That's no lady, etc.
Campaign mailer today from U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln:
The national Republicans have put a target on my back and I expect one of the toughest campaigns in my life. But I can assure you that if they want a fight, I plan on giving them a fight in my own ladylike way.
FULL LINCOLN SOLICITATION
The national Republicans have put a target on my back and I expect one of the toughest campaigns in my life. But I can assure you that if they want a fight, I plan on giving them a fight in my own ladylike way.
But I need your help to do it. We are approaching the September 30 fundraising deadline and we are trying to reach 150 new online donors in the next 5 days. Will you be one of them? Your contribution--even $5--will show our critics that we won't back down.

In its 184-year history, the Senate Agriculture Committee had not been chaired by a Senator from Arkansas -- until September 9, 2009 the day I was honored by the confidence of my colleagues to serve in this position. It makes me the first Arkansan AND the first women to chair the committee.
Today, one in every six Arkansas jobs is filled by the agriculture sector. Having grown up in a seventh generation Arkansas farm family in Phillips County, I have always cherished our natural state's farm heritage and rural lifestyle. I know that my Dad, Jerdi Lambert, a lifetime farmer and conservationist would be so proud.
And he would be proud of the campaign that we are running together. I know that the National Republicans are going to do whatever they can to defeat me. You can help me be ready for that fight by making a contribution today. Even a gift as little as $5 can make a huge difference.

As my responsibilities grow in the Senate, I plan to fight even harder for Arkansas. My top priorities will always remain job creation for Arkansans, improving our health care system and getting America's economy back on track. And we've got to do it all while cutting back on government spending.
We have a long, tough fight ahead of us. But, standing together, I know we can do it.
With Arkansas pride,

Sad thing is, at this point she's the best offer we've gotten. And yes, I'm choking on that statement.

"My top priorities will always remain job creation for Arkansans, improving our health care system and getting America's economy back on track."
She doesn't talk about education and as we all know the places in Arkansas that mostly depend on agriculture are the ones with the poorest schools. Is this because agriculture land has never paid its share of taxes to support the local school systems. She says she cherishes the rural lifestyle but which part? The part of the government funded farmer or the dirt poor or minimum wage earners that live in these declining communities. Has Blanche ever done anything to bring these impoverished blacks or whites any hope or funding that even matches her farmer funding?
People complain about government run health care but what about government sponsored/funded agriculture?
She claims the National Republicans are against her but where does she get her funding? For this election cycle so far 60% of her contributions are coming from outside of Arkansas. According to Open Secrets she has over $3.2 million in cash on hand as of June 30, 2009 and she is out begging for money.

Suddenly she's decided to fight Republicans? Maybe she should fight them on the Employee Free Choice Act (on which she cuddles up with them) or the public option in the healthcare reform plan (against which she's marching with them) or the estate tax (which she's chomping at the bit with other Republicans to kill). How can she expect us to help her fight against Republicans when all she does is weaken the Democratic majority in the Senate? The only time she fights a Republican is when one wants her seat. The rest of the time, she might as well be one of them.

"But, standing together, I know we can do it. With Arkansas pride."
Speaking of pride, I SO wish Blanche would take some in her appearance. She often looks like a refugee from the Great Depression, circa 1930. A sexy hairdo, some lipstick, and a 21st century wardrobe would do wonders. Donna Terrell, are you out there, honey? How about you, Miss Norma? If either of you hip, fashionable ladies is reading this, please give our senior senator a call and do whatever you can to help. Her Little Rock number is 375-2993. Thank yew.

Wouldn't it be nice if the national Democrats would put a target on her back?

She doesn't need to worry about Republicans. She needs to worry about all the Democrats who'll be sitting home because her every move -- from the estate tax to health care -- is driven by big business, not the working person, the single mom, the stressed out father, the sick child.

USsphinx and Teleplayer summed it up pretty well. Blanche's Miss Jane Hathaway routine has grown old. It's so easy to criticize her appearance and accent.....I must stop, because that part of her isn't what's killing America, it's her voting record. These empty words about fighting Republicans....they're just sad. And even sadder is the fact that Blanche thinks we're dumb enough to buy it. Saddest of all is that the majority of Arkansas voters are uninformed voters who will vote for Blanche next year and never think about why?
If her name was Blanche Schwartz she probably wouldn't have ever got elected in the first place. But no doubt Arkansas voters without a clue saw the name Lincoln and thought....hey...I've heard that name before! Worked the same for Pryor, though I admit I voted for Mark the first time by stupidly gifting him with his fathers attributes......stupid me! And yes, I'm noticing that Mark Pryor is hiding when it comes to his upcoming vote on health care reform. Someone go flush him out of the C Street House and ask him how he's going to help Obama out.......fat chance.
Here's how to dump Blanche next year! Get out there and comb the Arkansas phone books until you find a real Democrat named George Washington! Doesn't matter if he can read or write, his name will put him over the top with dumbass Arkansas voters. The only skill ole George will need is the ability to look up and see how other Democrats in Congress are voting on a bill. 6 years of that kind of loyalty to the Democratic Party will be enough to get us through this tough spot and then we can dump him for a smart independent woman able to read and understand the job description of a US Senator. So fan out and find that George Washington and let's free Blanche to lobby for Big Business 24-7, but out of our US Senate office! GW 2010!

If only liberals were willing to kill and bankrupt entire segments of our fellow Americans.. if only liberals were willing to oppress 90 percent of American workers. If only liberals were willing to stick a smokestack over everyones property. If only liberals were willing to evade and distort facts at all costs.
If only liberals were willing to use the name of God or Jesus or Wal Mart or Goldman Sachs to justify torture, needless wars.. and the looting of the peoples treasure. If only liberals dreamed of the day when Plantation overlords who pay no tax while exploiting labor and raping the lands were the perfect model for a 21st century America or world.
Then liberals could stand with Blanche.. because she seems so nice and polite in person.
Multiple stabs in the back are still an attack, even if the person doing it has nice southern manners. Blanche may be nice, but her votes are downright indecent and dangerous.
Stand with Blanche? Sorry hon, we can't afford it.

Durango --
I've long pondered the question of Sen. Lincoln's image -- ever since her office first contacted me.
My thinking at clicky.

Dear Blanche,
I hope you and your minions listen very carefully for the sound of me opening my wallet or checkbook. You and they will be treated to a symphony of crickets and maybe an occasional bobwhite or whippoorwill, although they are becoming increasingly rare in Arkansas.
Feral cats, I understand are the cause of declining whippoorwill transients and corporate farming diminution of the bobwhite favored ecotones.
But I digress, Blanche, go see your corporate buddies and bipartisan Republicans for your contributions, I'm sure they will offer shekels to maintain one of their loyalists in office. Your actions and votes have burnt your bridges with this Democrat. I prefer to support and vote for a candidate who represents me not the interest of rich legal constructs.
I wouldn't mention your recent elevation to agriculture chair that much either. It reminds us of the length of your tenure in DC. You know that your constituents passed state term limits in Arkansas and term limits for our federal representatives also. However, the Supreme Court declared the federal term limits unconstitutional without a U.S. Constitutional amendment saving your position. So were i you, I would soft pedal that longevity benefit or maybe your constituents will remember we can enforce term limits at the polls in November of next year. The corporate farmers and agribusinesses are not as many votes as the farmers who have had to find alternate careers during your tenure and representation.
Enjoy the crickets!

Ms. Blanche Lincoln I hope your campaign goes down in ashes and flames. Who cares if a Republican beats you?? You are a Republican too. I don't care if you call yourself a duck. You are what you are and the people of your district have suffered because of your deaf ear and blind eye. You are just as useful, thoughtful and helpful as any garden variety Republican. If you loose to anybody, it is because you are damn near hated. I know, I made calls for the DNC. People actually hate you. An experience Mr. Ross is about to receive as well, I'm sure.
The nicest thing anyone has ever called you Ms. Lincoln in my presence or on the phone is SELL OUT. And I can not say the others, not because I think of you as a lady. I however am.
