Vets for clean air
Does it seem to you that there's been a noticeable rise in grassroots activism from all points on the political compass? It does to me.
Next week, a veterans group promoting legislation to promote cleaner wasy of generating power -- and specifically seeking votes from our U.S. senators -- will be making stops in Arkansas.
I presume it's just a matter of time before the coal companies and power companies pushing to beat clean air legislation will organize a veterans group to travel for them.
NEWS RELEASE
Arkansas—Military veterans will embark on a 21-state bus tour to talk to citizens and local community leaders about the dangers of climate change and its threat to national security. The tour will make stops in Arkansas on October 12th and 13th.
The tour is sponsored by Operation Free, a coalition of veterans and national security groups working together to raise public awareness about national security threats posed by climate change and the importance of building a clean energy economy that is not tied to fossil fuels.
In conjunction with the tour, the veterans group VoteVets.org is
running a heavy buy of radio ads in Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and
Little Rock featuring a local veteran urging Senators Lincoln and
Pryor to support clean energy legislation in Congress.
Operation Free and its members are encouraging Congress to pass energy legislation that cuts carbon pollution, develops clean energy
incentives, and puts America in control of its energy future.

Comments
I wonder where our very own former city attorney and new PSC guy, Paul Suskie will come down on this issue? He obviously has clout in the military since he was able to cut his tour of duty in half and come home early somehow while the rest of our troops have to fulfill their obligations. Coal is dirty no matter how they spin it. Period.
