DNC that paints the repubs as being led by the palins or the limbaughs. No serious political scientist takes him seriously.

Joke of the Day...

'FRANK DANCES'

"He wants to push a hidden agenda of the DNC that paints the repubs as being led by the palins or the limbaughs. No serious political scientist takes him seriously."

LOL

Now that's funny...Mike!

I didn't see you rebut my statement only substitute a good argument with a lame dodge.

Ain't No flies on you Mike.

You're not a republican so what's the argument? ain't no flies on me.

You are changing topics, Mike. Did n't think you could answer the question posed to your comment about counting electoral votes. It was predictable.

Yea, about as predictable as your answering my question about right to privacy and the right to confiscate private property for private use.

I'm saying that the DNC is playing you for a fool and you don't have a clue that you are being used. I don't dance to anyone's tune.

I'm going to agree with Prouster here. Rush Limbaugh owns the Republican Party. Sarah Palin is just the madam of the party. The sins of Dick Cheney will do the whole party in very soon. We shouldn't be wasting precious pixels on these bad Americans.

I'm glad that a hard core demo finally decided who was the real leaders of the repubs. Unfortunately, the repubs haven't indicated in any way that these people are their leaders. In fact, if any one thing is consistent are surveys that not any one person fills that slot. The DNC has really pushed that the leaders are palin and libaugh so your hard core here obviously follow in lockstep with them.

Hold on now...Mike!
You're starting to stink up the joint!
...

"A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made."
...

"It defies economy practices and principles that tell ya 'you gotta quit digging that hole when you are in that financial hole."
--Sarah Palin

GOP...Get Over Palin!
PLEASE!!!!

HEY! Maybe Rush/McCain will run in 2012.

Frankly, if obama's poll numbers keep tanking it really won't matter who the repubs run in 2012. Whomever he is will probably run against hillary anyway. She probably will start distancing herself from obama as he continues to tank.

By the way, a word needs to be said for Romney. You really should not dismiss him so lightly in 2012. If we are in serious economic straights---which I think we will be----he might be a stronger consideration for the repubs.

I cannot vote for any man wearing magic underwear......next! Rock the boat all you want...I'm sticking with Barack Obama. Besides....there is no other human being on the planet to line up behind. Barry will be in the White House until January, 2017.......unless heaven forbid a wingnut shoots him of course.

"....there is no other human being on the planet to line up behind."

By the time that his term is near an end you probably will have only a hillary choice. However, I don't think that there is much difference between the two relative to inexperience. Good luck, you are going to need it. It is going to take a happy jimmy carter face to eat the embarassment of this regime.

Romney?

BWA-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!

A Mormon who tithes10% of his wealth (don't bet on it) to the second most ridiculous "religion" after Scientology? (SEE CLICKY?)

A Mormon who tithes 10% of his wealth (don't bet on it) to a religion who "believes" in a fictional planet named Kolub; magic underwear; Jesus and Satan were brothers; converting everybody (Jews, Hindus, atheists) to Mormon after they're dead and against their wills, etc?

Mormons? 2.3% of the population who (with Catholics) spent $83 million in California to disenfranchise GLBT Americans from Constitutional civil equality and impose their "religion" on everybody else?

BWA-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!

Romney is a religious whack-job. Or, if he doesn't really believe that ugly/silly stuff, a hypocrite and liar.

It's past time to feign "respect" for "faith-based" bigots like Romney when they do their utmost to disrespect everybody else and abort the U.S. Constitution based on their cockamamie second-hand religious dogma.

No, Mike. Mitt Romney is dead, politically.

Maybe he's President on Kolub or somewhere in your mind.

Copulating like bunnies on an imaginary planet to repopulate Earth with Mormons.

A randy Thumper on Kolub, as it were.

Watch the video, Mike, my precious, and grow in wisdom.

Oh, yeah. I also LOVE how same-sex equality has been couched as a "religious" thing.

Since when does "religious" choice and affiliation determine Americans' equal civil rights?

Nobody's asking religions to alter their beliefs and practices and exclusions.

Instead, Religions are demanding the Constitution be altered to conform with their dogma.

Really, Razorbabies, it's that simple.

The world, inconveniently, has moved on. Whether in the Middle East (Iranian riots), Indonesia, Europe or here . . . everywhere but the African Continent (for the most part), religious power and influence wanes.

For all Religions' professed Love, it / they behave like any cornered animal instinctively attuned to and terrified of its pending extinction.

Kill the messengers of Truth and Tomorrow.

Hopeless, but then the Past is already Dead, rotting and ineffective . . . evident, given Time.

Don't feed the trolls. Mike=Ron=strangelove=moron.

Oh good lord...I'm so tired of the same ole Republican crap that I've little patience with nonsensical word games...like Mike's tossed out. And, so typical of Republicans to publicly disclaim anything Bush while NEVER admitting any guilt/responsibility for everything Bush.

But you're right about one thing, mike, we'll be critiquing/judging Obama's actions (or lack of) long before you/your ilk own up to your part in the disastrous last eight years. Mostly 'cause we don't need to turn our political leaders into false gods...hell, after President Shit for Brains, we're just thrilled that Obama ain't Bush. We can hold our political leaders accountable for their role in Monkeyboy's horrid presidency/the bad economy...and still recognize where the bulk of the blame resides: With Republicans. And you'll have god Reagan, tax cuts and all the 'isms.'

Just for the record, I enjoyed Strangelove's "ron" persona better than this one.

As a point of personal priviledge/inquiry. Max was he really banned from the blog or is that just another iteration of the reverse-Segretti "dirty tricks," i.e. "I am the victim!" that a fraternity at the University tried unsuccessfully several times in the late 60's by defacing their own candidates posters and claiming "dirty tricks" by their opponents?

Oops! Mea Culpa. Hexagenarian senility of forgetting how long the new blog server takes to respond.

Some sort of visible clue would help.

Mike, I doubt Steinbeck would have referred to Lenny as a retard. Don't you just hate seeing such ignorant running rampant on the web?
