Lord, how the money rolls in

There'll be a lot written today about campaign finances since today is a quarterly deadline for financial reports. No word yet on what the Lord has filed on further support for Jim Holt's candidacy for U.S. Senate. But, He's reportedly told many that Holt should run. Amen to that.

The Washington Post, primed by the national Republican campaign operation, highlights the $130,000 Tim Griffin has raised for the Republican primary for 2nd District Congress. The Post hasn't heard Griffin might have a tough primary fight before he gets to U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder. In a "good, bad and ugly" report, The Fix puts in the "ugly" category:

Vic Snyder: The Arkansas Democratic congressman collected a total of $0 in the past three months. Now, Snyder never raises money in an off year and has consistently won reelection despite that stance. But, he has also never faced someone like former U.S. attorney Tim Griffin (R) before. Griffin is very well connected in Washington and raised $130,000 in just 10 days of active cash collecting.

Two words, with relevance to both men and this race: Bud Cummins. Somebody else can explain it to The Fix.

More campaign fodder as it strikes our fancy.

Tim Griffin obviously has much better contacts in Washington than in Arkansas. He probably thinks that press like this actually means something.

In fairness, Max, if that goofy polling firm hadn't been publishing weekly polls showing Vic up 17 points up to within 48-72 hours of an election that would come down to two points or less, Bud would have probably raised enough money to fund mail, media and GOTV to put him over the top. The lesson of Bud is that 2CD is "winnable". The lesson of Phil Wyrick is that you won't beat Vic with political "consultants". The lesson of Bob Thomas is that the national Republican Party is more interested in supporting their golden child than a credible candidate. Hopefully when Tim Griffin loses his primary the NRCC will recognize that if Tim was so strong then the candidate who beat him (predicting Scott Wallace) should be stronger.

The Media should be elated over the big bucks raised since they wind up with the lion's share of it. That's why they start the electioneering speculations one month after elections have settled the most recent election.

I still contend the UK has the proper perspective on election campaigning.

Tim "the Cage Man" Griffin

Hmmm - let me think ...the guy that worshiped at the feet of Karl Rove ...responsible for denying 10's of 1,000's of African American voters their right to vote in Florida in 2000 - the guy that denyed this country's voters their President (Al Gore) wants to be the Congressman for the 2nd Congessional District of Arkansas.

Isn't Pulaski County in the 2nd?

Seems to be a steady stream of Republican candidates that look at the results in the Presidential races and simply assume they can win ... think again. The only Republican in recent history who could of wrestled away a Constitutional seat would of been the revered Win Rockefeller ...and Holt or Griffin are no Rockefellers.

Oh, and just in case the Griffin campaign is listening ... the Sec of State is a Democrat and every single county clerk in the 2nd CD is a D - it'll be a little harder to steal a win, without the help of your friends. Sure there will be plenty of questionable tactics ...but Arkansawers like honesty and integrity in their candidates ...just ask a couple of other Tim's - they could share.

Blanche should be running scared.

Vic, on the other hand, will win reelection handily. Enjoy your time with Betsy and the kids, Vic. You've earned it.

Now I'm getting kind of OCD. What was the name of that polling firm, something like Sygnis?

TimmyG's reputation is too sullied by the Bud Cummins fiasco. Vic wins re-election handily unless Bud Cummins himself runs against Vic again, or some never-heard-from Republican comes into the picture that is free from the stench of republican death/immorality.

I like Bud, and would vote for him again. Vic's a great guy too, I just like Bud's politics better. I wish most voters could know the candidates better, on a personal level. It might change how we vote. And we should always be mindful of the friends we keep. Karl Rove isn't on my speed dial like it was for TimmyG.

A paper published by a think tank last month warned that Sen. Blanche Lincoln's ascendancy to the Agriculture Committee chairmanship was a bad omen for passage of climate-change legislation in 2010 due to her close ties to agricultural producers and processors seen as major contributors of greenhouse gases. /more/
