Just not interested

While Blanche Lincoln's vulnerability in the 2010 Senate election has been covered like the dew in the press, most of Arkansas isn't listening, the University of Arkansas's 2009 Arkansas Poll, released today, says.

"While a few of us are making a lot of noise already about the 2010 U.S. Senate contest, the reality is that the vast majority of Arkansans are not yet paying attention," a UA press release quotes political science professor and poll director Janine Parry as saying.

How vast is that majority? Fully 75 percent of Arkansans aren't following the challenge to Lincoln or aren't paying too much attention to it, the 11th annual poll says.

Other details from the poll:

-More of those polled would vote for a Democrat (41 percent) over a Republican (36 percent).

-Nearly half of Arkansans -- 48 percent -- oppose a public option as a way to reform health care. But 56 percent of uninsured Arkansans support the public option.

-Fifty-nine percent of Arkansans believe the death penalty provides a pyschological benefit to victim families.

-Sixty-nine percent believe that the death penalty costs the state less than a life without parole. Psychology professor Denise Beike, who contributed the questions about the death penalty to the poll, said multiple studies have shown the opposite is true, because of the cost of court appeals.

One finding of the 2008 Arkansas poll  was way off. While the poll found that 55 percent of Arkansans opposed Initiated Act 1, which makes it unlawful for gay couples (and other unmarried couples) to act as foster parents, 57 percent of Arkansans voted in favor of the act.

". . 75 percent of Arkansans aren't following . . . Lincoln or . . . paying too much attention . . ."

Surely, this comes as no surprise to most people on this blog. Just one of the reasons why she's likely to be reelected. Name recognition, lotsa dough, yadda yadda. It will take a Halter type to knock her off. Johnson can't do it.

I dunno, Durango. I'm inclined to put myself in that category, even though I'm no longer a Lincoln supporter in any way, shape or form. First of all, it's still early for me, and second, I'm waiting for that candidate who has more promise than she has to represent my views. Sadly, I see no one out there right now. Even more sadly, I'm not sure that better candidate will appear. (Right now, I believe I'd take a Monroe Schwarzlose.)
So will I vote for her again? Yeah, if the current crop of challengers is all we end up with.
Ringing endorsement, wouldn't you say?

75 percent aren't paying attention. No doubt.

Does anyone know off the top of their head about what percentage of folks actually vote in a mid term AR election?

And as I pointed out in the NY 23 thread... as long as there is no decent challenger.... we all lose. But that doesn't mean Lincoln can or should motivate any sort of base turnout for her horrific record.

99.998% of Arkansans are stupid. The rest read this blog.

America isn't listening. No wait...my Fox News watching friends prove that a lot of people are listening but very few are thinking. That's why when I get into a political argument with a wingnut friend all I hear are Fox News sound bites. The leaders of the Republican Cult figured out a long time ago a catchy phrase gets more votes than Nobel Prize level explanations.

Sorry, Doi, I'll never vote for Blanche Lincoln ever again no matter if she gives a kidney to a poor sick black child. She was a Bush enabler for 8 years and an obstructionist since Obama took office. I am much happier with the idea of sending a bad Republican to DC than continuing on with our bad Democrat. You don't reward people who double cross ya no matter which party they pretend to belong to.

I think Arkansans pay less attention partly because we have to work harder to survive. Low wages and extra jobs sorta eat into your editorial reading time. Buying Chinese made crap at Wal-Mart is more fun than following Blanche's efforts to reduce the Estate Tax. People eating bugs on an island for money is great entertainment while you clean your gun......don't have to think, ya know. And here we are with 5 Blue Cross Democrats and 1 Automatic-Republican representing the people of Arkansas in DC.

One way Blanche could get more votes is to apply a fake beard and buy a stovepipe hat. That would pull in the really stupid voters who suspect Blanche is the 16th President or one of his kin. Since no one is listening to her opponents.....I have no idea what they can do to get themselves some attention. Sitting cross-legged in an intersection dousing oneself with gasoline and lighting a match worked for Buddhist monks during the Vietnam War, but it makes going to the post-election victory party a real bitch for the burnee.

I'd like to see Bill Halter enter the race....that's what I'd really like.

Sorry, DBI, but around here, a bit farther south than you are, that stovepipe hat and fake beard would get Blanche shot. Damn fast, too, especially if she ventures out into the boonies. STILL hear about the War of Northern Aggression.
But you're right about Bill Halter maybe getting a more favorable nod. Er, well, better than Blanche I should say, 'cause hubby will remind me quickly of my comment about the guy after meeting him down Warren way a while back. Of course, that coulda been because he was holding up the line to get to the iced tea -- it was HOT that day. Anyway, guess politics is making the best of bad choices, huh?

Iron beat me to it...

As the death penalty gets more and more expensive we are reminded of the tremendous cost of
religious beliefs:
"Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, life for life."

The old, old law of retribution. It was around long before the Jews claimed it as their own. Nice to see that Arkies find comfort in an ancient tale.

There is an option in the Democratic primary and it's my candidacy.

I am willing to step up and speak out for Public Option in Health Care Reform. In fact, I am more supportive of Senator Ron Wyden's plan, which includes Preventitive Health Care. The reason why is it's a deficit neutral plan according to the C.B.O.

Also, I am speaking out for the Employee Free Choice Act. Its my firm belief that when workers are able to unionize, they have the tools and voice to be equalized at the bargaining table with management. And thanks to the labor movement we have the 40 hour work week as well as Child Labor Laws and a minimum wage. I personally want to see us step up to a Living Wage Work Law.

In addition, as someone in the GLBT Community, I personally live a 2nd class citizen life. I know the hassles and the laws that take away my civil rights, and the frustration.

Lt. Governor Bill Halter has had a chance to jump into the race. We have been to this rodeo before. He polls, floats his name, and doesn't enter. Last time he did that to Senator Mark Pryor, and I was told when I considered a primary challenge, that he was entering the race. In the end, no one stepped up except Rebekah Kennedy of the Green Party.

The difference is this....I am willing to stand up and speak out. Check out my webpage : http://www.PrittForArkansas.com/ and give my candidacy a chance. If you want to send Senator Lincoln and the Washington Insiders a message....my candidacy gives you that opportunity. You also have the chance to elect a Senator who doesn't just campaign as a Democrat but who votes like a Democrat.

Maybe Halter can get more than 8 votes.

At least I stepped up and ran in that race, instead of just polling and making noise about running in that race. And yes, I got 8 votes. So what?

Abraham Lincoln lost thirteen races before he was elected President. Not winning or doing well in one political race does not mean you won't be successful in another.

Another modern point....Barack Obama was smashed in a landslide for U.S. Congress in 2000 but won a U.S. Senate seat in 2004.

Uncommon Sense you are making Illogical Sense!

Here's a good example of the thinking process of the 75%. Clik.

They're going to have him take over for Beck when ill or on vacation to give him more of a new wave edge to his image.

while everyone else is measuring canidate potential in terms of warchests-I SEE THE OPRESS TRYING TO START A HORSE RACE AND GENERATE AD SALES. LIKE SNOWFALL IN OCT I CANT REMEMBER WHEN A RACE STARTED THIS EARLY.MONEY COMES AND GOES-IDEAS LIVE FOREVER- LETS SEE SOME IDEAS SO WE Can contrast our contenders. i interested in criticing the options not how smart / dumb arkies are r for that matter bloggers. you know the candidates have opinions yet i read only a few where reporter asks candidate. Or - is the editor in chief starvining out candidates to generate ad sales?
