Suspend cash for clunkers?
Has instant success already overwhelmed the program? I'll note that Germany extended its similar program becase of its popularity. But that means more federal spending.

One billion dollars is a drop in the bucket of our current federal budget.
That's less than one days spending in Iraq.
When the car dealers and financiers start raising hell they will jump start it.

CatmanDo (i like that name by the way), maybe you could see if the salty parrot ? or whatever the mayor's latest floating toy was called, is available to tow your lincoln towncar to germany. I dont expect its doing anything else, although I cant say as to how I keep up with it personally.
isnt this program going to encourage a lot of people to spend way more money on a car than they would have ordinarily? nobody really needs a brand new car. the cash for your clunker wont make all THAT many payments on a new car.

This is crazy. The government is terminating a program because it has been successful. As eLwood pointed out, this is "a drop in the bucket of our current federal budget." The improvement in fuel efficiency and air quality has long-term health and economic benefits for this country. This could be more effective than the oil companies' drill-drill-drill short term solution mentality. Oops, now I understand why it's being cut. Nevermind .....
